Frankly, the record label probably thought that it won't do much for the album so why waste money on video or any further promotion. It's not like Audience With brought back the album the top 10 or something like that, or did anything major for the existing singles.

It’s odd, we got 5 videos from Golden and Disco. I don’t see why they’d give up on Tension now?

Also stick these vinyls on Amazon and sell more.

BMG would rather sit on them in the warehouse for years like the Golden cassettes rather than lose margin by selling via Amazon

All this is purely my hypothesis:

Maybe they came to terms that regardless of promo or budget, Kylie always has a solid fanbase that will buy her album (multiple copies, even) the 1st week, guarantee her at least 40K sales and a UK #1 album; and that having a super hit single or releasing 5 singles/videos will at most, have a minimal incremental impact on the album sales. So, they thought what's the point in spending extra money and time for a 3rd, 4th, 5th single with videos and all when the rewards will be incremental, at best?

We Kylie fans go "the ____ label totally screwed up this release" for a lot of single or album when it doesn't meet our lofty expectations. But the reality is, in a younger arena of Taylor's and Olivia's, Kylie isn't that hot anymore. She'll sell respectable front-loaded amounts to her core fanbase but as we saw, even with a viral Padam Padam, there wasn't much Tension could do. I'm not even comparing it to previous album sales as I'm cognizant that album sales have fallen. I'm just saying the chart run was less than flattering for all the buzz.

For example - a Taylor or an Olivia, or even an older act like Arctic Monkeys would've easily re-entered the UK top 10 or 20 on the back of Audience With. Kylie didn't. And the fanbase found some excuse to justify why it didn't (late time slot, or choice or songs, or _____).

I do get your points and they do make sense as Kylie isnt a big player anymore in the overall market, for a legacy acts she still does pretty well which we have to be thankful for. I think for me, with the singles, if releasing a single i feel release it properly or dont bother at all, i know padam padam was the totally unexpected hit and benefited greatly from a social buzz that caught on which benefited the song greatly.

Tension (the single) didn't have all that but because of how well it was handled it helped it make the top 20.

I think if they coped the same formula for hold on to now it would have achieved a much higher chart peak but had it happened it probably wouldn't have made any difference to album sales unless the press in someway went with a story saying kylie bags her 3rd top 40 of the year might have helped build a bit of a buzz that the album would benefit from.

I think Tension lost out on lack of promo from Kylie as she didn't do the usual promotional trail she would do for an album and on some or the promo she did she didnt perform but had it happened its likely the album would still be borderline gold right now rather than been 15-20k away.

Edited by Padamic Tension

It’s just odd because they gave the singles from Golden and Disco better treatment only for them to limp into the top 75 for a week or 2 (if they’re lucky), Tension singles meanwhile proved Kylie can still get top 20 and top 10 hits and they suddenly decided it doesn’t matter??

I think the main issue is Kylie isn’t available to promote the singles due to her vegas commitments. Therefore, maybe BMG don’t feel there is any point doing a video if there’s not going to be much promotion. The whole strategy has been weird for this album and that’s partly why it hasn’t done as well as we all hoped. I also think it might be the end of the era now due to extension mixes coming out which only surfaced for disco at the end of the album campaign.

I agree kylies lack of availability to promote has hindered things, padam padam could have probably done slightly better in the UK had Kylie been more available to push it.

I see HOTN taken off the Radio 2 playlist.

What a strange release. Comeplete and utter mess. Thank god that wasn't what they did with Padam Padam.

It’s like they done a step by step guide of how not to handle a release.

It’s more frustrating after they done such a good job with PP and Tension.

HOTN only had one decent week of radio 2 plays, the rest of the time on the AList was lost amongst the Christmas releases. So the only thing really pushing any physical album sales was the ITV promo.

Ideally it would have had this week too and she should have performed HOTN on SCD, Royal Variety or pre recorded it for use on a chat show. To be fair I think they did send it to radio early November but radio 2 didn’t add it for three weeks but instead played it sporadically.

Such a botch-up! :( Hold On To Now is a highlight of her BMG years for me, so it’s a huge shame that it’s been very mishandled. In theory this was an album-selling kind of song and it hasn’t really had the opportunity to make that happen. I know there’s the Audience With performance, but it would have been perfect to perform it on a chat show. And of course actually have a music video.

In a way it feels weird to have 3 physical formats of it, when it barely feels like it’s been a single!

They really should’ve just waited until January to give it a push

Honestly this, they’ve treated it as a buzz/promo single yet given 3 physicals.

It’s probably one of the poorest single releases handling I’ve seen, they couldn’t have butchered it more if they tried.

I’m glad we have the physicals and it made the Top 100 thanks to HH, but for one of Kylie’s supposedly favourite songs and at one point was going to be the lead they’ve treated it like the release of a newly discovered 1993 demo b-side.

I think it was a major mistake not releasing HOTN as the follow up to Padam Padam. Like you say, it’s such a huge anthem and really disappointing they didn’t push the song a lot more. Even though she sang it on the audience show, she never mentioned it was even her current single and there’s been no video or decent remixes released. I didn’t like that trance remix at all. I’m sure they could have done a much better club mix.

Any talk about releasing the audience with live version on streaming?

No, I think it would’ve happened by now (although it wouldn’t have much impact on its own and the kind of thing that should be released to coincide with physicals etc for a chart boost).

If actually say that despite Padam being a hit is probably the most mishandled BMG Kylie album so far.

Agree with this, I wonder if the major restructuring/redundancies and local international offices closing have wiped out some of the talent and decision makers at BMG and its showing with subpar results for the likes of Rick Astley, Kylie etc., who have a history of brilliantly handled releases up until this point.
