Posted August 27, 20231 yr Sorry if this has been done before, Rob always says I need to start new threads here, so here’s one that may catch on. I want each person to nominate a one hit wonder that they enjoyed from the 21st century, and by “one hit wonder” that means only one hit single that charted inside the UK Top 40 Singles Chart and no other hits since. You can only nominate one song and then someone else has to have a turn to nominate before you can post another. Go! ========================================= I decided I will create a running list of songs submitted in this thread and keep this updated here; ALMA – Chasing Highs {#18, 2017} (nominated by awardinary) Backyard Dog – Baddest Ruffest {#15, 2001} (nominated by Hadji) Charlie Brown – On My Way {#7, 2013} (nominated by awardinary) Daisy Dares You feat. August 27, 20231 yr Little Jackie - The World Should Revolve Around Me _36w_iyrX2Q Was so surprised this only peaked at #14 and was just a fleeting top 40 hit :( it’s an absolute banger and such a joyous, Summery song!
August 27, 20231 yr Author Daniel Powter – Bad Day gH476CxJxfg A huge #2 hit in 2005 and then a flop single that meant he was never heard of again.
August 28, 20231 yr Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know has to be one of the biggest? hx3u9ij4gPk?si=mwrtKbmJu0X9ogU7 Prefer this slightly beefier radio edit! Edit: Roba cracking the whip I see ;)
August 28, 20231 yr Daniel Powter – Bad Day A huge #2 hit in 2005 and then a flop single that meant he was never heard of again. He did grab a plane but sadly it went home in 2008 :( 5E4j_n17cTI?si=3GO4S1f6E8QjjnDR
August 28, 20231 yr Daniel Powter – Bad Day A huge #2 hit in 2005 and then a flop single that meant he was never heard of again. Was the follow up called Free Loop? I think I liked that one more. It became partially chart ineligible because the B-Side ended up being Bad Day. I think.
August 28, 20231 yr I'm sure Jon and Jade will approve of this pick from me ;) HT42R4WxEKs?si=qnPRKtX7s67YM8W7
August 28, 20231 yr Author If it's a collaboration, then should all acts also have a one-hit wonder status? I guess if they collaborated and that was their only chart hit then I guess so. Depends on the song I would say.
August 28, 20231 yr Author Sam Sparro – Black & Gold, a UK #2 single from 2008 with no other Top 40 hits after. eHuebHTD-lY?si=p-HAbBsnyDmLPjIL
August 28, 20231 yr Hardwell (feat. Matthew Koma) - Dare You clRjbYa4UWQ It peaked at #18 in January 2014, but only spent 3 weeks at top 100. Hadn't discovered Official Charts back then, so I didn't even know how it was even possible debuting that high. Matthew Koma is clearly not a 1hw because he had the Cannonball and Wasted.
August 28, 20231 yr SlU5Qk9w0u4 Iconic. Masterpiece. Legendary. No one has ever topped this timeless bop.
August 28, 20231 yr I was today years old when I found out that Daniel Powter only had one top 40 hit! I could have SWORN 'Free Loop' got to like #18 or something and had a swift exit!! Hellogoodbye  What an almighty BANGER! One of the most underrated songs of all time <3 Daisy Dares You came to my mind too, Sam! What a bop! That Gotye song still remains HIDEOUS. I cannot fathom for the life of me, HOW on EARTH it's as popular as it was/is! Vile. :puke: Another one from myself: Iglu & Hartly - In This City heLnZ4uK8sE One of those songs that just immediately reminds me of Summer & Sunshine!
August 28, 20231 yr From 2015 but was her only top 15 hit here in early 2016 of course for Rob Schneider's daughter :P 0uLI6BnVh6w?si=_GMbGLRjdfGgDr79
August 28, 20231 yr Maria Lawson - Sleepwalking qQx83sHLnTQ She was in the same series of X Factor as Shayne, so I'm not sure she'd have won (even though I preferred her slightly!) but she was the OG "shock early exit" of that show! She came into the charts with this track in 2006. A peak of #20 and 3 weeks top 75. It's really stunning and is such an underrated GEM! It's actually aged WONDERFULLY!
August 28, 20231 yr There’s this dance hit from 2003. They had no other top 40 hits after this vbDO2ZN9RQk
