I’m unsure but is Kenya stalling? I expected bigger daily increases, especially with Greedy and Prada continuing to gain.

The idea of Ed genuinely losing popularity seems too good to be true, I can't help but think if he released another standard pandering to radio song/album and pushed it he'd be in no worse a position than he was previously.
How dare he try and be successful at his job :P

What I hate about the Sheeran fanatics is that they don’t actually read your posts, they just decide what you said and then attempt to mock you for saying something you didn’t.

I didn’t say there was necessarily anything wrong with Ed being a chameleon, I just simply stated that that’s what he is. If success and adoration is all he’s after, it’s brilliant and he’s done very well with it. But to me he comes across far from authentic and I can’t invest in an artist like that. Many artists garner this success whilst caring about their music and others struggle whilst remaining true to themselves. But Ed I feel is just that narcissistic that he only really cares about the way he is perceived.

You basically critising him for trying to stay successful in the music industry which is essentially his job

I’m not though. I’m telling it as I see it. He can do what he wants but it isn’t for me.

But I guess I could turn this around and say that what you’re suggesting is that artists less successful aren’t trying hard enough at their jobs. That Ed somehow deserves his success more than others.

Anywho, trying to be successful at your job can be subjective. Perhaps artists who feel more accomplished artistically feel more successful in their job than someone who sold out to get ahead. This is the same in any workplace.

I can see Ed starting to do a lot of collabs he wouldn’t have done before after this album.

Ed clawed and scratched his way to get to the point he could releases plus so maybe he does deserve it, fair play to him to then turn that into a successful 12 year plus career,

All artists that put the work in deserve there success twist the narrative all you want

Funny thing with Ed is, that he implies that he is "on a break" and doesn't release anything bla bla and fast forward two months we have an album. My favourite was when he stated last November that he will be "quiet until 2023 "

Yeah and I'm sure before this album came out he said he was going to take a long break. Yet in a recent interview he confirmed he has a big pop recorded ready to go!

I’m not the one who’s been twisting the narrative though. You’ve only been selectively reading my posts so you can have a dig. All I’ve been doing is explaining that Ed is probably underperforming by his own design. For some reason you decided to mock my initial post and imply that what I said was ridiculous, possibly because you’re thin skinned to criticism of Ed.

He been natural declining since divide every single album has performed worse than the previous so I wouldnt exactly call it underperforming rather than continuing the trend

Taylor aside there's not a huge amount of artists that have their most successful eras 12 plus years into their career

I think he has lost popularity genuinely. The signs have been there for years now. I think he probably will get big hits again but probably from collabs. Or he might have a comeback in a few years like a lot of pop stars do. But I think his success will continue to decline for now.

Nsync not even top 200???
Tbf about this… it’s really hard to find as it doesn’t seem to appear on their page, Justin’s page or TROLLS (at least not on Apple Music - I had to type the name of the song in! - idk why they do this for soundtrack songs. Iirc ‘Dance the Night’ by Dua had the same problem at least initially. Not showing on her artist page)

It’s a bop though. So I’m hoping it can climb the closer the TROLLS movie gets released.

It's because it's only available as an instant grat via the compilation (also the case for Dance the Night), which is obviously not an NSYNC artist release. On Spotify they don't have instant grats so it shows up on their page as a single like any other release.

Ed really fumbled the bag! He should’ve went the Adele route and disappeared for a while after =, and especially after the underperformance of –, but he’s just went straight back to it. It’s like he’s trying to recreate Taylor’s Lover to folklore career turnaround, but he’s just fell flat on his face.

Ed's album has fallen flat because it was announced only a few weeks ago and has no singles. His fanbase is the general public, who only learn about new music from the radio. His physical sales might be good.

folklore was announced with a few hours notice :kink: I agree that his hardcore fanbase is actually pretty small, but I don’t think it’s much of a justification for the lack of interest in his new music. You could say the same about someone like Katy Perry - of course with the right feature or song she could have a huge hit again but until then you can only judge their popularity based on how well their last album did.

"=", released in 2021, spawned at least 5 big hits, including "Shivers" and "Bad Habits”. He has always been an easy target for critics because he is so ordinary and has no hardcore fanbase to defend him, but I don't think it's true that he's less popular than he was two years ago. He's proven that he can make big pop hits, but I simply don't think any of the songs from his recent album “-“ had the same radio appeal or chart potential as his previous ones.

I think if he surprise released an album in 2021 he would’ve charted a lot more than 4 songs in the top 200! Of course that’s all speculation. If Ed has to trend chase and make the most radio-friendly pop to generate any interest in his projects nowadays what does that say about him and his position in the music industry?

I'd like to think it's his incessant releases ever since Divide that have come round to bite him in the arse this time but those streaming totals that Bjork posted do actually paint a picture of a steady natural decline from dizzying heights so I think a bit of general career decline is part of the picture too.

He's already claimed in an interview that his next one will be a "big pop album" which I assume will come with every trick in the book thrown at it so we'll see how that does. If it only does marginally better than this one then I think his days of guaranteed success are numbered.
