Mitski #4 in albums :o <3
'Swan Song' deserved this chart run more and I will die on that hill

Liking 'Water' a bit more than both of Tyla's BJSC entries I think - not blowing me away but sounds very nice, she does have a lovely voice, may well be a grower.

Speaking of afrobeats growers, 'City Boys' is sounding better than I remember - tbf I did think it was good on first listen but I thought (accurately) that I'd forget how it goes pretty quickly, maybe just need to drill it into my head more. I do really wish 'Big 7' had the success this has had though, that's by far my favourite of the charting songs from this era.

Wow at Mitski hanging on as high as #4! I definitely thought she had missed out when 'SOUR' was at #5 (!) so that was a nice surprise - I haven't heard anything from this new album yet but I rather enjoyed her last album (although I know the new one is quite different sounding so not sure what to expect) so it's nice to see her reaching new heights.

Congrats to Busted finally picking up a #1 album  they have some bops I cannot lie ~ ('Year 3000' getting a clip on the chart show :cheeseblock:) Intrigued to see how close it ended up being.

Biography

Whether she’s penning defiantly joyous singles like “I Love It” or exploring her darker side, Charli XCX is proof that you don’t need to stay in one lane to become a massive success. Born Charlotte Aitchison in 1992 in Cambridge, England, to Scottish and Gujarati Indian parents, Charli took up songwriting at 14, lifting her stage name from her instant messenger handle. On the strength of her MySpace uploads and performances at London raves, she landed a record deal at 18, released the modestly successful darkwave cuts “Stay Away” and “Nuclear Seasons”, then hit the big time with 2012’s kiss-off anthem “I Love It”. Originally scrapped from her own album for being too poppy, the beat-pounding re-recording by Swedish duo Icona Pop quickly became a worldwide dance-floor favourite. Her goth-tinged debut album, 2013’s True Romance, and tracks like the psychedelic, Gold Panda-sampling "You (Ha Ha Ha)” soon positioned Charli as the missing link between Grimes’ freak scene, Lorde’s dark melodies, and Carly Rae Jepsen’s sweetness. Never one to repeat herself, she’s built a track record as a prolific songwriter and collaborator, penning hits for Iggy Azalea (“Fancy”) and Selena Gomez (“Same Old Love”) and working with the likes of Lil Yachty, David Guetta and BTS. She even followed up the 2019 eclectic, star-studded Charli with 2020’s intimate how i'm feeling now, an album written with fan input during her six-week pandemic quarantine. One thing is clear: Charli XCX’s creative drive and willingness to take risks has made her one of the most unique, enthralling artists of her era. - Apple Music

Biography

Solána Rowe had a weird time growing up. Jersey suburbs, orthodox Muslim household, parents working their way through corporate America, wanted to fit in, couldn’t. She got bullied for wearing a hijab after 9/11 and became the kind of teenager who, on at least one occasion, drew the cops into a chase while joyriding in the family car. “[My parents] were only strict because they were reasonable,” she told Apple Music in 2017. “Like, they’re black, they come from the South and Midwest, they don’t come from anything…they’re not tryna take a gang of risks.” That Rowe had her own ideas about how to live didn’t help. “I rebelled really hard, and I learned everything the hard way,” she said. “I’m very hard-headed, very curious.” It’s a balance—rebellious but insecure, expressive but self-conscious, dreamy but alert—that has made Rowe resonant, but also an anomaly, the kind of artist who doesn’t ignore her quirks or contradictions, but brings them to the table in all their messy human glory. After self-releasing a couple of EPs in her early twenties (she took her name from the Nation of Islam’s Supreme Alphabet—Savior Zig-Zag Allah), she became the first female artist signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, joining future collaborators Kendrick Lamar and Jay Rock. Released in 2017, her debut album, Ctrl, put her at the vanguard of contemporary R&B, mixing the expressivity of classic soul with a hazy, synth-heavy atmosphere and a playful sense of lyricism that brought Rowe’s inner monologue out. “Even with the heels and tighter clothes and other things, I’m still just me,” she said. “I still have a lot of anxiety about the world, and my thoughts and what people think about my thoughts.” - Apple Music

MITSKI OUR QUEEN :deadbanana: all down to the power of TASTE and ORGANIC popularity

Busted rewarded for all their iconic bangers with a #1 album we love to see it

Snoozefest really.
Yay for a top 20 peak for 'Snooze' (I'll check out the Bieber version but based on the clip played just now I somehow don't think it's gonna be an improvement on the original) - thought this was a lower level highlight from the album at first but it's grown on me so much over time, think it's actually my 2nd favourite of the top 40 hits from the album now, such a smooth song. I was going to say favourite but then remembered 'Good Days' is on the album too despite being ancient lmao

Biography

Dave

Challenging power and perception with a free-spoken approach to rap, Dave has indelibly amplified hip-hop’s voice in Britain. Born David Orobosa Omoregie in Brixton, London in 1998, Dave suddenly implanted himself in the UK rap scene in 2016, first with the electric grime alliance “Thiago Silva” with AJ Tracey and then when Drake jumped on the remix of the velvety “Wanna Know” from Dave’s first EP, Six Paths. Rebuffing label advances to pursue his career independently, he demonstrated a self-reliant streak on releases such as his 2017 EP Game Over, whose “Question Time,” a scathing attack on Theresa May’s Conservative government, garnered him an Ivor Novello songwriting award. Dave’s full-length debut, the Mercury Prize winner Psychodrama, followed in 2019; epitomizing his achingly honest rap style, it laid bare personal vulnerabilities while challenging institutional racism in a provocative fashion rarely heard in British rap. The centerpiece of the lavishly soundscaped album was “Black,” a heart-wrenching portrait of the prejudice affronting Black lives. At the 2020 BRIT Awards, where Psychodrama won Album of the Year, Dave started his performance of “Black” by accompanying himself on piano and ended it by excoriating British Prime Minister Boris Johnson as a “real racist” and executing a perfect mic drop. - Apple Music

Central Cee

Central Cee is proving himself to be one of London’s most exciting emerging artists. Whilst only just turning 22, the rapper had already released a slew of solid tracks in addition to a powerful Next Up Freestyle on Mixtape Madness reflecting the rising star’s versatility and distinctive delivery. Building on this foundation, in 2020, Central Cee has gone from strength to strength dropping two singles ‘Day In A Life’ and ‘Molly’, with both tracks having racked up 8 million audio streams collectively. The heat surrounding Central Cee along with some killer short freestyle videos showcasing Central Cee’s lyrical abilities has led to him doubling his instagram following in a matter of months (currently 135K). He’s also gained support from various artists at home and abroad including a co-sign from US rapper Big Sean. Music has been an integral part of Central Cee’s upbringing, dating back to the tender age of 8. His eagerness to create his own musical legacy is deeply rooted within his earliest memories of absorbing the rich sounds of his dad's old school hip hop collection. - Spotify
