October 9, 20231 yr Author Break Free still has one year left! shame to see Rain On Me losing all the ground it made last year but oh well. I did expect both of those Taylor Swift songs to do better but I suppose anti-recency bias and Taylor having a load of other songs here went against them a little
October 9, 20231 yr IxxstCcJlsc 65 55 253 Weeknd (feat. Daft Punk) – Starboy 86-62-74-81-55-55-65- 4th, 2016 At 65 ‘Starboy’ drops 10 places this year after 2 years being static in 55th place. The song has always managed to make it through to the final round, initially debuting in 86th place before climbing over the years to reach its peak at 55. This year the song placed 4th in the 2016 heat and made it directly through to the final where it picked up a total of 12 votes. Released as the lead track from his 3rd album, ‘Starboy’ reached number 2 in the charts and was the first song where he worked alongside Daft Punk. ‘Starboy’ is the 4th appearance by the Weeknd in the final round so far, with 3 songs, all from his ‘After Hours’ album still to make an appearance.  64 118 253 Zedd (feat. Foxes) - Clarity 100-188-204-71-95-175-132-209-118-64-xx 8th, 2013 | 11th, SF2 Meanwhile at 64, ‘Clarity’ manages make it back into the final for its last appearance on ROTD and reaches its best position to date. Initially debuting at 100, the song has only made two other appearances in the final round until now. It finished in 8th place in its 2013 heat and 11th in its semi-final round to make it through to the final for the last time. 12 songs from 2013 made it through to the final round, out of those ‘Clarity’ manages to finish 9th amongst them.  63 207 255 Grimes - Kill V. Maim xx-155-341-243-98-77-207-63- 11th, 2015 | 20th, SF1 Another big climb next as ‘Kill V. Maim’ climbs 144 places this year after managing to reach the final round for the third time. Previously the song has spent most of its ROTD life outside the final, with appearances in 2020 and 2021 where it previously only got as high as 77th place. This year however it manages to go even further, finishing 11th in its 2015 and then 20th in its semi-final to reach the final round and gain a new peak. The song gained just 9 votes, with only 1 song still to come gaining less than 10 votes. However, off those 9 votes more than half saw the song placed in voters top 10’s which really helped to push it up the rankings this year.  62 68 257 Mark Ronson (feat. Bruno Mars) - Uptown Funk 76-122-65-40-243-25-68-62- 20th, 2015 | 6th, SF2 A modest climb next for ‘Uptown Funk’ which rises 4 places this year. ‘Uptown Funk’ debuted at 76 and barring 2 years has always managed to make it through to the final round. This year though it was by the skin of its teeth as it only placed 20th in the 2015 heat, it did however then storm its semi-final to finish in 6th place. ‘Uptown Funk’ was the first song from Mark Ronson’s 4th album which ended up being rush-released and then got to number 1. In terms of ROTD its Ronson’s 2nd highest song, behind ‘Nothing Breaks Like a Heart’  61 ** 265 LF System - Afraid To Feel 61- 6th, 2022 | 7th, SF1 Lastly in this group we have a debut for ‘Afraid to Feel’ which manages to make it to the final round in its first year. ‘Afraid to Feel’ placed 6th in the 2022 match and then 7th in its semi-final to reach the final. In terms of 2022 songs it finishes 4th overall in the final, being backed by 12 voters overall. A great song from last year, which managed to gain the Number 1 spot, however it feels likely that LF System are going to be a one-hit wonder with no subsequent material managing to break through. Good to see a strong start for this song though and will be interesting to see if it manages to hold up year on year.
October 9, 20231 yr Thrilled to see such a strong result for ‘Luna’ this year, one of my favourite songs of the 2010s
October 9, 20231 yr Kill vs Maim *.*Â That Grimes singles run of REALiTi > Flesh Without Blood > Kill vs Maim is among the best I've ever heard. Absolute alt-pop perfection.
October 9, 20231 yr As is a lot of these songs oop, who's still enjoying Uptown Funk? ðŸ˜ðŸ’€Â My taste is so out of touch with BuzzJacks
October 9, 20231 yr The top 3 of 2022... incredible scenes :wub:Â Delighted at some of these climbs, Clarity ending on its peak is great to see, and Luna coming out of nowhere.
October 9, 20231 yr Kill V. Maim has become a random staple of mine in the past year, dunno how it suddenly crept up on me as such a fave but happy to see it here. It's the only ones of hers that I do properly love though.
October 9, 20231 yr Loving the big climb for Kill v Maim, a song that ROTD first introduced me to a few years back. Â I was intrigued to see where Afraid To Feel would land, thought it could be potential Top 20 as a lot of people seemed to quite like it at the time... but if only 12 voters included it in their lists, the popularity was less widespread than I thought.
October 10, 20231 yr I actually think Uptown Funk has held up very well among the perennially overplayed of recent times tbh. While it's not something I would necessarily actively seek out, I still very much enjoy it on passive listens. It's a very well crafted pop song.
October 11, 20231 yr Author KtGFByAJRQQ 60 ** 265 Eliza Rose & Interplanetary Criminal - B.O.T.A. (Baddest Of Them All) 60- 3rd, 2022 Coincidentally the two big dance hitters of last year end up with the same points total - finishing a place above LF System by tiebreak we have the debut appearance for Eliza Rose. 'BOTA' had already been introduced to Buzzjack through finishing 3rd in an edition of the forum's song contest when it quickly ascended the charts, reaching the summit on its 6th week in the top 100. After which the song proved to be even more of a forum favourite, of course. It was also historic for Eliza being the first female DJ to have a #1 hit in over 20 years, although the song's production was handled by Interplanetary Criminal and lifted from a 90s house track. The song is an absolute tune in my opinion so great to see its love here translated to a very reasonable RotD debut - it is the 3rd-highest track of 2022 in the rankings. Eliza Rose may yet have a second hit by way of guesting on Nathan Dawe's forthcoming single however none of her solo follow-up singles yet have managed to make any impact. 59 113 267 Calvin Harris (feat. HAIM) - Pray To God 203-274-278-69-68-94-113-59- 7th, 2015 | 4th, SF1 Reaching new heights this year we have Calvin Harris & Haim with their unlikely collaboration. It couldn't be one of Calvin's numerous top 10 hits, only reaching a UK #35 peak. However Buzzjack this year regard it as his greatest work of the past decade. The song has seen success here a few times before in part helped by the natural crossover appeal a track like this has on the forum with pop, dance and indie fans. Indeed going forward this may well be the only representation Haim get here, as their debut era now turns ten years old and other follow-ups of theirs didn't hit as much. As for Calvin himself we may very well see a new song of his out-do this in next year's rankings. 58 83 268 Wolf Alice - Don't Delete The Kisses 637-636-296-125-83-58- 9th, 2017 | 18th, SF1 After this song climbed into the top 100 for the first time last year, and with them also having had a newer song of theirs enter the top 20, the Wolf Alice fandom of Buzzjack continue strong here with this getting another new peak (having yet to drop year-on-year since 2018). The song is their biggest streaming hit by a considerable distance and was Gold-certified this year too despite only scraping the UK top 100 at the time of their Mercury Music Prize win for the parent album. 57 24 268 Taylor Swift - Blank Space 28-93-113-59-88-73-56-24-57- 13th, 2014 | 15th, SF2 Third one down for Taylor Swift now. After having gained a lot of support to gain a new peak last year, 'Blank Space' loses all its ground again and drops behind two other tracks from the '1989' album. With the re-recording release imminent, perhaps we'll see this gain again in its final opportunity. The song currently sits as Taylor's biggest streaming hit and even on Buzzjack continues to out-do what was the album's lead single 'Shake It Off'. 56 72 269 Clean Bandit (feat. Anne-Marie & Sean Paul) - Rockabye 92-85-81-144-120-72-56- 13th, 2016 | 14th, SF2 I wasn't expecting 'Rockabye' to peak this late into its run but here we are - it leapfrogs 'Rather Be' this year to do so. The song became the group's second UK #1 hit and took advantage of a very dry Christmas/New Year period to spend 9 weeks atop. The song's lyrics were written by Ina Wroldsen about her daughter and was due to perform vocals on it, however the label forced her out in order to push Anne-Marie who at this point had just had a breakthrough hit. One of the group members Neil also quit days before the song's release. Regardless it remains a great dance-pop track.
October 11, 20231 yr Author YjNytMN4QL0 55 58 269 Years & Years - King 19-53-17-56-35-46-58-55- 8th, 2015 | 9th, SF2 Continuing a perfect run in the RotD final we have 'King' which remains the biggest hit of Years & Years' career, holding very steady relative to last year. Following two smaller hits it was this track that really pushed them into the big time being a huge #1 hit. Inspired by 80s synthpop alongside current dance music it was sure to go down as a Buzzjack fave and it did manage to reach the top 20 on two occasions although it has seen more middling success in recent years. Although they were a band at the time, Years & Years nowadays acts only as a solo project for vocalist/actor Olly Alexander. 54 46 273 Billie Eilish - Bad Guy 100-60-46-54- 5th, 2019  Also continuing a perfect final run this year we have 'Bad Guy', which had climbed ever since its debut at the bottom end of the scoreboard until this year. At one point of her career perhaps considered her signature song, it nowadays sits toward the bottom end of her current top 10 most popular tracks on Spotify, though with the mammoth UK chart run it had it's likely still her all-time best seller over here by a considerable margin. On Buzzjack two of her later hits both placed in the top 20 of last year's final and are still yet to be revealed for this year. 53 48 273 Dua Lipa - Be The One 48-52-33-30-48-53- 3rd, 2017 The third of seven Dua Lipa tracks to fall, 'Be The One' was originally put out in 2015 to little fanfare outside of internet pop fans but later became her 4th UK hit single after having been re-released and cemented itself as a big Buzzjack fave in the process. It remains one of two songs from her self titled debut album to place in the RotD final and continues a perfect run albeit at a new lowest position. 52 26 275 Ariana Grande - One Last Time 182-07-02-08-18-61-26-52- 2nd, 2015 The fifth entry from Ariana Grande now which means less than half of her appearances are in the final 50. 'One Last Time' had a short run in the top 10 just after it had been re-released as a single in 2017, but soon lost a fair amount of its support - and indeed again this year it loses the ground it made up last time. It is another strong dance-pop track from her anyhow and I can get behind this continuing to be one of the fan favourites of hers here. 51 ** 280 Metric - Doomscroller 51- 15th, 2022 | 24th, SF2 Time for an indie voting bloc fave now and a bit of a surprise finalist placement here. Having barely scraped a place through the semi-finals and finishing only 15th in the yearly round, 'Doomscroller' ends up now as the second-highest entry from last year leaving only Raye 'Escapism' to represent in the top 50. Metric are a Canadian band who have been going since 1998 and although never reaching UK top 40 have kept somewhat of a fanbase on Buzzjack. However it was this song that proved to be a cult forum hit like no other, with many of us wowed by its ability to keep you hooked throughout the entirety of its 10 minute runtime. It's a very well done song and I don't usually love the cult indie faves so much. As you'd expect anyhow it got a very top-heavy set of votes and all its big fans kept it high in their rankings throughout the contest although some songs yet to come have even more of a top-heavy bias..

October 11, 20231 yr The cult indie hits that perform well on here are generally significantly popular with (relatively) high streaming counts by acts with fairly high profiles that at least get high charting albums, but Doomscroller finishing so high is something else - it's almost 18 months old and its total worldwide Spotify play count is still only 1.7m, to finish as high as 51st is absolutely insane, and so fully deserved too. Also great to see Don't Delete The Kisses close the gap on The Last Man on Earth - couldn't quite understand why they were so far apart last year, particularly when the former is their signature song. Edited October 11, 20231 yr by RabbitFurCoat
October 12, 20231 yr King has aged amazingly imo, still feels like such a mammoth moment from a production perspective that I might even like it more now than I did at the time. I’ve never reaaally got the Pray To God love personally but you described pretty well why it does well, bringing genre gaps to get points all over the shop.  Definitely some odd songs still to come which definitely shows the shift in Buzzjack taste in the last few years. Don’t think we’d have been seeing Mary On A Cross beating One Last Time/Rain On Me etc. even just 5 or so years ago.
October 12, 20231 yr pFptt7Cargc 50 61 281 Taylor Swift - Out of the Woods xx-xx-247-299-157-104-207-61-50- 19th, 2014 | 12th, SF2 Kicking off the Top 50 is the first of 5 appearances from Taylor Swift as ‘Out of the Woods’ climbs 11 places to hit a new peak. For the first 2 years it was eligible, ‘Out of the Woods’ didn’t receive a nomination and didn’t reach the final round until last year where it placed at 61. This year however it manages to climb 9 places and hit the top 50 for the first time. ‘Out of the Woods’ narrowly made it through the 2014 heat in 19th place but sailed through its semi-final round. In the finals ‘Out of the Woods’ gained 12 votes, with just 4 top 10 placements. I always think that despite being overloaded in the heats, Taylor tends to underperform when it comes to the final round – or maybe there’s just too many of her songs making it through that the vote is spread thinly.  49 202 282 Tame Impala - Let it Happen xx-xx-xx-108-58-83-202-49- 17th, 2015 | 15th, SF1 A big climb next as ‘Let it Happens’ managed to return to the final round this year and gets its highest placement to date. For the first 3 years the song was eligible, it failed to gain a nomination, however in 2019 things changed and it narrowly missed reaching the final. Since then its only failed to reach the finals once, which was last year where it dropped to a low at 202. This year it narrowly made it through both the 2015 heat and its semi-final to reach the final round. Over it gained 11 votes, with 5 top 10 rankings, including 2 2nd place votes.  48 36 284 CHVRCHES - The Mother We Share 131-53-08-11-08-10-27-21-36-48-xx 5th, 2013 Up next ‘The Mother We Share’ drops 12 places to hit its lowest placement since 2015 and doesn’t finish its ROTD run in the best way. The song failed to make it to the final in its first year, however has become a staple ever since, it managed to peak twice at 8, however fell out of the top 20 in 2020 and hasn’t returned since. Released as their first single, ‘The Mother We Shared’ is CHVRCHES only top 40 success as a group, they did gain a top 10 hit with Marshmello back in 2019 though. Personally I’ve never got the big deal with ‘The Mother We Shared’ and much prefer ‘Clearest Blue’ and quite a lot of their other output. However its quite a Buzzjack fave and directly made it through to the final finishing in 5th in the 2013 round. The song gained just 11 votes in the final round, with just 1 top ranking.  47 38 284 Bastille - Pompeii 46-101-28-31-23-65-19-13-38-47-xx 3rd, 2013 The 2013 songs keep on coming as ‘Pompeii’ drops 9 places this year to finish its ROTD run. ‘Pompeii’ has only failed to reach the final round once, and even then finished just outside the top 100 at 101. Over the years its managed to poll in the top 20 twice, reaching a peak in 2021 at 13. Last year though it dropped to 38 and this year it drops to its 3rd lowest ranking. ‘Pompeii’ became Bastille’s first big crossover hit, they did have one top 40 success before ‘Pompeii’ hit Number 2 in the charts. Quite an epic song, its good to see it manage to hit the final so many times. ‘Pompeii’ gained a massive 17 votes, however 6 of its votes were 10pts or less and really stopped it from progressing. In terms of 2013 songs, despite finishing in 3rd in the 2013 round, ‘Pompeii’ finishes in 7th place for that year.  46 21 286 Galantis – Runaway (U & I) 78-221-346-136-114-50-21-46- 5th, 2015  Lastly here, ‘Runaway (U & I) slides 25 places this year, however manages to retain its top 50 position. Initially the song debuted at 78, however then had 4 years where it failed to make the final round at all, that then changed in 2021 when it made it to 50 in the final vote. Last year it reached a new high when it climbed to 21st place, however this year can’t quite replicate that success and drops back to a similarly position to in 2021. ‘Runaway’ because the first Galantis song to gain them major success, getting to Number 4 in the UK Chart an giving them their first top 10 single. A great dance track and probably one of my favourites of theirs. It’s also good to see them still getting some success mainly featuring with other acts though. In the final round the song gained a total of 14 votes, with just 2 top 10 rankings.
