As I already said, kinda disappointing to see Adele's incredible record lost to people just sticking on a curated playlist in the background all day but whatever.

Agree with this. People chose to listen to that specific song, it was a big event release like we used to get a few times each year. Whereas this Christmas playlist stuff is, from a chart perspective if nothing else, boring beyond description.

Hope Wham's streaming numbers are enough to stop Sam Ryder manipulating charts with Amazon.

It would be stupid to see Sam #01 when Wham! got the streaming records this week in UK.

Stupid to just keep listening tot hat Easter song on repeat, when there are FAR better and proper Xmas songs out there - likr Mariah Carey and Leona Lewis, for example.

The record was broken in my opinion more because Spotify seems to have more users now than ever before
I’m not fully on board with this idea that 2.9 million streams are all playlists either. I agree Wham! wouldn’t have broken the record without playlists and their role in making songs like Cher’s a hit is undeniable. But largely they’re a convenient way for users to listen to the songs they want to listen to anyway. Wham! is near the top of the playlists because it’s the most popular, not the other way round. If the playlist didn’t have people’s favourites near the top they’d think that playlist has gone rogue and we’ll pick a different one next time.

My favourite part of the holiday season has begun. Numerous non-Christmas songs re-entering the top 200 on Apple Music now.

I have to say though, the Christmas songs seemed to hang on quite well on boxing day this year. Wouldn't be surprised if the same happens in the boxing day spotify update.

Nope. These playlists are Americanised and inckude a lot of unpopular songs here. Lrona is EXTREMELY popular on Apple and nowhere kn Spotify becauze of playlists, for example. Same with Coldplay etc

Wham was still no1 on Apple until 27th last year just with less streams, plus there is increased streams this year as well!

should we tell him the Apple charts are also hugely influenced by playlists or...?

But the British songs feature MUCH higher and that's all it takes

Yet Coldplay are massive in America.

But excluded from their xmas playleests. They were huge, before they sold out with cheesy pop btw.

Aside from one poster, no one has said Last Christmas is not one of the most popular Christmas songs. But I expect very few are searching it out to play on repeats. It’s very clear that Christmas playlists are the leading reason for the high streams of any Christmas songs.

They still are a huge stadium-selling band, and at this point likely always will be.

Every time you do this, I give Wham an extra stream especially for you :)

Why are People in this thread really still trying to reason with an illogical troll.
I'm really hoping that Anne-Marie's Amazon Exclusive makes the top 100 this week. It's wishful thinking really, as the song doesn't have a very festive sound. She was promoted as one of their artists alongside Jorja and Sam, but unfortunately, her song hasn't gained any traction.

Not everyone has been here for the 10 years this has been going on and don’t realise that the trolling is deemed normal and acceptable on this site.

Very americanised it's why we have Mariah near the top all the time :P

Anyway, can't remember if Boxing Day streams are still completely dominated by Christmas songs or do we have to wait one more day? Whatever, soon we'll have normal songs back in the Spotify top 50 and interesting to see what new ones emerge.
