It's American winners for all three weeks here. Taylor Swift's pace of new chart entries has remained high all year and she may have missed out on a poll win with the crop from '1989 (Taylor's Version)' but quickly followed those releases with 'You're Losing Me', becoming a top 20 hit as it finally got a streaming release after only previously being available on certain physical editions of her latest studio album 'Midnights'. This one does the trick to earn her a fourth poll win of the year for week 49, tying herself up again with Olivia Rodrigo for the most of the year. It was a close call though and only got the support of just over a third of voters, winning by 2 votes over the Christmas re-skin of Sabrina Carpenter's 'Nonsense' which for some reason counted as a new entry and is the only other song of the week to get double figure votes. Week 51's result was similarly low scoring as the late Juice WRLD's latest archival release (spruced up with a verse from Eminem and also co-crediting producer benny blanco), which scraped the low top 100 amongst near peak Christmas domination, took a low competition win with the support of just about 3 in 10 voters although at least did crack double figure approval unlike Ryder/Skepta, and it wasn't quite uncontested this time though it had a comfortable 4 vote lead over Nicki Minaj's revolving door new entry of the week. Between those in week 50 we see a more convincing win for the legendary Cher who of course became the first artist to have top 40 hits in 7 different decades (though not until the following week as she narrowly missed out in her first charting week), her vocoder-aided attempt to add to the modern Christmas canon (from a full new album titled, appropriately enough, 'Christmas') is well received here earning the votes of nearly 6 in 10 voters. In joint 2nd, 9 votes behind (and being the only other songs of the week to reach double figures), are the Jack Harlow/Dave collab from the forthcoming Lyrical Lemonade album and Tate McRae's third charting song of the year which couldn't quite match the poll wins of the first two. Cher, Juice, Eminem and benny all earn their first poll wins.

From week 49 D-Block Europe's latest blink and you'll miss it 'hit' found a way to still somehow give them another wooden spoon despite one of its competition being literally impossible to listen to for many members of the site - nonetheless it still got 3 votes so could be worse, while enough people had the ability to hear Meghan Trainor's Amazon offering and liked it for it to finish just ahead though still falling short of 5 votes. Everything from week 50 got to the 5 vote mark (Nicki Minaj and Drake only just about though), while in news even less surprising than the Meghan/DBE bottom 2, week 51's loser is the Creator Universe misfire though it's spared from being the 4th member of the 0 vote club as somehow 2 people were sticking up for it. I have to hope that those were just 2 people who wanted to vote for something but really don't like either Juice WRLD or Nicki Minaj. The null vote is an option though! (and indeed well used for week 51 as like in the Ryder/Skepta week 'null vote' was actually the most popular option with 9 more takers than Juice).

At last we've soldiered through the barrage of multi-week polls and we round out the year of these polls with a nice brief 13 minutes and 22 seconds, 5 songs, 2 and a half of which are boomer Christmas classics while the other 2 are UK rap songs so not really the most exciting week to round out on but hey at least we got a few new entries. (Thanks again to Jim pointing out in the top 100 thread that although The Jackson 5's 'I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus' appears to be a new entry on the OCC database, it did actually scrape into the chart back in 1987 too but is credited only to Michael Jackson for that chart run, nonetheless it's the same recording so I've omitted it from this poll).

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible!

The November monthly round remains open for another week alongside this poll, shall aim to get the first weekly poll of the new year up along with the results for that on the evening of Sunday 7th January and the final 2023 monthly round for December soon to follow after that.

Just Cher and Stevie Wonder this week.
Donny Hathaway gets my only vote, I’ve grown to appreciate the song a bit more than the Jess Glynne cover this year
  • Author

Voting nice and early this week x

1 'Entrapreneur' 7.5/10

2 'This Christmas' 6.5/10

3 'Toxic (Freestyle)' 6/10

4 'What Christmas Means To Me' 6/10

5 'Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer' 5/10

Just voting for Cench, not really anything new from him (I'm sure quite a few of the lyrics are straight up reused from previous hits ) but a solid if not top tier addition to his discog, beat and flow both on point here. I hadn't heard 'This Christmas' prior to Jess Glynne's cover of it (I thought for a while it was an original song from her oops!), Jess' version never really impressed me that much and while I do like the original more with Donny's warm vocals it's still just ok for me, not one I'd put in my own rotation. I feel like I'd need to be more into the lore of Songer's career to really appreciate the significance of his freestyle but I suppose he has a decent flow and it's good to hear the instrumental of 'Toxic' in the chart again but for a freestyle it doesn't really deliver any particularly memorable lyrics, fine enough but not one I'll go back to. I have grown to be quite a fan of the original 'What Christmas Means To Me' but I'll be sticking to that over the Cher cover, her vocals sound fine (yay no vocoder this time :P) but I do prefer Stevie's. I stick up for Dean Martin's bigger hit but his version of 'Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer' is a bit stiff and awkward at times (really could do without the random accent and German phrases thrown in near the end), bonus points for the nice backing vocals though a la Sinatra's version of 'Jingle Bells'. I much prefer the Gene Autry version that the Hot 100 gets every year but ultimately much like 'Jingle Bells' it's an odd song to have as a chart hit in any form really!

1. Central Cee - Entrapreneur

2. Songer - Toxic (Freestyle)

3. Donny Hathaway - This Christmas

4. Cher and Stevie Wonder - What Christmas Means To Me

5. Dean Martin - Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer

I'll give Central Cee a vote but I'm not that enamoured with the track. At least it's not a Christmas one!

I'm not quite getting 'Toxic Freestyle'. It feels like there's no reason for the beat to be 'Toxic'. His flows make no effort to fit into the instrumentation. It feels like it's been mixed together by some poor AI. It gets 2nd place for not being Christmas.

'This Christmas' is better than Jess Glynne's version but still a pretty mid holiday track. 'What Christmas Means To Me' is better than 'DJ...' but feels pretty pointless. Why does 'Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer' suddenly turn German?

Only Toxic (Freestyle) for me.

Donny Hathaway - This Christmas (#63) - this is a great song in all the versions I've heard but this is certainly the best vocal

Central Cee - Entrapreneur (#71) - this is his strongest vocal for a while and the production is on point. annoying he re-used the toyota yaris to urus lyric though <_<

Dean Martin - Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (#74) - iconic and incredible, how has this not charted before

Cher and Stevie Wonder - What Christmas Means To Me (#95) - this is one that's eluded me until now but I dig it!

Songer - Toxic (Freestyle) (#100) - OMG this is sensational *_*

A full house from me to end the year :cheer:

1. Donny Hathaway - This Christmas

2. Dean Martin - Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer

-

3. Cher and Stevie Wonder - What Christmas Means To Me

4. Songer - Toxic (Freestyle)

5. Central Cee - Entrapreneur

Don't we usually also get a 'Don't want to vote for any of these' option?

When there's only 1 week you can just null vote.

  • Author
Yes I only include 'none' as an option in the multi week polls because you can't null vote for only one question of a poll. (Maybe I should include it anyway to make it more clear that that's always an option x)
  • Author
Last day for any more votes for this, will get the first poll of 2024 up later tonight :jump: (it's not much more exciting than this one unfortunately x)

01. Donny Hathaway - This Christmas (#63)

02. Songer - Toxic (Freestyle) (#100)

03. Cher and Stevie Wonder - What Christmas Means To Me (#95)

04. Dean Martin - Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (#74)

05. Central Cee - Entrapreneur (#71)

Just voted for Donny. Not a vintage week
