BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 46 and auto-qualifying for the November monthly round is Dua Lipa - Houdini.

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 47 and auto-qualifying for the November monthly round is Tate McRae - exes.

BuzzJack's favourite top 100 hit for 2023 week 48 (by default) and auto-qualifying for the December monthly round is Ryder and Skepta - #skeptacore pt.3.

Very clear and obvious winners in both of the competitive polls this week - British-Albanian pop girl Dua Lipa may have missed out on the UK #1 with 'Houdini', the lead single from her forthcoming 3rd studio album, but it claims an easy 2nd poll win for her here with the backing of nearly 70% of voters and a 13 vote lead over its closest competitors, a tie between the track that kept it off #1 from Jack Harlow and the latest hit from Chase And Status (with assist from Stefflon Don). Canadian pop girl Tate McRae's top 15 and perhaps future top 10 hit 'exes' got fewer votes (though still over 60% support) but an even bigger margin of victory in the week 47 poll, a 16 vote lead and more than double the total votes of her closest competition from Eliza Rose and Calvin Harris. It's likewise her second poll win, having topped the vote with both of the singles from her second album 'THINK LATER', but her first untied one since 'greedy' did not live up to its title as it was only a joint winner. The top 7 all reached double figures in week 46, with Sam Ryder's Amazon track finishing in 4th only 1 vote behind the joint silver medallists, Olivia Rodrigo falling a bit short of getting a 5th win but still with a respectable vote tally in 5th, Noah Kahan and Hozier in 6th and PinkPantheress and Central Cee just passing the mark in 7th. Week 47 also had its top half reaching double figures although that's only 3 songs this time with Sabrina Carpenter also just reaching the 10 vote mark in 3rd place. Should of course mention the third poll too where Ryder and Skepta had a default win but only 9 people (less than 1/4 of poll participants) actually pulled the lever to say they supported it so 'null vote' is the true overwhelming winner here :kink:

It was a long wait to get the 2nd member of the 0 votes club but much shorter for the 3rd, with Chris Brown and Byron Messia's linkup (featuring copious autotune and monotony) taking the wooden spoon for week 46 with not a single supporter. Chris' other new entry of the week also fell short of the 5 vote mark but still did 1 vote better than the K-Pop of the week from Stray Kids. Mazza L20 had more remixes than poll votes as he and his various friends also fell short of the mark. We very nearly also had a 4th 0 voter but 1 person did register a vote for Jorja Smith's Amazon cover in week 47, while Drake's deluxe track also missed the 5 vote mark (but I was quite pleased to see J.I.D comfortably surpassing it if still not quite making double figures). Maybe better news for Drake one post down though...

I planned this to just be a 2 in 1 poll to get us up to date but I took a bit too long to get it up again so thought I may as well wait until the new chart was out as I figured it would only have a couple of new entries anyway (in fact I feared it might be a win by default for Creator Universe lol, thank the lord for a midweek Juice WRLD release and Nicki Minaj's 3 track rule revolving door). As such it's another 3 in 1 but with only 19 songs in total, and only 18 that can be easily listened to (although the Spotify playlist has 19 tracks since we have yet another Noah Kahan track that got in thanks to a split in under the radar streams of the original album version plus a newly released duet version). Week 49 totals 28 minutes and 25 seconds (with double Noah but no Meghan), week 50 totals 25 minutes and 22 seconds and week 51 is just 10 minutes and 30 seconds.

Best I can do for a link for Meghan Trainor is

I'm afraid, if anyone knows of it getting a radio play that I can link with a timestamp or something let me know but it doesn't look like it, otherwise it seems no one has bothered to upload the full song anywhere (or if they have Amazon have been astute in taking it down). Any Amazon Music subscribers can here it on there of course. For the rest of us... I doubt it's much of a loss :kink: at least we have Frank Sinatra's version in the following poll :magic:

Vote for as many or as few songs as you want and would be ideal if you can make sure you've heard all the songs before voting if possible! (will allow an exception for Meghan x)

Now that the polls are finally up to date again I will do my best to get back to my original schedule so will aim to get the next (single week) poll up on New Year's Eve, so a bit over a week to vote in this one. That is if there are any new entries at all in this week's chart, which is certainly not a given! Will get the November monthly round up soon as well ~

And here are the results from the October monthly round... (with thanks to the 19 people that voted in that :jump: which is the lowest so far whoops but tbf not the most compelling bunch of songs here)

Unfortunately it is the end of the road for these:

10 68 Jorja Smith - Feelings (feat. J Hus)

9 82 Joel Corry - Hey DJ

8 92 Jung Kook - 3D (feat. Jack Harlow)

7 110 Charli XCX and Sam Smith - In The City

6 112 PinkPantheress - Mosquito

5 113 Jax Jones, D.O.D and Ina Wroldsen - Won't Forget You (1 12)

Still in with a chance of making the final for the year is...

4 113 JENNIE - You & Me (3 12s)

Which means our next 3 guaranteed spots in the yearly round go to Drake et al., Noah Kahan and Troye Sivan :cheer: that's right, one of the forum's biggest punching bags Drizzy manages to land a song in the final, though with a big assist from a more popular featured female artist (and Sexyy Red as well who's probably also an asset when it comes to BuzzJack though somewhat less well received in other circles), and helping that the song actually has a pulse unlike a lot of his other recent releases. It was pretty close to falling short though as it's just the lucky song to come out on top of a very close 3rd-7th place bunch - JENNIE is also lucky to get to the playoff round, only 4 points behind Drake but scraping by on a tiebreak with 5th placed Jax Jones & friends (oof). PinkPantheress sadly just 1 more point behind in 6th and then Charli XCX and Sam Smith only 2 more points behind that, with all having a solid lead over the 3 also-rans. The top 2 ran away with it as Noah Kahan in 2nd place got 24 more points than Drake, and he finished a bit closer than I'd have expected to the fairly predictable win for Troye Sivan who ended up 13 points ahead. These are the first songs in the yearly final for all artists involved.

3 117 Drake - Rich Baby Daddy (feat. Sexyy Red and SZA)

2 141 Noah Kahan - Stick Season

1 154 Troye Sivan - One Of Your Girls

Went for Laufey and the two Sabrina’s in round one, in round two went for Cher and Frank Sinatra and in the final group didn’t vote for any as don’t like anything!

Week 49

2 x Sabrina Carpenter

Week 50

Cher (love this -_- )

Tate

Nicki - Needle

Nicki - pink Friday Girls

Week 51

Juice/Eminen/Benny

Week 49

1. Sabrina Carpenter - A Nonsense Christmas

2. Taylor Swift - You're Losing Me

3. Sabrina Carpenter - buy me presents

4. Laufey - Winter Wonderland

5. Noah Kahan - Everywhere, Everything

6. Meghan Trainor - Jingle Bells

7. D-Block Europe - I Need It Now

8. Beyoncé - MY HOUSE

Voting for my top 2 this week. I'm surprised that 'A Nonsense Christmas' has charted on it's own, it's basically just a remix of 'Nonsense'. 'You're Losing Me' is another solid Taylor effort.

'buy me presents' feels straight off one of Ariana's Christmas EPs. 'Winter Wonderland' is much better than 'Jingle Bells' when it comes to streaming exclusive festive covers this week. At least Meghan doesn't do most of her annoying traits on 'Jingle Bells' though.

We're definitely starting to scrape the barrel when it comes to Noah Kahan tracks now.

The bottom two are awful. 'I Need It Now' might just be DBE's worst effort yet and 'MY HOUSE' is just a bit loud and annoying really.

Week 50

1. Tate McRae - run for the hills

2. Jack Harlow and Dave - Stop Giving Me Advice

3. Nicki Minaj - Needle (feat. Drake)

4. Fred again.. and Baby Keem - leavemealone

5. Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday Girls

6. Nicki Minaj - Everybody (feat. Lil Uzi Vert)

7. Cher - DJ Play A Christmas Song

8. Frank Sinatra - Jingle Bells

Voting for my top 2 again. 'run for the hills' wouldn't have been my pick from the Tate album but it's still good. 'Stop Giving Me Advice' is Jack's best since 'WHATS POPPIN'. A rare bad Dave line with the 'skeletons dancing' bit though.

'Needle' is definitely my favourite of the 3 Nicki tracks. Mainly due to Drake actually sounding pretty decent on it. The sample on 'Everybody' is just too much, the sample on 'Pink Friday Girls' is just as overbearing but fits the theme of the album much better.

'leavemealone' is probably Fred's most interesting song but still pretty mid.

'DJ Play Me A Christmas Song' is just a inferior Believe pt. 2 but with a Christmas theme. 'Jingle Bells' is definitely preferable to Meghan Trainor's version but has some annoying parts what only seem to be there to stretch the length of the track.

Week 51

1. Juice WRLD, Eminem and benny blanco - Lace It

2. Nicki Minaj - FTCU

3. Creator Universe - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday

Just voting for Juice WRLD this week. Eminem's verse on 'Lace It' does sound a bit boomer-y but it's a touching message.

The Wacka Flocka Flame sample in 'FTCU' is less obnoxious then her other recent hits but the Megan diss is so tacky.

'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday' wouldn't actually be as bad as everyone is saying if it wasn't for the one lady with the 'joke' vocals that are worse than LadBaby's and makes the track unlistenable.

Week 49: Noah Kahan & Gracie Abrams, Laufey & Beyoncé

Week 50: Fred Again.. & Baby Keem, Jack Harlow & Dave + Nicki Minaj & Lil Uzi Vert

Week 51: Juice WRLD, Eminem & Benny Blanco

Week 49: Taylor Swift

Week 50: Jack & Dave, Fred & Baby Keem, Cher, Nicki (Pink Friday Girls)

Week 51: Nicki

49: Laufey & Noah

50: Jack & Fred

51: Juice

51 was close to being null but I thought if nearly everyone did that Creator Universe might win by default.

Bump back to first page ~ aiming to get the last weekly poll of the year up tomorrow evening so about a day for more votes for this :jump:

Been a bit lazy with posting my rankings for the last couple of threads, dumping them all in this post :magic:

From the previous thread:

Week 46

1 'Northern Attitude' 9.5/10 (9/10 for original)

2 'Nice to meet you' 9/10

3 'Houdini' 8.5/10

4 'Selecta' 8.5/10

5 'all-american bitch' 8/10

6 'Murdaside' 8/10 (6/10 for original)

7 'Angel Numbers / Ten Toes' 8/10

8 'Lovin On Me' 7.5/10

9 'LALALALA' 6.5/10

10 'One Of The Girls' 6/10

11 'You're Gonna Go Far' 6/10

12 'When We Were Young (The Logical Song)' 6/10

13 'You're Christmas To Me' 5/10

14 'Nightmares' 3/10

Voted for the top 8, very strong week - yay finally another Noah Kahan song I liked enough to vote for, in fact liking this one even more than 'Stick Season', the instrumentation on 'Northern Attitude' is really lovely and the extra harmony with the Hozier version definitely enhances it that little bit more. PinkPantheress also delivering another banger (need to hear this album x) with excellent production and actually a really fitting verse from Cench imo, my only complaint is it could have used a final chorus to tie it together. Dua's song kind of feels to me like more of the same of the last era still but that's not a bad thing, still excited for the new album and I do like this more than 'Dance The Night', the last minute is a highlight for sure. 'Selecta' is the 2nd best C&S hit of the year for me, a banger, nice to hear Stefflon Don in the charts again in prime form and a good use of the Ashanti sample. 'all-american bitch' worked as a great intro track for the Olivia album, one of her best rocky songs for me, so happy it got to register a chart position at least for a week. Was a good call to drop the rather dodgy Pistol Po verse from 'Murdaside' for the remixes, the vocal mixing on Mazza's verse is a bit rough but I do think he actually delivers a pretty cool verse and the hook is really catchy, I listened to a few of the other remixes and the Aitch/Potter version is definitely the best one I've heard as both of the features deliver a good performance here. FOR SHAME I actually really quite like a Chris Brown hit for the first time in a while, dammit Chris you're supposed to make it easy for me to hate on you... oh good you had another new hit in this week as well that was nowhere near as good serving your usual mix of cringe and dull with bonus unpleasant autotune, let's focus on that one :D Byron's feature is decent enough which saves this from an even lower score though. 'Lovin On Me' is definitely lazy especially in the verses but it's catchy enough and the production reminds me of Drake's 'The Motto' which is one of my favourites from him so it just about gets a vote from me. Liking the phonk influence on the chorus of 'LALALALA' but it's stilla bit of a mess overall as Stray Kids usually are, an improvement on their other charting song of the year though, hopefully one of their tracks will click with me properly eventually. 'One Of The Girls' has grown on me a bit since I wrote these rankings down (I'd probably move it up to a 7/10 now) but still not quite vote worthy for me, Lily-Rose is not a great singer and some of the lyrics are a little uncomfortable plus I don't really want to be reminded of the plot points of The Idol lol but I do quite like the general menacing vibe of the song. The other Noah newie of the week was back to his usual level of just ok for me. Was surprised at how much I enjoyed the Guetta/Petras song, it's still not one I'm rushing to go back to but feels much less like pissing over the original song than 'I'm Good (Blue)' and 'Baby Don't Hurt Me', this one is an alright if unremarkable remake. Though I'm not sure what the point was of just barely changing the lyrics leaving it feeling a bit uncanny. I'd probably also bump Sam Ryder up to a 6/10 or so now as that's also grown on me and been a bit of an earworm the last couple of days but still nothing special here, it's too similar to 'Underneath The Tree' which is not one of my faves.

Week 47

1 'Surround Sound' 10/10

2 'exes' 7.5/10

3 'You Broke My Heart' 7/10

4 'Stay Another Day' 6/10

5 'Body Moving' 5/10

6 'Feather' 4/10

Less good week here as I just voted for my top 2, however 'Surround Sound' is definitely one of the very best new hits of the year (after it was one of my favourite songs of 2022 x), J.I.D never misses and especially slays on the post beat switch verse here, I know the song has just become popular because of the (also great) hook going viral on TikTok but yass for that smuggling such a technically impressive rappity rap verse into the charts as a result *.* wonder if Radio 1 actually play that part of the song lol ~ also one of 21 Savage's best ever features and Baby Tate's bridge is a perfect garnish for the song too even if very brief. Tater Tot also delivered another song that bops just hard enough to be worthy of a vote although it's not quite pop perfection to the same level as 'greedy' for me. There are parts of 'You Broke My Heart' that I like a lot but as a whole song it feels too disjointed (could really have done without the melodic parts entirely honestly) so not quite getting a vote from me. As I posted elsewhere I think Jorja's take on 'Stay Another Day' is actually more interesting than the average Amazon Christmas cover, has some nice production and I like what she did with the 'stay now' chant in the chorus, but at the end of the day I don't really even love the original song that much so it's still not an essential. The Eliza song sure does exist doesn't it. 'Feather' has its moments where I almost feel like it's quite good but it remembers to throw in enough cringe moments throughout to remind me it's Sabrina Carpenter who I'm not sure I've really liked anything from to date. I made a realisation when listening to this week's polls that she's kind of like the pop version of D-Block Europe for me, she defaults to just being uninteresting and making me feel nothing so my ratings for her songs are decided more on how many parts of it actively make me cringe to bring it down from the baseline of like a 5/10 :kink:

Week 48

1 '#skeptacore pt.3' 5/10

I just null voted. The production on this does sound fairly nice but I don't think it really fits particularly well with the Skepta sample. Also I read that the instrumental was basically stolen a la Robin Schulz/southstar so how bout no x (credit to Flawed Mangoes)

3 'You're Losing Me' 6.5/10

4 'Winter Wonderland' 6/10

5 'I Need It Now' 3.5/10

6 'buy me presents' 3.5/10

7 'A Nonsense Christmas' 2/10

N/A 'Jingle Bells' not going to subscribe to Amazon Music just to listen to this/10

Voted for the top 2, not the best week but 2 songs that stand out just enough, including a third vote from me to Noah Kahan further increasing his batting average, although this one is very carried by a good chorus, the verses are pretty whatever but I do like Lizzy's Gracie's delivery of the second verse more than Noah's so again the duet version is a slight improvement. I don't really get why so many people hate 'MY HOUSE' so much, by no means one of her best songs or anything but issa banger and particularly like the beat switch. I definitely appreciate 'You're Losing Me' for its lyrics but the actual song mostly kind of goes in one ear and out the other for me although the vocal effect on the chorus is kinda nice. Laufey's cover of 'Winter Wonderland' does exactly what it says on the tin, pleasant enough. And here's where the Sabrina vs. D-Block Europe comparison came in :kink: 'I Need It Now' actually starts off decently, the hook sounds pretty cool for the first couple of lines but then gets boring quickly and the verses have a bunch of cringe moments but overall not their worst, the beat at least sounds more lively than a lot of their output. Both of he Sabrina songs are largely just boring except for when they make me cringe as well, which is slightly less often on 'buy me presents', that also at least has a nice saxophone part near the end which bumps it up a point or so, 'A Nonsense Christmas' is just taking what was already a mid at best Ariana clone song and dialing the cringe factor up to 11. Not sure why this wasn't just combined with the original for chart purposes tbh! I'm still crying myself to sleep over not getting to hear what the rest of Meghan's version of 'Jingle Bells' sounds like but the 30 second snippet of it didn't particularly pique my interest x

Week 50

1 'Everybody' 8.5/10

2 'Stop Giving Me Advice' 8/10

3 'Pink Friday Girls' 7.5/10

4 'Jingle Bells' 7/10

5 'run for the hills' 7/10

6 'Needle' 6.5/10

7 'leavemealone' 6/10

8 'DJ Play A Christmas Song' 4.5/10

Voted for the top 3 here, I've heard bits of all of Nicki's album and there are definitely much worse songs on there so a pretty good selection charting here, albeit I feel like I could suddenly decide at any moment that 'Everybody' is actually awful, it's very all over the place but I think it's enough of a banger and transformative enough to not feel too disrespectful to Junior Senior. Good to have more Jersey club in the charts. 'Pink Friday Girls' flips the sample nicely enough too (and I actually quite like Nicki's singing of the hook), similar to 'Barbie World' which I did also like. 'Needle' is the weakest of the 3 to chart in the first week but still a solid enough Drake dancehall track. I think Jack Harlow delivers a pretty solid rap performance on 'Stop Giving Me Advice' (certainly much better than the verses of 'Lovin On Me') but Dave is of course the star of the show. Sinatra's version of 'Jingle Bells' is definitely a lot better than his rather limp version of 'Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!' for me, particularly liking the added background vocals, but at the end of the day it's just Jingle Bells which is weird to think of as a charting song  still not one I'd add to my own festive playlist but it's a fun version. 'run for the hills' is another solid offering from Tater Tot (though suffering a bit from trying to fit too many words into the chorus x). A little disappointed by 'leavemealone' unfortunately, it's the most a Fred again.. hit has sounded like it could have been made by someone else to date, just a pretty run of the mill drum n bass song and although I'm usually a fan of Baby Keem I think the particular vocal sample used on this one gets a little grating after a while, overall it's not bad but a step down from Fred's usual quality. The Cher song was better than I expected but still, I never liked the vocoder on 'Believe' and it doesn't sound good here either which docks it a bit, it wasn't quite as prominent as I feared though.

Week 51

1 'Lace It' 8/10

2 'FTCU' 4.5/10

3 'I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday' lol no/10

Only voting for Juice here, they're still finding solid hooks from his vault and Eminem delivers a good verse on this one. 'FTCU' feels like it's trying to be a banger but it really falls flat for me and don't think I didn't notice that Tory Lanez bar. Why did they let the worst singer on the Creator Universe thing have the most solo lines? Is that supposed to be 'comedy'? Because it otherwise feels like this is trying to play it completely straight. Anyway, it's not good, thank god it didn't actually get to further taint the legacy of the Christmas #1.

^ not to nitpick but it’s Gracie Abram’s on everywhere everything, lizzy mcalpine was on call your mom :kink:
