Posted March 18, 20241 yr Thank you for all the suggestions for your chart flops of 2005, now we look at the next year, 2006. What songs do you remember from this time and why do you remember them fondly? These could be songs that failed to make the UK Top 40 Singles Chart, or even the Top 75, but they have to have been released as a single at some point during the year. I will nominate something in a little while that I personally enjoyed in this year, but for now, it’s over to you. ^_^
March 18, 20241 yr First three that immediately come to mind. Believe it or not this only made it to number 70 in June of 06 is one of the great country tracks of all time. pojL_35QlSI?si=1cbtWmzKe5jVxeDB Missed out at 42 but an absolute tune from All American Rejects! XleOkGsYgO8?si=9Cko0mN3JOHyeqX1 and then we have t.A.T.u. with 'Friend or Foe', the follow up to 'All About Us' the previous year and only made it to 48. 9GOWn1tp_OU?si=jhA2VEAP-6XinZps
March 18, 20241 yr woVS1U7KnFc #43 in the UK, June 2006. I guess the 80s remix trend had become a bit old by that point.
March 18, 20241 yr Shakira - Illegal I know this made it to #34 so it may not be considered a flop, but I absolutely loved this. Still do. It deserved better. 2_K8Zns3s9A
March 18, 20241 yr 'Nothing In This World' was a song about her album sales :kink: All jokes aside I did actually quite like that song.
March 18, 20241 yr 'Nothing In This World' was a song about her album sales I have a copy of her album.
March 18, 20241 yr One of the most well known songs never to chart? It was from an album released late in 2005 but pushed as a single in most territories in 2006. I don't think it ever got a CD release here to be fair, so coudn't chart, but it was played a lot on the music channels. WaSy8yy-mr8 This was originally released in late 2005 and got to No.63, I prefer the album version though from 2006, so posting it here. A great song, I adored this band so much. _-USdYBKw7U One of The Cardigans' late career highlights, an absolute stunner (the last minute is <3), and it didn't even make the top 75 at all... yRyJQ20nFhc One of my favourite singles from Beth Orton, only peaked at No.44. JvJasSfvnRI This was a bigger hit on the continent, reached No.54 here. It was on a Lacoste advert here for some time. fx_HG-kp1yY Ok, this got to No.30 but I distinctly remember thinking this great French house track would be a big top ten, and that just never happened. The vocalist was the same guy who did Starlight in 2001, Mani Hoffman. NvsupX2mDyE I can't mention Eurovision this time as the winner and the UK entry both went top 40 for once! The 2005 Eurovision winner though returned with an equally huge sounding track as her winner, that was played a lot on UK TV in 2006 but went nowhere. VineYzbmmG0 Icelandic girlband's second hit, only reached No.64 after their debut had got to No.29. It was a double a-side with a cover of Sweet Dreams, and also got to No.1 in Iceland. Xcw1ynhzFmU
March 18, 20241 yr Shoutout to Cherish ‘Do It to It’ (didn’t a hit song sample this recently?), Alesha Dixon’s ‘Knockdown’ and Sandi Thom’s ‘What If I’m Right’. so many loveable flops from 2006.
March 18, 20241 yr Shoutout to Cherish ‘Do It to It’ (didn’t a hit song sample this recently?) dPCS68n0s2I Yep a UK top 10 hit by ACRAZE ft Cherish. Cherish and Sean P's original version in 2006 made #30 in the UK chart. I really like this remix of a classic which only made #39, surprising given how well known the song its covering is. Another remix made #37. h26MtNfxTAY Edited March 18, 20241 yr by TheSnake
March 18, 20241 yr This did the rounds on TikTok a while back but I remember it originally as a childhood bop... 2UuXld2s6g0?si=jMkzymDtan7YvH6s
March 19, 20241 yr One of the most well known songs never to chart? It was from an album released late in 2005 but pushed as a single in most territories in 2006. I don't think it ever got a CD release here to be fair, so coudn't chart, but it was played a lot on the music channels. WaSy8yy-mr8 Also, it randomly made the Radio 2 playlist in 2013!!
March 19, 20241 yr This was the start of the Disney Channel golden age for me thanks to High School Musical so I went to see what else charted from that year and I've come to learn that y'all made the most random Hannah Montana songs chart there... and this was the only one that made sense to me uVjRe8QXFHY sure this only made #43 but like.... y'all made Ice Cream Freeze chart and yet Nobody's Perfect didn't??????
March 19, 20241 yr Frank's debut I'm Not Shy flopped in at #40 but deserved better! g5LKV4Wx_LE Stacie Orrico's #22 flop should've been a top 10 hit. OlLckjP337U
March 19, 20241 yr David Gray's first track to miss the top 40 minus the original release of 'Please Forgive Me' was this at 71! 4aM8saMdA04?si=DIrLMd0jHGeytQyF This also from our 2008 Eurovision representative Andy Dustbin man Abraham. Was on music channels a lot and look where coming 2nd in X Factor lead him oop FZzYveWfuMY?si=abDrEfIKRLu2_rd5
March 21, 20241 yr Always thought N Dubz made their first appearance in late 2007 but turns out 'I Swear' charted at 91 in 2006! hnbW1DM4qrw?si=2xmASK_BXk33DvU6
March 22, 20241 yr Paris Hilton - Nothing In This World (Only # 55 in UK) PdmzmOYM7DE Didn't like this song & didn't think it worked as a follow up in my opinion. "Turn It Up" should have been the 2nd single & could have fared much on the charts than this lacklustre effort. "Jealously" & "Screwed" would have made great choices as well.
