Day 9 Everything but the girl - Good cop bad cop

Recently bought their 96 Walking wounded album on vinyl and discovered this gem <3

Day 9:

The song that inspired this theme suggestion, I’ve started to go back through some of Janet Jackson’s old albums that I didn’t hear before and this from the Janet album is an incredible song. Somebody online pointed out that Made In London’s Dirty Water (No.15 in 2000) is a straight rip-off and it’s hard to argue with that. Sounds the same in almost every way but I love both.

As folk rock is doing well at the moment I thought I’d go with this from 1970 - just bask in those harmonies.

April 9th: I discovered this a year ago when I read Jim Morrison’s biography. Love it!

Day 9: recently had a friend mention they were listening to Catatonia which made me seek this one out, such a nostalgic feel to it!

omg I just noticed the UGLY member banner on my thingy, someone make me a mod asap!!

or just change my category to something cute and colourful x

I don't venture enough away from what I know to "discover" an older song tbh... I usually either know it already or if I've never heard it, it's because my tastes don't align with it and I don't care for it. I'll try and think of something but there isn't something "recently" that I've discovered...

Magazine - Shot By Both Sides

I've been immersed in a lot of late 70s and early 80s new wave/post-punk style music recently. As a result, I found 'Shot By Both Sides' by Magazine, a fab discovery. This song dates back to 1978 and frustratingly peaked at #41 in the U.K.!

April 8th - A song you like with a planet in the title: David Bowie - Life On Mars?

April 9th - A song from the 20th century that you only recently discovered: Magazine - Shot By Both Sides

Magazine were fabulous and featured one of the greatest guitarists ever - John McGeogh

Day 9 - Woody Guthrie - Tear the Fascists Down

The most recent new addition to my library that's from last century is this little ditty from the legend that is Woody Guthrie. I know plenty of his work but this somehow passed me by until I saw a version of it in the TV show Masters of the Air.

First written and performed in 1941 originally although this recording is from 1944 I believe.

Catching up with this challenge:

Day 6- A song you like that reminds you of a vacation

Mr Oizo- Flat Beat

Remember this being played a lot when I was in Poole with my parents back in 1999.

Day 9

The Shirelles - Will you still love me tomorrow

Depends what you define as recently but I discovered this song about 2 years ago and I'd never heard it in my life... it's now one of my favourite songs ever I utterly adore it is one of my most played songs on spotify.

DAY NINE: SONG FROM LAST CENTURY

It's not entirely a new discovery as such as I've recognised it for a long time, but it's the most recent addition to my iTunes library from the 20th century after I heard it in a Netflix drama last year and realised how much I liked it

April 9th - A song from the 20th century that you only recently discovered: The Nolans - I’m In The Mood For Dancing

To be fair, I’m American and a 90’s baby, and the only time I really heard this song was on DDR, so it wasn’t until the YouTube algorithm recommended a video on UK girl group chart histories that I found out that not only was the DDR version a cover but this was pretty huge on the other side of the Atlantic in the 80’s!

Unironically I think this is the only song from the 20th century I've discovered in months! I used to listen to loads of music from before I was born but it's become less important for me now.
