April 8, 20241 yr A great selection of songs so far. I should have a few of my own to add later in the week.
April 8, 20241 yr Katherine Jenkins - Bring Me To Life SzKdRf4bS1Y Much better than Evanescence version. Little Boots - Earthquake yeJBd746-4w
April 8, 20241 yr My favourite year of music ever. I loved this year so f***ing muchhhhh! My Top 100 Favourite Songs of 2009 : http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=204875
April 10, 20241 yr Booty Luv - Say It (#16) Xg5hitGqfZ8 This peaked at #16 but only spent 4 weeks in the top 100! I was certain that this would be a huge top 10 hit at the time. Iirc, this release was a few months too late? Icr exactly, but I'm pretty sure we were all thinking it should have released a couple months earlier! --- Keri Hilson - Energy (#43) bHVQXMCux78 Keri Hilson decided to re-release the wonderful 'Energy' right after the huge smash hit 'Knock You Down'... unfortunately this missed the top 40! This deserved so much more :( (I'll never forget 'I Like' randomly charting almost a year later though *.*)
April 10, 20241 yr Follow up to 'Uprising' peaked at 49. Wasn't a fan of this being honest but you'd have thought the follow up would still manage a top 40 entry either way! R8OOWcsFj0U?si=D_GYw2oVJ1u4oZeT
April 11, 20241 yr Got a fair few for this year: Hoobastank ft Vanessa Amorosi - The Letter - Australian peak: #39 PhNYZufUqTg LeToya - Not Anymore - USA peak: #107 DwoAHkmb_5E Smashproof ft Gin Wigmore - Brother - Australian peak: DNC (#1 in New Zealand though) KACvXBUUDMw Gin Wigmore - Oh My - Australian peak: DNC (#4 in New Zealand though) luhnj7ZPWL4 September - Until I Die - UK peak: DNC (#5 in Sweden in 2007 though) x0m_mLB72to Paloma Faith - Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful? - UK peak: #64 wjWcF1QJx1Y Edited April 11, 20241 yr by One_For_Sorrow
April 11, 20241 yr Follow up to 'Uprising' peaked at 49. Wasn't a fan of this being honest but you'd have thought the follow up would still manage a top 40 entry either way! R8OOWcsFj0U?si=D_GYw2oVJ1u4oZeT I always quite liked this one, but it's been a very recent grower for me and I've found myself listening to it quite a lot!
April 14, 20241 yr Equally as good as Ignorance so this deserved higher than its #85 peak A63VwWz1ij0 Released at the same time as Hard (within like a week of it I think), this definitely got lost in the Russian Roulette hype meaning it didn't make the Top 40. Unlike Hard though, this didn't get another push which is a shame (biggup Chase & Status on the produx and RiRi championing dubstep in its formative years) 8u965-x-l3w Edited April 14, 20241 yr by lewistgreen
April 14, 20241 yr I always quite liked this one, but it's been a very recent grower for me and I've found myself listening to it quite a lot! 'Undisclosed Desires' from when it came out always reminded me melodically of Lady Gaga - 'Paparazzi' Edited April 14, 20241 yr by TheSnake
April 18, 20241 yr This was another one I saw mentioned on here that didn't get anywhere. Wiki says it peaked at 110! 2bLCyG1to9A?si=VDEZz_yGzZBPeNNw
April 18, 20241 yr Forgot all about this one, Taio Cruz following up his first #1 with this one which got to #42...then promptly went top 10 again with the following single hN3MdUHKkMg
April 18, 20241 yr This one from Beverley Knight I liked and only peaked at 96. BbZb50_tXys?si=LPDz3ml6mrEX0Mgi
April 22, 20241 yr Author Once again late to the party, but let me present some unmentioned flops from early 2009; White Lies – To Lose My Life [Peaked at #34 in January 2009] This song felt much bigger to me than its chart peak suggests. I suppose it’s a reasonable outcome for an unknown band at a time where indie music was seen less often in the charts. GGEjz12YLiM Kaiser Chiefs – Good Days Bad Days [Did Not Chart] This one didn’t even make it inside the Top 100 (peaking at #111 according to Wikipedia). It was the band’s second single from their third studio album Off With Their Heads. XldnORDPYuQ Ida Maria – Oh My God [Peaked at #85 in February 2009] Forever a one hit wonder, Ida Maria followed up her Top 20 hit I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked with this flop some months later. No other hits again afterwards. eED30qLA0KY Chase & Status feat. Kano – Against All Odds [Peaked at #45 in February 2009] Early days for the drum n’ bass outfit Chase & Status, whilst they would go on to achieve a bigger hit toward the end of 2009, this goes forgotten by most of their fans. MHCdYeSDJMk The Script – Talk You Down [Peaked at #47 in March 2009] The fourth and final single from the band’s debut album, it was not as successful as the others due to being released long after the album had been released. Wwimgki3OIQ Jennifer Hudson – If This Isn’t Love [Peaked at #37 in March 2009] She never had the most glowing of commercially successful music careers, but Jennifer Hudson definitely had her fan base to ensure regular Top 40 hits, but many of them underperformed in the UK like this one. 6_Iqk3t6lT0
April 22, 20241 yr D'oh how I forgot 'If This Isn't Love'. Lovely track. Also liked 'Talk You Down' as well. There was this from My Chemical Romance as well which peaked at 52. In my personal chart it went from top 5 to not top 40 in a week though 🫣 FOuSxal8pf4?si=OudD_-N7d9cSqPIS
April 23, 20241 yr Author Onto quarter two of 2009; here are some additional flops; Basshunter – Walk On Water [Peaked at #76 in April 2009] Already on a declining slope, Basshunter’s few hits in 2008 were not enough to propel him into hit territory in 2009, and this one failed to reach the heights of the Top 40. I4bbXvfxr6A Taylor Swift – Teardrops On My Guitar [Peaked at #51 in May 2009] The Love Story narrator failed to repeat the same success with this single from her debut era, failing to secure a Top 40 hit at the time. xKCek6_dB0M U2 – Magnificent [Peaked at #42 in May 2009] Just a year or two earlier these guys were still regularly scoring Top 10 hits, but by this point interest in U2 had waned and they struggled to ever get hits again. This was their first flop in over 20 years! Yi52HjJbwVQ Beyoncé – Diva [Peaked at #72 in May 2009] Everyone in the UK was still downloading Halo at this time that this new single completely passed them by with a very low peak. rNM5HW13_O8 Escala – Palladio [Peaked at #39 in June 2009] Britain’s Got Talent finalists from 2008, Escala had a one flop wonder in 2009 with this single which narrowly scraped the Top 40. They wouldn’t have any other Top 75 singles afterwards. nXb5UNI6nPs Nickelback – If Today Was Your Last Day [Peaked at #64 in June 2009] Although released in 2008, the single had a brief resurgence in 2009 where it re-peaked at #64. It might have gone higher if it weren’t for Michael Jackson’s discography taken up so many chart positions following his death. lrXIQQ8PeRs
April 23, 20241 yr 'If Today Was Your Last Day' another good track from Nickelback for me. Can't say I cared much for 'Diva' so not a sad loss flop that.
April 23, 20241 yr Author And quickly onto the third quarter too in an effort to catch up with everyone else; Akon – We Don’t Care [Peaked at #61 in July 2009] Akon had a plethora of hits in the previous few years, but by this point he could only really secure hits as a featured artist. This single was only available as a download and flopped. oIUBVPddJsk Kings Of Leon – Notion [Did Not Chart] Despite massive hits with Sex On Fire and Use Somebody, and despite heavy radio play on BBC Radio 1, the song missed the UK Singles Chart Top 100 and peaked at #107, the first time the band had missed the UK Top 100 for a single. NT6mB8N24_g Kristina DeBarge – Goodbye [Did Not Chart] Debut single for the American singer fresh off American Idol. An uptempo dance pop track heavily sampling the popular song Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye which failed to gain any traction in the UK. 4576ymdmemQ Vagabond – Don’t Wanna Run No More [Peaked at #41 in August 2009] I always liked this song and felt it was a shame to flop just outside the Top 40. The UK based band never really took off as an artist and were subsequently dropped after one single. fSgB5c7vIS0 Paolo Nutini – Coming Up Easy [Peaked at #62 in August 2009] A single from a strong second era for the Scottish singer. The song became his sixth consecutive top 75 hit in UK but remains his lowest peaking single to date. FIQ2Rxh1k9Y Daniel Merriweather – Impossible [Peaked at #67 in August 2009] A worrying result for Australian singer Daniel Merriweather who would fail to hit the heights of the charts again in the UK following this outcome. b38GESDK9-4 Dolly Rockers – Gold Digger [Peaked at #46 in September 2009] An English girl group trying to break it into the charts, they came quite close with this debut single, but they weren’t to be seen again afterwards. 2V6rx2lhAOg Livvi Franc feat. Pitbull – Now I’m That Bitch [Peaked at #40 in September 2009] Her only charting single, this Pitbull featured attitude single was enough to narrowly scrape the Top 40 but nosedived the following couple of weeks. T2onHaKs5zs Bananarama – Love Comes [Peaked at #44 in September 2009] The last charting single for 80’s pop sensation Bananarama. They failed to reach the Top 40 with this single, but finished a respectable #44, but were gone the week later. 4usxlYSBc6U Florence + The Machine – Drumming Song [Peaked at #54 in September 2009] Such a strong debut album from this band, the singles were all tremendous, but this one charted the lowest of them all, and didn’t really get any sort of push in the UK. boo2Zm69fhY
April 23, 20241 yr Some stuff that I charted including Kristina, Paolo, Kol, Daniel Merriweather (I guess this flop is what made him disappear!), Vagabonds track is decent and I found that Livvi Franc track to be a bop too. Quite the transformation from this from her the previous year, quite a cute track in itself if nothing special. F1_VnAVsdMI?si=Sbb2lz5p1OVT00nf
April 23, 20241 yr Follow up to Peter Andre's top 10 hit 'Behind Closed Doors' flopped at 50! -OkGbZc_uiw?si=5HnvLDvjlZPVWHe0
