Queen hitting ACR :o

I think that's about right for them actually. They are obviously a great band with a pretty solid discography but I don't actively seek them out that much to listen to. My favourite of theirs is the criminally under-rated (despite being a #1 single) 'Innuendo'

Jeezo, my slam dunk #1 and #2 in this rate out in #7 and #8. Couldn't care less the order of what's left 😂

How the hell have

Steps

climbed this much?! Have all the Buzzjack

Steps

stans come out of the woodwork just for this rate?

One thing to note is how close the top 6 were last time! The only surprise is how high Steps have suddenly climbed. This is the first one of these I’ve voted in - and Steps are one of my all time favourite groups.

Queen, Abba and the Beatles are three artists who, though I massively respect them (and ABBA were the first artists I listened to as a kid) - none of them are artists that I’ve regularly listened to since I got massively into music in 1987/88, so got no votes from me.

But as someone said - though I don’t think Steps will win, it’s a possibility. They’ve overtaken Queen who were not many points behind Spice Girls last time.

I wouldn't have had Queen ahead of the Beatles tbh nor that high last time, this one feels more apt, they are a great group who have recorded some all time classics and seemingly a unanimous answer to 'what is the best song of all time' with Bohemian Rhapsody, but their later material in particular lacked the innovation of some other greats.

...but still streets ahead of one certain group who really need to leave soon xx

That is a surprise for Queen!

Let’s keep the spoiler tags when referring to anything not yet revealed - I know it may seem obvious now. x

This has really gone very south for me since the Top 10 started but fingers crossed for my last one left.

Favourites by Queen are “Innuendo”, “The Show Must Go On” and “Who Wants To Live Forever?”

I'm not a big fan of Queen at all. I don't mind the occasional song but I find them very annoying, even though I can see why others like them. To be honest I'm not at all surprised to see them fall down, as the rate has progressed it's become clearer that we've had more pop fans voting this time compared to last - and there's far less pop groups to spread votes around than there are alternative ones so it's only logical that there would be strong condensed support for the ones that are particularly buzzjack friendly. The remaining 'old' band also feels like the most obvious choice for buzzjack too, I'm just surprised they weren't last time.

Wow! Was not expecting Queen to fall so much, mind if thought they may be at 3 this year but not outside the top 5!

All female top 6 then (well 2 mixed bands)

Not necessarily surprised they've dropped particularly but out of the top 5 certainly is surprising. I do like quite a fair lot of Queen's material.

Be interesting to see how this turns out now

Not sure if this is controversial or not but I've never rated Freddie Mercury's voice as much as some of his contemporaries. Sure, it's very unique and powerful but I can think of many better singers.

That is very controversial  Freddie is one of the all time great singers, there are very few who can match his level in my opinion. Then again I am a huge Queen fan so maybe I am biased.

I am shocked that Queen fell out of the top 5, kinda feel that throws it open again now as I thought the top 5 would remain the same groups as last time! :o

Tend to agree, think Freddie would be just about my first choice if asked to pick great all-round male pop & rock vocalists!

I loved Queen as a kid, right up until about '84 but the older I got the more I realised a lot of their stuff is really quite throwaway and lacking in depth. Stuff like Bicycle Race, Don't Stop Me Now, A Kind of Magic or Flash are pretty shallow although not without some fun. Yet on the flip side they were capable of some seriously inventive tracks like Bohemian Rhapsody and Innuendo. Between that there's loads of great Pop singles, a handful of great Rock songs, some real hidden gems (39 or Love of my Life for exampe) and at least one proper classic album in A Night at the Opera.

Freddie was a genuinely fascinating person (those parties!) and a rare talent. An exceptional vocal range with both a power and delicacy at the drop of a hat which the accapella version of Under Pressure really shows this off. A band of four true talents whose legacy remains despite the seriously insulting efforts of May and Taylor since 1991.

They're one of those bands where I don't think I've met anyone who would call them their favourite band but everybody just sort of liked.

When you factor in his ability as a live perfomer too, it's very hard to disagree. There's a reason he regularly tops polls of greatest frontperson ever and Queen's Live Aid set as the best show ever played by anyone.

7. Queen:

My knowledge of their music really begins and ends with Greatest Hits and Greatest Hits II. Some of those hits are so ubiquitous that I've heard them over the years without really seeking them out all that often!

*Whispers* Greatest Hits houses some of my least favourite songs ever... maybe I shouldn't specify which ones, in case I cause some anguish! :kink: I will highlight liking Killer Queen and Somebody to Love though.

Greatest Hits II is way more up my street, so it seems 80s Queen is more my bag than 70s. Clearly when it comes to the public, the opposite is the case!

I haven't seen many of Queen's videos or performances, but two things particularly stand out to me - the 'I Want to Break Free' video (very iconic), and excerpts I've seen of their Live Aid performances. I can see just from that how Freddie had electrifying star quality!

8. The Beatles:

Maybe this is controversial to say, but I don't have particularly strong feelings about them. I've heard a fair amount of the hits (again, not really from seeking them out - they're just around~!). There's nothing I actively dislike, but equally nothing I can say I really love either. Although to be fair, I've really only scratched the surface with The Beatles' music. Of what I've heard, maybe 'Here Comes the Sun' is my favourite. Of course I recognise and respect their impact and legacy!

9. Pet Shop Boys

They're a bit of a blind spot for me in my music taste/knowledge. I definitely know West End Girls, It's a Sin, Always On My Mind & Go West. I'm not sure if it's a case of there being a few more that I'd know if I heard them, but don't recognise them by title. I'm not particularly into Neil Tennant's voice which might be a bit of a non-starter for me, even though on paper I feel I should like them.

10. The Killers

It surprises people if I ever mention that I've seen The Killers twice in concert! I saw them at an arena in Nottingham in 2012, followed by Wembley Stadium in 2013 (which as far as I can tell is the one time they've played Wembley Stadium?). The friend I went with on both occasions is a massive fan. Funnily enough he's never returned the favour to see any of my pop faves with me. :kink: To be fair, I've liked a lot of The Killers' hits over the years, so it wasn't a case of me being dragged there, and I enjoyed myself! I don't know the studio albums though.
