September 12, 2024Sep 12 Yeah we’re stuck in a hole at the moment where people want everything, but nobody wants to pay for it themselves. Tough spot really.  I have a theory that Reeves has fully costed out the budget so hence why I don’t think they’re changing anything despite the bad polling or backlash. They’re clearly banking on making the tough decisions now and hoping they’ll pay dividends in 3-5 years time.
September 15, 2024Sep 15 Labour MP mocks Keir Starmer for his rhetoric about change  @ 1835248927148327352 Still has the whip not even one of those previously banished. When your own MPs can se you’re full of crap it’s not going well Â
September 15, 2024Sep 15 Author Lot of noticing things and white hot fury by the media these last few weeks. Basically not a moment of rest given to feed in the idea to the public that it was a mistake to vote in Labour and ensure their preferred government re-enters at the next election. I see their f***ing game. In a way I'm pleased that the excesses of the Labour right in some way aren't getting a free ride but this government has been generally quite good so far, and a good indicator of that is they aren't doing any of the nonsense of putting out media lines, then backtracking for short-term popularity and long-term disaster, something the government of the last Conservative term did continuously. Long-term thinking is far better for the country.
September 15, 2024Sep 15 It should be means tested, but that's also going to cost money to implement. I think they'll backtrack on the policy to some degree, but clearly they're going to get all the hard policies out of the way to start with.  OAP free bus passes rumoured to be under threat in the budget too and disabled ones as well. We get one at 60 in London for a £10 admin fee. Good though as wife gets tube at 9, when it comes in to force and pays nothing to and from work. Leaves car at home. Don't use mine much but it's there for vet visits, medical appt, etc.

That sounds a lot like fear mongering. Could see something that they raise the age to 65/68 for lots of traditional pensioner benefits though. Actually sensible longer term decisions if you think most people are not retiring until later.

September 28, 2024Sep 28 Very principled stance. A lot of these Labour MPs have been abstaining or paying lip service but scared to lose the whip or get on Keir’s bad side. Rosie saw the damage he is doing and said not on my watch. I see Diane Abbott giving him hell on a daily basis too. Keir is getting it from all angles. Couldn’t be more deserved. September 29, 2024Sep 29 Great resignation by Duffield despite the fact BJ won’t like her left wing stance here because of her right wing views on a certain social issue!
September 29, 2024Sep 29 She's the ultimate bellend though, sensing a moment to stick the boot in, must have been a terrible struggle for her accepting donations to fight her election campaign. Would say this is karma to the Labour Party for not kicking her out way sooner.
September 29, 2024Sep 29 God Richi Rich is such a slimy piece of SHIT!!! On his leaving speech, he guffawed, Socialism always runs our of other people's money!!! Gyerr herr gyerrr herrr gyerrr herrrr posh people's hrose laugh hyerrr herrr!!! Um ... and what part of neolib stsrmer's government is socislist, exactly? I'll wait. Oh, and as for Sunak's billions? I'm SURE he esrned every penny himself. The workers genersting the weslth had NOTHING STO DO WITH IT, eh!! The problem with capitalism is it spends other people's money and eventually destroys the planet. Yaaay rich people and evil capitalism!!!
September 29, 2024Sep 29 Read the resignation letter though it wasn’t against the Labour Party it’s against Starmers leadership.
September 29, 2024Sep 29 Honestly I hope it's a case of budget being a bit better than predicted and that we'll see improvements over the next few years. One thing I have disliked is the right-wing bots out in full force everywhere.
September 29, 2024Sep 29 She is right to stick the boot in and stick with her principles rather than blindly following the leadership. Given what she seems to be best known for I doubt I will agree with all of her principles but no hate to her for taking a stand and not being a yes man.
September 30, 2024Sep 30 I don't mean this as a defence of Starmer, but she is an absolute c**t and I have no time for her at all.
September 30, 2024Sep 30 100% agree. Transphobic brain rot that she tries to plaster over with pretending to care about other principles. I for one haven't forgotten how she refused to attend hustings for re-election because she was 'scared of getting abuse' but yet was out and about with her team appearing for photo ops at every chance she could get. The celebrityfication of politics has a lot to answer for. You get paid through the nose and make impactful decisions. 'Abuse' aka tough conversations & criticism comes hand in hand.
September 30, 2024Sep 30 Author I actually do mean this as a defence of Starmer - not that I particularly want to be doing so - but this series of scandals isn't anything like the previous Labour government expenses scandal, or the Conservatives partying it up, or losing millions to dodgy private contractors. It's the media deciding that they need to make the Labour government unpopular, sitting back with a coffee and combing the publically available Register Of Financial Interests until they find something they can spin negatively. In some cases, it's invitations to the kinds of events that tend to get gifted gratis to corporate figures in the same way, cloying, but not an indication that public money is being spent improperly, and I've just Ctrl+F'd high-profile Tories from the last government and found very similar things in their lists. In Starmer's case, a replacement for his Arsenal season ticket in the stands that would now be a security risk. In other cases it's taking actions from rich Labour donors and putting a monetary value on them out of seemingly thin air, e.g. Lord Alli letting Starmer's son study for GCSEs in his house now has a value of £20,000... what?  In any case, the fact we know about these, is that they are publically available so everyone knows exactly what MPs have taken money for, which is a good system. What the papers seem to be prescriptively suggesting by highlighting these as scandals is that no MP should take money from donors personally or receive any gift ever. Which is, even for someone like myself who believes public service should be for the most part, its own reward, faintly ridiculous. incidentally if you comb that same Register of Financial Interests for Rosie Duffield you find she's taken payment from the right-wing shitsite Unherd. So no, I wouldn't say this resignation is particularly left-wing, as much as she couched that letter in nice looking left-wing rhetoric, her actions within the PLP have been nothing like those of a democratic socialist and very much of a middle-class weathervane who found her first and only true cause in spitting hate at vulnerable people and playing the victim when people called her on it.

And yeah so are some of the other MPs events they attended, but loads of people get work freebies.. I honestly don't jnow what the huge fuss is about some of it. I feel this is a very early storm for Starmer and his team though, clearly they are morally good people for the most part but they are going to be hounded for the rest of 2024 and be wholly unpopular, which is something Reform will feed off.Â
