Every election result throws up some quirky, geeky facts. Use this thread to post them. Here are my first contributions.

You can travel from Eastbourne to North Devon entirely through Lib Dem constituencies.

None of the 92 clubs that started in the Premider Lwague or Football League last seasom are now ina Tory constituency.

There have been seven Tory PMs from Thatcher to Sunak. Only two of the constituencies represented by them (including both of Johnson’s) now have a Tory MP.

There were 6 MPs elected as Independents, which is the same as every general election from February 1974 to 2019 combined (Eddie Milne in Feb 1974, Frank Maguire in Oct 1974 & 1979, James Kilfedder in 1979, Martin Bell in 1997, Peter Law in 2005, Sylvia Hermon in 2010/15/17).
First time that England have made the semi finals of the Euros during a Labour leadership since 1968.
I can’t think of any contributions yet but stanning this thread!!

Before the election, a train travelling from Bristol to London would spend 55 minutes in Tory constituencies. Now, it will spend just two in one Tory constituency, Beaconsfield.

Sam Carling, new Labour MP for NWCambridgeshire, is the first MP to have been born in the 21st century. Eek!

And within five days managed to bring about the first (of few, hopefully) scandal of the incumbent governing party!

From Youngest member of the house to the Father of the House. Following Peter Bottomley, previous FOTH, losing his seat after being an MP since June 1975 (Bloody hell ) two candidates were in the running both having been elected since June 1983 and the Thatcher landslide - Sit Edward Leigh and of course Jeremy Corbyn. Apparently Edward got it after being ahead of Jeremy Corbyn in the queue signing in in June 1983 according to Hansard so got the honour.

Incase people think this is an anti Leftist agenda Diane Abbot is duly elected Mother of the House following her election in June 1987.

It's a shame it wasn't Corbyn because of a technicality because we were so close to Jeremy and Diane doing all of the ceremonial stuff yesterday; would have been glorious to see the two socialist grandees as Parents of the House.

then again Corbyn based on his comments yesterday might have just raised a stink rather than do the ceremony so... eh

Diane looked quite ill tbh, feel worried for her health, she has an awful shake on her hand. Hope she’s ok.

First time they've made the final of the Euros during a Labour leadership ever.

Peter Bottomley is the first Father Of The House to be unseated. Previous holders of this title have either retired or died in office according to Wikipedia.

Shows how mad this election was that so many Tory safe seats in the south went liberal!

Although it could have happened in the last election as well with Dennis Skinner, he had the 2nd longest service behind Kenneth Clarke so would have become Father of the House if Kenneth had vacated his seat early rather than just deciding to not stand in 2019.

Five members of Gordon Brown’s last Cabinet in 2010 are in the current House of Commons. Just three of Johnson’s last Cabinet in 2022 are there.

Who were in the Brown cabinet:

Liam Byrne

Yvette Cooper

Ed Milliband

Hilary Benn

Pat McFadden

The Eagle sisters

David Lammy

Chris Bryant

John Healey

Not so much about the election itself, more the aftermath - every Labour PM has appointed a member of the (Wedgwood) Benn family to his Cabinet.

Provisional transfer of vote stats - I've seen other graphs about them but this is interesting.

Interesting things I can see from looking at that: Looks like a plurality of the Green vote this time was Labour last time, more 2019 Tories literally died than switched straight to Labour, and the remaining (voting) right-wing bloc is completely split asunder and they're dying off far faster than any other group.

And all but one of these victories, while also impressive, were from candidates who had already built up a profile as an MP while being in a political party, or benefited from the support of allied political parties (with them standing down) while nominally being independent. The independent victories really came out of nowhere.

I don't have any fun facts other than Labour having 11/11 MPs in Derbyshire. If you had told me that in 2019 I would have expected an even stronger landslide than what actually happened.
