Kylie and BMG are a great fit for each other. It’s still a big achievement to get to number one, even only for a week. I think we’ll see more number one albums in the future in tandem with Kylie smiling her way through media cycle upon media cycle, being sweet and lovely and humble. There will be more product launches and cringey collabs and the fans will lap it up. I can see another decade of this easily!

35k sales week one totally eclipses the Guest List Edition week one. No doubt long term the Tension era will outsell Disco. UK and worldwide. Especially with the future tour effect.

Exactly this! Tension II won’t be a successful album per se, but as a substitute for a Tension Tour Edition, it does exactly what it was meant to.

We could post-mortem all we want about T2, distribution problems, blah blah.....but at the end of the day, if she was going to give us an updated Tension, rather than a Guest list or some add-on, I'm glad she gave us a new album and got a no1 in the process. For someone dubbed "singing budgie" and puppet 37 years ago....to retain an ardent fan base and still be serving up hot hits in 2024 is SOMETHING. And breaking records in the process.

Well said!

Yeah of course it’s great but there are valid criticisms to be made about this album’s (and even Tension 1’s) rollout. I just hope for the next era she really plays into her strengths, which will always be the British market

Any update today? I am guessing out of the top 40

Nope, no further updates posted yet on SH.

It's certainly a first for us Kylie fans, wondering whether a Kylie studio album can hold on to the albums Top 40 in its second week :cheeseblock:

Not Top 40 today. :(

I guess it was always going to happen at some point and we’ve managed 9 number ones with a Top 10 second week.

I do feel though she needs to pay more attention to the UK market as its always been so kind to her and her biggest market.

I hear you. But I'm just not sure what ELSE she and her label can do that can have the right kind of impact. She's done radio interviews, TV spots, she got prime coverage on BRITS, Audience with..... these days, even radio spots and A-lists or no1 position on NMF doesn't mean anything. Look at the Little Mix girls. It's a mystery what makes a chart hit, but I don't think promoting on 10 more UK radio shows or TV appearances will help much.

For example, even on an itunes album chart (that probably has dozens of sales at most), even a BRITS performance couldn't send any of her albums back into the top 10. Of course we Kylie fans had our excuses for that (as we do when most of her promo's don't result in the chart success we were hoping for).

Lets be honest

BMG rarely do discounting that doesn't help. Also new album + promo same week always helps her. She did new for Brits or for An Audience with. Most other artists would have something new out on those weeks, BMG didn't bother

She has disappeared from UK for now doing other stuff.

Her Netflix documentary could be good

Her brand is still strong

I’m not surprised it’s out of the T40 already tbh. There has been virtually no promotion in the U.K. and sadly none of the singles have made much of an impact to date. Tension 2 was always going to be a harder sell particularly to the general public - 9 new tracks and 4 fairly average collaborations.

It's a sharp decline having 2nd week top 10s to 2nd week out of the top 40, if we had a top 25 2nd week before an out of top 40 2nd week it would feel less sharp.
