Honestly, very glad that's over - I'm glad it came just before my move / working like 60+ hours at Pride etc, but still very much a hectic part of my life and I'm surprised I managed to provide anything. It's definitely not been my best hosting but I hope it's been okay, and I haven't stretched everything out too long!

 

Such a strong contest and very glad to have a new winner win when I'm hosting, well done to Nelionoir! Big grower of a song for me aswell from semi to the final and I think you're gonna be a great host. Shame that Klumzee finished 2nd again (and I'm kicking myself for not sending it myself, but I didn't even confirm til the last day, so not like I was beaten to it or anything), but at least not agonizingly close!

Wish Kathaldazia, Lookylion, Singerpurear and Bronzil could’ve done a bit better but all did well, well done! Shame about POPHub not getting Top 10 with their anniversary entry, maybe a bit too well-known for the contest in Buzzjack-land? Thought Cheiron would do much better than that two months in a row - feel their win is coming soon because the sound is good tbh.

 

Shout out to popchartfreak for sending “Angel Of The Morning” - I used to HATE this song growing up because my only exposure to the song was terrible karaoke versions but the actual song is STUNNING. Both me and Patrick have been a bit obsessed with it since it was entered - really inspired deep dive and very welcome in the contest!

Great results, that top three is so good, I love that RontBet got the top two spot on (as other predictions had Neliönoir a lot lower and of course Klum was going to be 2nd again).

 

Delighted to see République d'Áskorza in the top three, what a very welcome surprise there!

 

Aeroche I got correct as well in 4th but I did overpredict Lookylion and Cumulonimbia. Glad the former did manage to make the top ten, I think the competition was just too strong for it to be another Honey style ABBA-esque winner in the end, but a great entry.

Elated after a topsy turvy evening to have finished 10th! When I heard it I thought 'well this would likely win Eurovision', which means very little for BJSC but I'm so chuffed that it attracted five 18s, helping us to take a power metal entry into the top ten after Powerwolf was close in 11th (I know this one was more poppy than that).

 

Singerpurear finished more or less where I'd have expected it to tbh. I did wonder if I was underplaying it when the other predictions came in but on balance I think it's just too well known a song (or other songs that have sampled/covered it are) to have won.

 

Would have liked to have seen Jupiterdonia do better, that's such a gorgeous discovery and it's not too often my 18 misses the top 20 but it's happened a few times of late.

 

Wouldn't have epxected to see Hendinia, Thelonia or Land of DW so low either but it was a super strong final so some songs that sound like hits just fell by the wayside I guess.

 

East Rukahavian didn't deserve another last place!

Great winner, not my highest scoring one of the year so far in the end, but in my points at least where the competition was crazy! Looking forward to a Neliönoir vist if you're up for hosting!

 

A return to the top 20, a unique position of 16th, and 26 voters (the joint 4th most tonight and my third highest voter count) are all reasons to be cheerful. I thought it might have even more going for it than that, but we go again with the next contest.

Double checked the final scoreboard and all scores match (had one difference initially but was my mistake). There were a couple of tiebreaks that I have sneakily swapped in Rob's final scoreboard post for full transparency (Fljótavík/Pagasa and Cadelicia/Altyr Muunilinst) but that post is correct now ~

 

'Illusion' didn't quite sneak into my votes in the end despite being a late grower but still fairly comfortably the second best winner of the year so far for me after Fat Dog and always thrilled to see first time winners! Hoping that we will be heading to Neliönoir next (this) month then :o

 

Kluminican Republic expanding their own record for most 2nd places without a win :cheeseblock: one of these days, one of these days. 'Summer Dreaming' was not to my taste so ngl I'm not complaining at that not being the one to end the wait :ph34r: but very happy to see at least one of my votes ending up on the podium, 'Zur Party' is an absolute banger and well deserved surprise big hit! The only other one in the top 10 I voted for was Jadakissnia but they were my 18 of course so yay for them being up there too (even if I slightly overhyped it calling it a possible winner contender at the start of the thread oop). A couple more surprises in the top 10 (for me at least), don't think I'd have called such strong results for Danæviia or Taahino!

 

Bronzil as low as 16th is disappointing, still thoroughly outclassing myself in the #darkwavebloc stakes as I expected but I was sure that was a nailed on top 10 minimum </3 but ah well, suppose a top half finish is never anything to be ashamed of really. Some other great songs in that lower quarter of the top 20 as well, 3 more I voted for and one that was a commiseration, particularly iconic to see Trifoski doing so well! Also a pretty solid showing for Scotland 2 there after some of the slandering it received on SyncTube xx Mothertopia and Cheiron both also a little lower than I'd have hoped but respectable enough results, hope a bigger hit may be in either or both's near future if they keep up this quality. Glad that Abeltesfayeton at least avoided bottom 10. Shame Damaris didn't quite replicate their PFSC result but was still good to hear it again! And as I posted earlier East Ruk really didn't deserve the wooden spoon this time but alas.

 

34th is lower than I hoped when I first decided on entering this song but after being humbled by getting almost blanket DNQ predictions I can't complain at anywhere in the final and glad that it got an 18 and a couple of 15s. Felt overshadowed by 2 wider appealing songs in the same genre niche at the end of the day. I see it was actually a comfortable-ish qualifier anyway, not hurting that all 3 of those who gave it medals in the final were also in my semi! 8 from Elëdan also helping me out there before them not voting in the final aw x (I kept final points from all of my other semi voters except Lotunia who only gave it 1 in the semi and didn't gain any who snubbed it in the semi).

 

I see a number of my favourites only scraped into the semi but did quite a bit better in the final (Scotland 2, Trifoski, Skall, Pagasa post-deduction - although interesting to note Pagasa were not in the top 10 of the semi even before deduction so surviving a 33% hit is not quite the feat it sometimes appears to be x).

However losing the tiebreaker means this is the 5th contest in a row where I haven’t gotten a hit… BUT 22nd is my second highest placement this year! This year absolutely SUCKS in terms of how well I’m doing in the contest but hopefully this is a turnaround?
