October 20, 2024Oct 20 speaking of yunè pinku's veto, think Bré should eat his words for saying artists too well-known on Buzzjack would not be vetoed during Halloween's listenthrough :kink: That is not at all what I said lol x I said there are not many artists who would be blanket vetoed regardless of context, it's at least partly if not mostly down to the song in most cases. ('Fai Fighter' tho - I think I remember commenting somewhere last year that if someone wanted an easy BJSC hit that was sitting there but then did think not long after that actually nah it'd probably be vetoed at this point. I did send it myself to the PopJustice contest a while back though and got one of my biggest hits there coming 4th x) Sorry again for late vetoes, hope we will be able to get going tomorrow x
October 20, 2024Oct 20 Fai Fighter an incredible electronic song, but yeah would have had just too much of a headstart. Like that one is for the song, I wager other yunè pinku tracks would be fine - while the other 3 look to be much more about the artist.
October 20, 2024Oct 20 Fai fighter <3 Definitely a fair veto. Looking forward to hearing everything tomorrow *.*
October 20, 2024Oct 20 We're currently at 57 again. I guess if there's anyone else who still wants to enter you still can tonight / during the day tomorrow x Aelandor Fljótavík Harmonica Hinterlandia Jadakissnia Lotunia Persephonia Singerpurear Suedeonia Thelonia Trifoski Utopia Wholune (+ got a return entry from Tartford so as it stands it's 4 out, 4 in)
October 20, 2024Oct 20 Ugh, isn't it about time to relax the veto rules y'all? I struggle to see any of these having any kind of advantage over other entries , especially since the first comments to pop up once the songs are revealed are usually "how did XYZ make it through the veto?" buuuuuuuut maybe that's just me being salty
October 21, 2024Oct 21 i'm crying at the fact that people thought alesha dixon was irrelevant enough to be sent to this contest
October 21, 2024Oct 21 Ooooh I survived the vetoes! Great news! I've been anticipating your hyped entry this month! :cheer:
October 21, 2024Oct 21 I'm on my third confirmation (and hopefully last) at this point which is pretty unheard of for me which makes me nervous about my chances this month  Got a little queer pop bop lined up so you all better be nice x
October 21, 2024Oct 21 Great news! I've been anticipating your hyped entry this month! :cheer: Woop woop. I had it down as a song that would do well (we'll see with my track record) but had been saving it until after I next qualified for a final - but because that has kept eluding me I'm going for it now!
October 21, 2024Oct 21 In the politest way possible, nobody is ever going to be fully pleased with the veto system. There was a whole thing about Alice Chater a few contests ago and literally none of the four of us even batted an eyelid at her having any relevance, but obviously to some people, she is. We’re just four people trying to make things as much of a level playing field as possible without being TOO harsh. I’d like to think vetoing a former Multichart entrant, a 3x top 5 finisher, an artist with multiple top 40s and a top 5 just a few months ago and actual Alesha Dixon isn’t wildly disagreeable

October 21, 2024Oct 21 I wanna reiterate I'm not trying to minimize the work of those of you who handle the Veto process, I actually applaud you for taking it on despite the constant pushback, and appreciate the work you are putting in. However, I still wonder if it's really necessary - at least in the current format. Some of the disqualifying measures and decisions sometimes *seem* a bit arbitrary, and at times even a bit trivial. I think some of the veto rules are definitely necessary: namely ones to do with chart appearances in the UK and US, as well as personal forums, multichart appearances (to a degree), etc. However, once we reach the rules that are a bit more difficult for the contestants to research themselves it feels like mayyyyybe it's starting to become a bit needless. I know I obviously don't speak for everyone, but most of the time I have not heard of the majority of the songs being vetoed. The main reason why I bring these things up is because in the current format the Veto rules can feel like they're holding the contest back rather than the opposite. A popular song getting support is never a given, and for example personally I tend to give higher scores to songs I discover in the contest over the ones I have heard before. Additionally, there are generally delays in hosting because the veto process takes a long time (understandably so) and those doing veto research obviously have lives outside of this contest. The decisions also tend to come off as a bit inconsistent - most likely due to a combination of factors (I imagine time constraints & pressure could play a part here) - and the ones who suffer the most are generally (in my opinion) the pop block. I personally feel that if we are to have a level playing field is it really necessary to cut songs that don't break any obvious rules? Out of this latest batch I think only Alesha Dixon is an obvious Veto given the score it racked up (even though I personally have not heard the song and would not have objected to it being allowed through), but the other three I'd argue should not have been disqualified - especially since none of them reached the auto-Veto threshold. Given that the current Veto framework has seemingly been in effect for 78 contests - or almost 8 years - maybe it's about time to give it a bit of a refresh? Not a complete overhaul but just a bit of a scrub down to see what still is necessary and what isn't. Anyways, just my 50 cents on this. I know I'm probably biased since my hopeful was one of the vetoed entries, but I still wanted to throw it out there. I hope there is room for a respectful discussion about this matter and really hope no one feels like I'm attacking them because that is definitely not my intention (also please bear in mind that English is not my first language), and in case it wasn't already apparent I want to repeat it once again that I have the utmost respect for all of the mods doing this work.
