September 11Sep 11 Author https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horst_WesselReally really hope that Horst Wessel is not in fact an apt historical parallel for this event but the reaction of the Trump administration so far is following that playbook.

September 11Sep 11 not to mention he would not allow his 10-year-old daughter to get an abortion if she got 🍇 👀👀

September 11Sep 11 Frankly I can't believe my eyes seeing leftwingers and non-cult members posting condolences. One less evil person in the world. That's my view.

For me him being dead as such a horrible person is nothing, what is scary is what will come of it in terms of mobilising this cult. I have a horrible feeling the shooter ends up being socialist or LGBTQ+ or something else they can weaponise and rather than use it to see that the government should control the guns, it’s all going to jump the shark even more than it already has and get even more utterly crazy.

I completely agree and there's little chance of fallback coming here but for people on wider social media, the right is hurt, wounded and looking for scapegoats for this, should they not be able to find the killer. Might be best not to give it to them.

Might be best not to give it to them.Oh, I've been very careful with what I've said. Taking that one out of the rightwingers' playbook. It would be funny if it was a false flag attack to distract from Epstein etc. because even within it what it has shown the American people is; these people that spout all this kind of thing are quite literally not bulletproof and their own rhetoric literally encourages this kind of behaviour. I suppose the UK equivalent would be if we had a politician who insisted knife crime wasn't an issue to be worried about at all and that it was only committed by certain people, ending up getting one in the back.Going back to history this goes back to an argument I've made about politics already umpteen times. All of this 'we treat our poor and needy kindly because we're weak as a nation' etc. rhetoric is bullshit. You people who make up the wealthy and powerful historically have been nice enough to people with nothing left to lose, to keep them sweet. If you don't do that, if you make out they're all up for grabs to be attacked and harmed by you and your people, especially in a nation as heavily armed as America, all you're doing is putting a target on your own back with those groups. Strategically, this was going to happen at some point. It was inevitable. The more people your words reach, the more chance you reach someone with a) the motivation to stop you and b) the means and ability.

Shame for them.

September 11Sep 11 Trump will posthumously honour him with one of the US's highest civilian medals, The Presidential Medal of Freedom.President Trump’s planned appearance was changed this morning “out of an abundance of caution,” officials said. Trump had been due to deliver his 9/11 speech this morning just outside the Pentagon building. This afternoon, there was a bomb threat at Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington DC. US Capitol Police later said it was not credible. "Out of an abundance of caution, Capitol Police is conducting an interior sweep of the building," a DNC spokesperson told CBS, the BBC's US partner.Separately, Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez cancelled her event in North Carolina, citing security concerns and "out of respect for Kirk". Conservative political commentator Ben Shapiro also withdrew from a previously scheduled event in Simi Valley on security advice.Fears of a hit on a top Dem now in retalitation. That worries me too. That one of the worlds foremost gun violence advocates dies at the hands of a bullet is just a delicious slide of irony and schadenfreude. He wanted me stoned to death, I will take great joy in the permanent deplatforming of someone who thinks I deserve to die because of who I love.Don’t dish out what you can’t takeBasically this, f*** him!

There is plenty of anger and uproar at school shootings.Look, he said some very controversial things and was anti trans and to some extent women too. Although many things he said were ironic such as women over 30 were virtually past it and should be married with kids by then. He married his wife when she was 32! Was against abortion but many people are. Good debater though and let others have their say without shouting them down. Many people here had never heard of him.He was considered by the FBI a target and Trump apparently offered him a full Secret Service detail but he flatly refused it.As many others have pointed out there was a literal school shooting yesterday. For an idelogy that cares about children, they sure care a lot more about one of their own? Like I said, I don't condem political violence, but irony is not lost on me that a man who advocated for no gun control is killed by a gun. The most ironic celebrity death since Paul Walker.I am not sure he was a good debater. He was good at his style, but you have to remember his style is looking for gotcha moments. He got showed up massively when he tried to debate at Cambridge University for example.
September 11Sep 11 Surely the point is that whatever the intention was behind the shooting it won't fulfil that purpose. It won't silence the MAGA crowd, it will only inflame themIt will probably only mythologise and elevate the reputation of Kirk for the movementIt will encourage the MAGA movement to hit back in (maybe) the same fashionIt helps to continue the doom loop which deepens the rift in US societySo even if you feel no sympathy for Kirk on a personal level, what it represents can't be good news for either side in the long run.

I've seen people say he listens to both sides, but from all that I have seen he just talks over people. His arguments often lack substance imo.He wasn't up against random college kids, he was up against actual intellects, with experience in debating. He slated the liberal arts of the West, but what Kirk really meant, was the liberal arts of the USA as one example. He debating against people who understand both sides of the argument and ikely agree with him on many of his views, but just not the argument he was projecting. See his whole debate on abortion & DNA as another example.
Friday at 08:345 days Wouldn't be surprised if this assassination was an inside job to try and get more sympathy and therefore support for the far right.
