Scary but bang on. For me him being dead as such a horrible person is nothing, what is scary is what will come of it in terms of mobilising this cult. I have a horrible feeling the shooter ends up being socialist or LGBTQ+ or something else they can weaponise and rather than use it to see that the government should control the guns, it’s all going to jump the shark even more than it already has and get even more utterly crazy.

Any politicians have to, though I don't think quite so many British politicians needed to, though it is the biggest story in the world right now.

Anyone with any sort of following and/or professional status would be wise to also, if there's any good reason to comment on for them, honestly better to ignore it. I completely agree and there's little chance of fallback coming here but for people on wider social media, the right is hurt, wounded and looking for scapegoats for this, should they not be able to find the killer. Might be best not to give it to them.

Oh, I've been very careful with what I've said. Taking that one out of the rightwingers' playbook.

It would be funny if it was a false flag attack to distract from Epstein etc. because even within it what it has shown the American people is; these people that spout all this kind of thing are quite literally not bulletproof and their own rhetoric literally encourages this kind of behaviour. I suppose the UK equivalent would be if we had a politician who insisted knife crime wasn't an issue to be worried about at all and that it was only committed by certain people, ending up getting one in the back.

Going back to history this goes back to an argument I've made about politics already umpteen times. All of this 'we treat our poor and needy kindly because we're weak as a nation' etc. rhetoric is bullshit.

You people who make up the wealthy and powerful historically have been nice enough to people with nothing left to lose, to keep them sweet. If you don't do that, if you make out they're all up for grabs to be attacked and harmed by you and your people, especially in a nation as heavily armed as America, all you're doing is putting a target on your own back with those groups. Strategically, this was going to happen at some point. It was inevitable. The more people your words reach, the more chance you reach someone with a) the motivation to stop you and b) the means and ability.

Look, he said some very controversial things and was anti trans and to some extent women too. Although many things he said were ironic such as women over 30 were virtually past it and should be married with kids by then. He married his wife when she was 32! Like I said, I don't condem political violence, but irony is not lost on me that a man who advocated for no gun control is killed by a gun. The most ironic celebrity death since Paul Walker.

I am not sure he was a good debater. He was good at his style, but you have to remember his style is looking for gotcha moments. He got showed up massively when he tried to debate at Cambridge University for example.

Surely the point is that whatever the intention was behind the shooting it won't fulfil that purpose.

It won't silence the MAGA crowd, it will only inflame them

It will probably only mythologise and elevate the reputation of Kirk for the movement

It will encourage the MAGA movement to hit back in (maybe) the same fashion

It helps to continue the doom loop which deepens the rift in US society

So even if you feel no sympathy for Kirk on a personal level, what it represents can't be good news for either side in the long run.

His style is all about being confident in what he is saying to the point where you make the people you are debating crumble. I've seen people say he listens to both sides, but from all that I have seen he just talks over people. His arguments often lack substance imo.

He wasn't up against random college kids, he was up against actual intellects, with experience in debating. He slated the liberal arts of the West, but what Kirk really meant, was the liberal arts of the USA as one example. He debating against people who understand both sides of the argument and ikely agree with him on many of his views, but just not the argument he was projecting. See his whole debate on abortion & DNA as another example.

Wouldn't be surprised if this assassination was an inside job to try and get more sympathy and therefore support for the far right.
