Hi DJ Sakgra! I’m a fan of yours. I’ve not seen you on here before.

Anyway: strange that DTKIC only occurs once in the Apple Chart. Allegedly Band Aid 20, but a couple of days ago it was Band Aid 30! What’s that all about? ‘Last Christmas’ on the other hand has three versions on Apple: 1, 148 and 151.

Over on Amazon Music Unlimited, Gracie is way ahead of DTKIC which doesn’t feature at all in the top 100 - trailing even Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.

I would imagine that unless it gets reset and hasn’t been already, DTKIC has no chance of getting to number 1 this week. Once Saturday’s Spotify figures are added, it’s worth about 3000 extra for Gracie.

Edit: I update myself: I think the fact the Band Aid is not on Amazon Music Unlimited is an oversight - as it is performing very well on Amazon Prime. I have no idea how the charts will end this week, but I will assume it’s a three-way battle between Gracie Abrams, Band Aid and Wham!

Well that was a messy article explaining absolutely nothing

Anyway, would be so wrong if they grant a reset.

Why would it be, it’s the definition of re promoting a song surely?

In that case they should also reset Mariah and wham, as they are respectively being re promoted for their 40th & 30th anniversaries respectively!
If you go on OCC website, go to the First Look Chart and hit the information button (next to title track) it has confirmed the chart run 45-1
I'm surprised anyone was still expecting it not to be combined? It's pretty clearly tagged as a remix of the original. Whether it is / should be reset is a different question ofc but I don't see why they wouldn't combine it.

That would be taking the piss, if the OCC would be an absolute joke. Should have done that last year for Slade and Wizzard.

Even without the annual Christmas parade lining up according to the regular formation, the chart would be pretty abysmal this year. I'm sure there must be some good new releases out there, a vast array of music is constantly being produced, but very little of it is making the chart lately.

I agree the chart has been slow moving a lot of the year and plenty more songs ideally would have broken through, but I think it’s been a very strong year for the hit singles that have been around. Proper breakthrough for Sabrina, lots of new stars with multiple hits (Chappell, Myles, Teddy, Gracie, Benson etc.) Buzzjack is a great community but a strange place at times with the hate certain artists get.

Yeah i think its easy to forget that none of these people you listed were really thought about this time a year ago. A year ago they had combined for 12 weeks in the top 40 across 3 songs in their careers, none inside the top 20. This year, they've combined for 366 weeks in the top 40 across 22 hits, including 143 weeks across 13 top 10 hits, and 27 weeks at the summit. I mean yeah that shows how stagnant the chart is, but it also shows how good this year has been for artists introducing themselves to the mainstream

I don't think the charts have been particularly slow this year - Sabrina has outstayed at #1 though and wouldn't be surprised if that was all the weeks she can achieve at #1 overall in her career with such a gigantic streams in the space of few months (similar to Shaboozey's hit in the US). In general, charts have been pretty exciting, but the "same old Christmas hits" coming and dethroning "real" hits of autumn is always meh..

So rather than a new entry by Band Aid 40

This is gonna be a re-entry of the original then right?

What was confusing to me was that the single has the over versions

And the occ considers them by different acts

Ie Band aid, Band aid 20, Band aid 30

But looks like it doesnt matter if a physical includes different chart acts

And only the 1st counts (Band aid)

Yeah it does seem a bit inconsistent to me. Band Aid II, Band Aid 20 and Band Aid 30 were all considered different artists for chart purposes, but Band Aid 40 will just be combined with Band Aid. Why the change this time? Or is it just at the record company's request rather than the OCC deciding?

There was a promotional campaign last year too for Brenda Lee, with no reset.

Although I wouldn't actually be against Christmas songs being able to get resets. There's probably a dozen which could be able to reach #1 if reset. It would be better than Wham getting it every year.

It's not Band Aid 40 though, it's credited only to Band Aid like the original, and it is effectively a remix, so it's consistent with their usual approach.

Hope they don't combine the streams of all Band Aids together though - on AM the highest charting is Band Aid 20 which is very alarming. I smell a huge mess coming up :drink: especially if they grant a reset and the gap for #1 is very small.

That's just a glitch as it keeps changing, it was Band Aid 30 the other day! I guess it's really just be the original that's high.

I'd like to see Band Aid get to number just for the pure consistency of all five versions of the song making it. Its sales will no doubt drop off a cliff the following week anyway.
