he is currently discussed a lot on social media due to his murder of unitedhealthcare ceo. first the announcement of his death on facebook gaining more than 100k laugh reacts went viral, and then there is the social commentary about how the greedy health insurance industry has led to many preventable deaths and agony due to rejected health claims (with ben shapiro failing to blame the left  ). i think it's a reflection of the anger of us people to greedy corporations in general. what do y'all think about this current situation?

also not my twitter feed filled with people gushing over him :kink:

The murder itself, no condoning of murder of course, but a clear cut example of the dangers of leaving people without recourse to solve their problems with non-violent means, I feel it'll be totemic as a symbol against America's predatory healthcare industry until it's solved, and it won't be solved with both of the main two political parties getting kickbacks from it.

For instance Josh Shapiro essentially admonishing the social media reaction and asking people not to view this guy as a hero instantly disqualifies him in my mind from running a successful Democratic campaign in 2028. You can't claim you'll fix the problems ordinary people are experiencing and then act with the full force of the system that is entrapping them.

Interesting profile of the perpetrator too, Mangione clearly isn't from a criminal background, just seemed like a guy on the way up the normal ladder of corporate life who had a mental break, possibly health related and then did what he did. Also yes, he's hot (as a str8).

Two words: jury nullification.

I am sceptical that the courts would allow any jury with the slightest chance of this within 1000 miles of this case.

But hearing that he's planning on a non guilty declaration is interesting, I suppose it might be hard to prove to a court that he is the perpetrator on that camera, and he also accused the cops of planting evidence on him; a fight will make this quite a show trial.

The memes are making my life complete right now.

ikr  poor bottom jail mods being very busy these days :teresa:

I’m so going to hell for this but I find this saga so entertaining. One of the best moments was that I was at Central Park where the police were investigating one of the ponds and one of the street performers started singing “Karma Chameleon” 💀 cue to my sister saying “not Karma Chameleon playing during a manhunt” and I nearly lost it

that and the TikToks to Britney Spears - Criminal have been the highlight of this. Tie this into the reports that Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield retracted a policy limiting anesthesia reimbursements that is supposedly correlated to the shooting… the cascading effect has been truly something of marvel

#FreeLuigi idgaf

No but seriously. Am actually howling. The meme game has been outstanding

Murder is wrong in all circumstances, but at the same time, history has shown the only way for things to change is for drastic, memorable actions like this and that utterly immoral, archaic healthcare system needs to change more than anything. Funny that whenever it's a CEO or privileged person on the receiving end, it's so black and white according to the media, imagine lower income rape and murder victims getting a fraction of this sympathy and resources.

Apparently the police have found fingerprints of Luigi Mangione "at the scene of the crime" when... looking at the video.... he didn't touch anything... something is very off with that and the conspiracy theorist in me thinks that they're going to do what they can in order to get someone arrested and sent away for it, so that they don't look like idiots. (Interestingly - like what they did with Menendez brothers after the OJ stuff!)

Also, I read that the person from McDonalds who ratted him in won't get a reward as they called 911 and not the reward hotline! Incredible.

I agree with Iz that obviously I'm not condoning the murder, but it really was just a matter of time for something like this to happen in regards to their healthcare system! Also, he apparently thought about using bombs but didn't want to potentially injure innocents surrounding them... thoughtful king!

In a country with guns and widespread gun violence and given they often screw people over with nothing to lose i am surprised this doesn’t happen more often honestly

Just in whatever social media site you most use, PC gamers like myself have been noting with approval his extensive Steam profile where he was a prolific Terraria player, fixed bugs in Civ 6 for his job and according to some newspapers, shock horror, played an "assassin" in a little known game called Among Us.

Thst is shocking!!! :o Videogames causing violence AGAIN!!! A game making you play as a KILLER perhapd?! GAGGED
