Showaddywaddy mainly revived ‘50s and ‘60s rock and roll songs, and “Under The Moon Of Love” was originally recorded in 1961. This was their only #1, but by Christmas it had been knocked off by “When A Child Is Born” by Johnny Mathis.

This delightfully quirky number is our 2nd favourite from the ‘50s. It was knocked off #1 by Conway Twitty’a “It’s Only Make Believe” which claimed the Christmas crown.

This Miley Cyrus cover was famously beaten by Rage Against The Machine to the Christmas #1, though it did climb to the top in its 2nd week on much reduced sales. I believe its 450,000+ opening week still make it the highest weekly sale at #2 this century.

This sentimental ballad was held off #1 by the double A side “Bohemian Rhapsody” / These Are The Days” released following Freddie Mercury’s death. It later reached #2 again when Diana released a version in collaboration with Westlife.

No surprise at 'Hoots Mon' being the first of my votes to drop out, still have to stan that it got a bye into the final of the vote for BuzzJack's favourite song of all time just because no one else bothered nominating anything from the 50s

Lol at Joe McElderry being this high though ~ Bless him but it was pretty naff.

This TV theme remix was a million seller with quite the chart run after leaving the Top 40. It was knocked off #1 by Christmas by the Spice Girls with “Too Much”.

Always the nearly man, Sam has had 2 #2 hits on top of coming 2nd in Eurovision. This pushed Wham! pretty close both in the official Christmas week and the post Christmas week chart.

:cheeseblock: at Teletubbies. Didn't vote for it but part of childhood nonetheless x

'You're Christmas To Me' is great as regards to very recent Christmas tracks go for me!

It’s that tune from the “just one Cornetto advert”. A million seller and Elvis’ biggest, after 8 weeks at #1 this was dethroned in Christmas week by Cliff with “I Love You”.

Well this did rather better than I expected. After “Popstars: The Rivals”, this was the single chosen by Pete Waterman for the winning “male vocal harmony group”. It was beaten by “Sound Of The Underground” for Christmas #1 and fell behind The Cheeky Girls in Week 2. Sacred Trust” was a Bee Gees cover and I can’t even remember how “After You’re Gone” goes, but some of us clearly remember it fondly.

It took them until single number 8 to have a #1, but then there was no stopping them and this was their 3rd in a row of the 12 they ended up having. However it was knocked off by Mr Blobby in Christmas week.

Was very close to voting for One True Voice as well :kink: actually do like it to some degree but completely understandable about why it's not liked too as it's also very dated in retrospect even for that year in music.

This was shaping up to be a #8 hit and was on its way out of the charts before what happened on 8 December 1980, after which it immediately leapt to #1. However it was knocked off the top for Christmas by St Winifred’s School Choir. John then had 2 more posthumous #1s at the beginning of 1981.
