Was expecting a lot more skips for these old tracks. Need to get back to work on my own show which skips way more of them!

'Naive' what a tune! 'Valerie' is also great (but The Zutons version is best)

'The Sound Of Silence' is the other non-Top 20 hit I referred to earlier.

Did 'Linger' make the YE top 100 for 1994? Can't find the requisite thread. It's a beauty anyway.

It did, got to 74 iirc

Linger only peaked at #14 but spent an eternity in the top 20, so could well have been in the 1994 top 100

Biography

With his sparse, impassioned country music, Zach Bryan is a 21st-century torch holder for three chords and the truth. Born in Japan to U.S. Navy parents in 1996, he grew up in Oologah, OK, and started writing songs as a teenager that were steeped in the diverse Red-Dirt music traditions of his home state. On leave from his own Navy service in Florida, he recorded his 2019 debut, DeAnn, named after his late mother, and established himself as a poignant lyricist and powerful singer. Two years later, those gifts earned him his Grand Ole Opry debut, a swift rise buoyed by resonant songs about love and loss that eschew country-radio tropes to view life through a clear lens. “I believe the best songs are written after the best living’s done,” Bryan told Apple Music about his 2022 triple album, American Heartbreak. It’s clear from Bryan’s body of work that he’s already lived plenty; judging from how prolific he is, he has a lot of living left to do, too. - Apple Music

Biography

As rock entered the synth era at the dawn of the ‘80s, a new guitar-slinging savior emerged from the west coast of Canada. Born in Kingston, Ontario in 1959 and raised in Ottawa, Bryan Adams settled in Vancouver during his teens, first infiltrating the scene in the late ‘70s playing in clubs and working as a studio musician. It wasn’t until his third solo album, 1983’s Cuts Like a Knife, that he became the rare Canadian artist to go platinum on both sides of the border, thanks to arena-ready stompers such as the title track and heartland-bound hits like “This Time.” With 1984’s blockbuster Reckless, he revealed the full breadth of his artistry, complementing his usual kids-wanna-rock attitude with lighter-waving power ballads (“Heaven”), dramatic slow-burn showstoppers (“Run to You”), and wistful origin-story anthems (the eternal “Summer of ‘69”). And yet Adams’ staggering ’80s success proved to be the mere warm-up for 1991’s Waking Up the Neighbours, whose centerpiece serenade, “(Everything I Do) I Do For You,” topped charts around the world. He's lived up to his song “Can’t Stop This Thing We Started,” continuing to tour the world; in 2022, he released his 16th studio album, So Happy It Hurts. Over the years, Adams’ rocker aesthetic would prove flexible enough to entertain collaborations with composer Hans Zimmer (on the score for Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron), Tina Turner (on the duet “It’s Only Love”), and many others. But at the core of his work, there remains that unmistakable raspy voice singing to you (as another hit put it) straight from the heart. - Apple Music

Biography

More than mere performer, Bruce Springsteen is the embodiment of what we think of when we think of rock ’n’ roll. Born in 1949 and raised in working-class northern New Jersey, Springsteen melds the gut thrill of early rock and soul with the poetics of the singer-songwriter movement for a sound that doesn’t just describe the triumphs and sorrows of everyday Americans but spins them into myth. It’s a feat that elevated him from working musician to something like a national hero upon his arrival. Though best known for his arena-sized anthems, Springsteen actually varies his approach quite a bit, from the sweat-soaked grandeur of the E Street Band workouts on albums such as 1975’s Born to Run to the stark Dust Bowl folk of 1982’s Nebraska, embracing the nostalgic allure of rock while integrating his sound with synthesizers and Broadway-level showmanship (the latter evident not only in his marathon, tank-emptying concerts but also in 2017’s Springsteen on Broadway run). Tonally, Springsteen is just as hard to pin down, leavening his darkest, most politicized stories—“Born In the U.S.A.,” for example—with his most uplifting music, a contrast that has made him equal parts patriot and dissident, often blurring the line between the two. Or, as he himself put it in a press conference for his 2012 album, Wrecking Ball, “I have spent my life judging the distance between American reality and the American dream.” But while Springsteen’s celebrated examinations of contemporary social issues have won him numerous awards, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Medal of Arts, the past has always weighed heavily on his imagination. Some of his most vital work of the 21st century, like 2020’s Letter to You, finds him pairing decades-old compositions with new material, managing to look backward while also boldly pressing forward. - Apple Music

Biography

Whether it’s on a videogame soundtrack, in a television advert or going viral on TikTok, London-based duo Jungle’s music is omnipresent. Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland make modern music for old souls, blending electronic, funk, pop and beyond into something eclectically fresh yet nostalgic. Jungle’s impact upon their 2013 debut was immediate: soulful, textured singles “Platoon” and “The Heat” and their choreographed videos—now a catalogue staple—earned the group a shortlisting on BBC Radio 1’s prestigious Sound of 2014 poll. Before Jungle even released their self-titled debut album in 2014, they had already hit the U.S. late-night-television circuit with breakthrough hit “Busy Earnin’”. The duo lyrically and creatively pushed themselves further on 2018’s For Ever and 2021’s Loving in Stereo, emerging with introspective yet universal songs about love and loss, healing and liberation, and for the first time inviting featured artists into their world. - Apple Music

Was expecting this one to be a bit higher! Can't say I'm big on this one sadly

nooooooo Something in the Orange skipped

thank god they skipped Bryan Adams

can't stand that song, one of the most annoying "classics"

Back on 74 is rather nice, was interesting to see the Brits still have enough of an impact to be able to give a song like this a second chart run

Quick catch up glad 360 made it my favourite from Brat

Always amazes me how some older songs get streamed for EVERMORE and newer ones just vanish off the face of the earth after the first year

Back on 74 is borderline annoying depending on my mood, thankfully sounding alright today  certainly impressive for it to be top 100 of the year, I thought it would've tailed off a lot faster!

Is that song about Trump?

kinda agree find it annoying most of the time :D

Biography

Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners build their dreamy folk rock with intimate production and arrangements that recall the natural beauty of their home state of Colorado. Formed in 2015 by a group of teenage pals in Colorado Springs, the band released their debut, 2017’s scrappy but sweet-sounding Rmcm on the day its members graduated high school. The record established a gentle roots sound, paired with sensitive, poetic lyrics, in step with groups like Dawes or fellow Coloradans The Lumineers. As the members each left for different colleges they continued to write music together over the long distances, resulting in albums Solstice (2018) and Subliming (2019), which saw the group fill their sound out into something bigger and more lush. Through the early 2020s, they pivoted to releasing a smattering of singles, offering their own take on country (2022’s hazy “Laramee”) and playing with poppier melodies (2024’s “Northstar”) while always retaining the lived-in feel that’s grown out of the members’ long-running friendships. - Apple Music

Biography

When RAYE speaks of her music, she doesn’t just talk of songs but of “stories”. And the South London singer-songwriter (born Rachel Agatha Keen in 1997) has quite the knack for writing them. Nominated for the Songwriter of the Year Ivor Novello Award in 2022, RAYE first broke through in 2014 with her star-signalling self-released debut EP, Welcome to the Winter, followed by the Stormzy-featuring Second EP two years later. A stream of singles and collaborations, including with Stefflon Don, Mr Eazi and Jax Jones, hinted at an artist who could shape-shift between musical spheres—and excel wherever she landed. But despite such successes (her name has also featured on the credits of songs by artists such as Beyoncé, Ellie Goulding, Little Mix and John Legend), RAYE felt trapped behind the scenes. In 2021—just months after the release of her chart-topping dance-pop anthem “BED” alongside Joel Corry and David Guetta—the singer-songwriter wrote on social media that she hadn’t been “allowed” to release her debut album and that she was “sick of being slept on” by her label, an allegation that sent shockwaves through the music industry. And it was then that RAYE returned to those stories, as she came to work on her long-awaited 2023 debut LP, My 21st Century Blues, as an independent artist. On it, she explores being a young woman in music and the trauma of sexual assault and substance abuse, but also the things any woman RAYE’s age might be moved to write about: climate change, relationships ending, falling in love with someone new. “This is about me telling the stories I want to tell, in the order I want to tell them, through the sonic landscape I want to tell them,” RAYE told Apple Music at the time of the album’s release. My 21st Century Blues, she added, wasn’t made with mainstream success in mind, yet that’s exactly what it brought. After the confronting “Hard Out Here.” and the made-for-repeat-listening “Black Mascara.”, she unleashed “Escapism.” featuring 070 Shake, a viral hit on both sides of the Atlantic and the biggest song of RAYE’s up to that point. It signalled, without doubt, that her time had come. “It is just the most beautiful validation,” said RAYE. “To know that you’re right to back yourself when you feel conviction and you feel passionately about something. I made this [album] battling and figuring out freedom, and I’m so excited for the artist I get to become. This has set the tone for me.” - Apple Music
