December 29, 2024Dec 29 Author Top 5 will be completed by afternoon. Remaining are Coldplay, Leona, Kelly, Fleet Foxes and The Darkness!
December 29, 2024Dec 29 Author 5. Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal / 106 points American indie band Fleet Foxes nab 106 points with 'White Winter Hymnal'. Former bassist of Cocteau Twins Simon Raymonde who was head of record label Bella Union was considering shutting the label down until he heard a demo of WWH which gave him motivation to carry it on and ultimately sign Fleet Foxes to his label off the back of it!
December 29, 2024Dec 29 Author 4. Coldplay- Christmas Lights / 132 points In fourth we have Coldplay with their festive offering from 2010 in 'Christmas Lights' which peaked at 13 in the chart. It was penned by Chris Martin in 2008 albeit still a work in progress for another year or so till it's official release and was rumored to be featured on the tracklisting for 2011 album Mylo Xyoto but that was quickly denied!
December 29, 2024Dec 29 Author 3. The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bells End) / 158 points and so we've gone with a predictable top 2  as The Darkness are third with 'Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells Ring)' which lost out to Michael Andrews and Gary Jules cover of Tears For Fears 'Mad World' in a hotly contested battle in 2003 and it was a featured year on this weeks Pick of the Pops as well!
December 29, 2024Dec 29 Author For as predictable as the top 2 is, there was 15 points between them and so in 2nd ....
December 29, 2024Dec 29 Author 2. Kelly Clarkson - Underneath The Tree / 189 points It's Kelly with her joyous 'Underneath The Tree' which charted at 30 in the first year but has not only made the top 10 for the first time a couple of weeks back but has now gained another brand new peak of 7 this week. A real strong showing but Kelly has not broken the 200 points barrier which leaves us with our number one fave..
December 29, 2024Dec 29 Author :winner: 1. Leona Lewis - One More Sleep / 204 points It's congratulations to Leona Lewis who proves to be the more popular of the 2013 Christmas hits with 'One More Sleep' collecting 204 points. Leona who won the X Factor in 2006 entered at 34 on release week before zooming into the top 3 peaking at 3 and also wins it for the UK represented artists in this too. Nowadays it does seem to be struggling somewhat swapping placing area in the chart with Kelly but it's clearly not lost love on here. Well done to Leona again!

December 29, 2024Dec 29 Author Thanks all for taking part in all these threads with Scene and myself. Been a great success. Leona would only rank about 15th or so for me oops but can't deny it's popularity. Happy with Kelly, Darkness and Coldplay in the Top 5 and Fleet Foxes track was nice as well, threw it some votes. Gabriella in 6th is great. Would've preferred Britney in the Top 10 over Kylie but aside from that a really solid top 10 on the whole!
December 29, 2024Dec 29 Ah I thought Kelly would win. They’re both excellent songs though and it’s a fab top 5. Thanks for running!
December 29, 2024Dec 29 It doesn't really surprise me that Leona won this, it does seem like the most obvious choice in fact for it's longevity and wide appeal as a British artist, but I applaud all the other finalists in this countdown and think it's a great result overall! :) Thank you Rob for hosting this, and for you and Scene's hard work in the background these last few weeks.
December 29, 2024Dec 29 Happy with Leona winning, it's my favourite of the main contenders. Great to see Glasvegas sneak into the top 10 and Fleet Foxes top 5 - the latter not really a Christmas song, but I'll take it! Thanks Rob and Scene for running this!
December 29, 2024Dec 29 Thanks for running this, happy Leona beat Kelly but both are great songs. My favs are def Darkness and Coldplay who both did well!
December 29, 2024Dec 29 Happy to see Glasvegas doing so well in this! I sent it to a BJSC Christmas spin-off back in 2015 and it did pretty well there too, so the forum showing taste once more. Thanks for running!
December 29, 2024Dec 29 Fab winner, I really love both the Kelly and Leona songs, but Leona still has the slight edge for me, as it did in 2013, as I find it to be quite a unique kind of song lyrically, I like the countdown narrative to it. It has very quickly established itself as one of my go-to top five on rotation each year. Kelly's is bit of a kitchen sink of Christmas tropes kind of affair in comparison, but it's still utterly joyful and wonderful and perhaps in 20 years when maybe kids of today see it as nostalgic, it will have the same status that Mariah has now. It seems to be getting more and more popular each year. Thanks for hosting Rob, was interesting to see the results! Great showing for Warm This Winter, that doesn't get enough streaming love. December 29, 2024Dec 29 Sorry I didn't take part in this but had a flick through the results anyway - Leona is a fine enough winner, not a big fave for me but I do prefer it to Kelly's (though that has grown on me over the years). The rest of the top 5 is great though, I don't really consider 'White Winter Hymnal' to be a Christmas song per se but it is gorgeous and would have got my top points here with Coldplay 2nd <3 Glasvegas and Sufjan Stevens were great discoveries from the BJSC Christmas spinoffs as well so cool to see them doing quite well here x
December 30, 2024Dec 30 Author We did query those that aren't technically christmas songs but by that time they had a lot of nominations so it seemed clear no one had a problem with them being included.
