Posted December 29, 2024Dec 29 James Earl Carter, arguably the USA's greatest former president (his actual presidency was less successful) has died aged 100.
December 29, 2024Dec 29 RIP, a great figure even if seemingly a lot of his greatest actions came after he was president. At least he got to live out one more election (even if it wasn't his preferred outcome :'()
December 29, 2024Dec 29 R.I.P. Jimmy Carter, former U.S. President who has passed away aged 100 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/ce98937nrqrt Edited December 29, 2024Dec 29 by Santa Mark
December 29, 2024Dec 29 Awww  What a truly incredible life that he lived, 100 years of dedication to serve his homeland, and the sheer amount of people that he assisted after leaving office is really heartwarming  There will likely never be any post-presidency that matches to Jimmy Carter's, period. He may not have been the most effective President that the US has ever seen but at least he tried to put his morals first, something that this cold-hearted political environment that we live in could do with. We've lost possibly the most genuine and kind-hearted US President that there will ever be (considering the way things are shifting atm). I think its fair to say that Jimmy embodied what I believe America strives (or strived) to be. It's also worth noting that this man was a warrior, he survived both metastatic cancer and a form of liver cancer. All that I know is that Jimmy will at least be able to finally rest at peace alongside his wife  RIP
December 30, 2024Dec 30 Sad that he passes in a world where Trump is president-elect again but he was never going to last another 4 years. RIP.
December 30, 2024Dec 30 Sad that he passes in a world where Trump is president-elect again but he was never going to last another 4 years. RIP. He said in summer that he'd just be glad to live to vote for Kamala. State funeral in DC on Thu 9th. followed by internment next to his wife in Plains, Georgia. Biden to deliver Eulogy as Jimmy requested. Wonder if Trump will go? Said nasty things about him before. Flags fly at half mast for one month so will still be down on 20th Jan. Carter having the last laugh on Trump? ;)
December 30, 2024Dec 30 What a legend Jimmy was, if only the Iranian hostage incident had to happen so close to election 80! Reegan and the right seemed to fall into the best of luck with things like that and even in Britain with the winter of discontent before the June 79 election. US politics rarely gets a southern Baptist to be democrat leader anymore usually the opposite in 2024, but America did seem a lot more United back then on many issues regarding economics (not obv race)!

December 30, 2024Dec 30 RIP Jimmy Carter. The current oldest living former President is now Donald Trump.
December 30, 2024Dec 30 RIP Jimmy Carter. The current oldest living former President is now Donald Trump. Soon to be replaced with Joe Biden! Can't believe that for all the things Trump (and his supporters) have said about Biden being told old to be president, there is less than 4 years between the two!

That was clearly coordinated, presumably with discussions started before Carter's end.

January 7Jan 7 Carter's state funeral on Thursday will now be attended by Prince Edward. First I read Anne then William. Wonder if security concerns after New Orleans have made them pull William out. Huge security operation with a no fly zone, no parking anywhere near the Capitol and Cathedral and processional route. 1000 heavily armed Secret Service agents as well as FBI, National Guard and DC police. Every living President, yes including Trump, in one place, Biden and Harris too. A senior Cabinet member will be at a secure location under heavy SS guard as a "designated survivor" From 1.30pm BBC News channel tomorrow. Assume Sky News will show it too. January 9Jan 9 Watched most of the funeral today. Some good tributes and Biden even made it through his eulogy. Just 11 days left now. Interesting to see what the reactions to Trump were. Well Trump and Pence surprisingly shook hands but Karen Pence did not stand, had a sour face and refused any eye contact with him whatsoever. LOL. So did Hillary. Still a sore loser but will be at Bill's side on 20th and at the dinner afterwards. Bit awkward if she feels like that. I wouldn't go but she's only going for Bill's sake and a former first lady apparently and not out of any respect for Trump whatsoever. She didn't mind losing, just not to him and reportedly hates him with a vengeance. Come on Hillary. you lost, get over it now.
