But where would Ed be on Spotify if numbers were not so low? Also if so many songs weren’t on ACR he would be lower in the official charts.

I'll ask down my local tonight why ordinary streams are down

Not to pile on more, but do think in general it's a folly to only stick to the subsidiary chart that best presents the narrative. Last week the song was #5 on the official streaming chart but only #14

If numbers were higher he would likewise probably be on higher numbers too.

Whatever way you want to look at it for Ed to be down at 22 after 17 days is not great. Shape of you was still doing 900k+ after 17 days

I and at little are looking at it compared to the market 🤭 and as noted above lot of the top 10 is old songs 🤣

Plus countless times its been mentioned he doing better on other platforms 🤷 and 3 weeks top 3 from isn't bad when you look at the market 😉

Comparing to one of the biggest hits of all time is going to make almost any other song look worse off.

This discourse is tiring me out because I don't think we're actually getting anywhere - numbers can be spun any which way, even if you're #3 in the official chart seemingly.

I’m not Ed’s biggest fan but I echo the comments above about how ridiculous it is to label it a flop when it’s stable in the top 3? Yes the numbers aren’t that great but neither are any of the rest across the board? Just because he isn’t doing huge numbers like previous singles have done doesn’t make it a flop lol, stable in the top 3 is the opposite. Some people are just clutching at straws

I’ve also been trying to remember the last British single to spend three weeks in the top three from debut (assuming Ed makes it three on Friday). Was it Sprinter?

Whatever it is, it’s an extremely rare feat anyway these days when British acts are having a much harder time in the charts, and certainly the complete opposite of a flop in the modern charts.

Unless you count J Hus feat. Drake - Who Told You (as the featured artist is of course Canadian) which opened with 3 weeks at #2 starting the week after 'Sprinter'.

‘All I Ever Asked’ was the standout when I first listened to Rachel’s album this time last year so great to see it gaining traction.

Is it the playlisting there or random?

Amazon has playlists like the others. They tend to have be more quick to update with newer music/entries than spotify playlists. There's also an element of Alexa I would gather too. From what I can see, Amazon makes up ~25% of the market 2nd to spotify with ~45%. Apple has ~20% market share. Youtube Music also now has ~5% of the UK streaming market which is interesting. I think the growth of Youtube Music may explain why spotify is not the be all end all as it once was. Spotify I think had as much as 60% market share for subscriber previously. So it's slowly been coming down over the year. Apple + Amazon + Youtube Music are now a bigger market share than spotify. This is all based on subscribers though. Spotify likely has a higher number of free users still.

And if we going with the shape of you comparison, let's play fair then,

I'd love to be proven wrong but I dont think Alex will even be relevant this long after "his biggest hit ever" to even be having thos sort of conversation in the first place

Let’s compare Ariana she was doing multiple 1M plus days in the UK and Twilight Zone is out the top 50 already (4 weeks if that)

I think I said this before but we can’t keep branding artists a flop just because they haven’t reached the numbers they were doing at their peak!

Ed being at 3 officially is nowhere close to a flop, maybe we thought he’d be higher than 22 on Spotify but you only have to look at the Spotify chart to see the same HUGE songs sticking around forever and anything new seems to struggle.

I believe it's the next single in Australia. Hope they push it here soon and release a music video!

But nobody is saying Ed is a flop

You Ed stans are twisting peoples words

Its an underperformance considering who he is

Barely 200K daily on Spotify

But it is how it is, without tiktok virality

The GP doesnt care who you are

The old tiktok hits from 6 mo-1 year ago are still doing 50% more than Azizam

I don't even like Ed but this "discussion" is so tiring. Even though he is not as popular as he once was, he is still doing decent numbers in his home country which is what this thread is about. Globally though, it is clearly an underperformance, no matter how you look at it.

But all he needs to do is release something as Amazon exclusive next Christmas and he'll get an easy #1 again.

Ed released a new version this week and a video for the song so anything less than 40k for the week would be pretty underwhelming

Your basically the biggest advocate of trying to prove it's a flop 🤣

Soa again a different rule for Ed is basically what your saying , artists have released loads of remixes and they made very little difference

Heck the wedding version of ordinary didn't exactly do loads and loads 🤣
