well it is dumb to buy the same record with a printed autograph and then a few more same versions of the same album. If you think about it its the same people buying the same record in different versions she`s released over the course of a year. I never said she is untalented, just not as talented as her marketing skills.

I dunno I think there's more nuance to the situation than this. For one, it's a folly to just assume it's mostly the same buyers each time, what's the evidence or basis for that? For those who do overlap, what's their financial situation, or the purpose of their purchase? I think the limited release helps make these sorts of things collectors items that appreciate in value, in which case it's a wise investment. Even so, maybe they spark joy and that supersedes any financial value. I've personally got two very expensive things either side of me right now. One is an full set of an out-of-print manga (whose value has gone up thousands since I've acquired it), and the other is a piece of memorabilia for my favourite football team (whose value will diminish incredibly over time), but the latter makes me much happier. I suspect that very, very few Taylor Swift fans have spent as much money supporting her as I have supporting the Brissie Lions.

I'll admit that I've spoken before about my concern with the whole relationship. It's quite probable that if there are compulsive collectors, that many of them are neurodivergent and possibly having their wealth abused, by constantly upping the stakes of what is a must-buy. I don't think this makes them dumb, just that they're potentially exploited. I don't want to stake the claim fully though because I haven't seen any studies done on this phenomenon, just some tangential cases relating to similar things, be they predatory monetary mechanics in video games, gacha or otherwise, and of course the perennial pox of pokies. I do think this sort of release pattern is potentially predatory, but it warrants more discussion than a glib dismissal. Problem is that the more pressing concern for most is that such-and-such is ruining the charts and it's the fault of their fans enabling it. There's no empathy shown when the relevant parties are made to be anonymous evil henchmen.

Not ANOTHER edition of Tortured Poets. Seriously. 🙃

  • What I’m very very against is products ordered in previous weeks being saved up and dispatched when the label most wants the chart impact. I’m not talking about pre-orders for something not yet releas

  • Saying that an artist you don't like is untalented and has dumb fans doesn't make you look smart, just btw.

I’m sure they’re are others too but it’s hardly uncommon for artists to have multiple variants and bundled items it’s just Taylor has a way bigger fanbase.

I don’t see the hate personally she wants to dominate the charts / break records etc where’s the issue?

You’re also assuming the same fans are buying all versions, she’s already had and sold over 50k signed art card versions of this album so it’s not like this is a new version.

I agree its not a new version and its definitely not new fans that buy the same signed version a year later... When it comes to records and thats not only for Taylor, i cant compare an artist that sold millions and stayed at no1 with a single album version to any artist that has released too many versions of the same album.

All the variants have been sold by her webstore so it's obviously 95% the same people all the time. I don't think random people are like "oh her website has this album available again, need to buy it before it's sold out" 😀

I have never even visited her webstore and I consider myself as a casual Taylor fan (went to see Eras tour etc).

Doesn't necessarily mean it's the same people, just a portion of the same subset of Taylor Swift fans, I'm sure she has more diehards than there are copies sold of any particular variant, so there could be plenty of people who opt for one and that does it, or alternatively if they sell out so quickly, it becomes a luck of the draw for who in particular gets each one.

Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt that there's overlap, but I'm not going to make assumptions on the proportion without convincing evidence.

but at least i am more talented, me and another 1000 singers out there....we just luck marketing skills and brainless funs like you... :)

Again saying your talented is just another opinion 🤷

But said this earlier: it's weird that her label has never tried to sell Speak Now, Red or even Folklore (= her good albums) like this. There is some weird obsession over TTPD but I don't understand why.

The era even ended after 'Broken Heart' so it's not like it's still being promoted or anything.

Why would a label actively try to sell old albums? Surely it makes sense that they'd concentrate their efforts on the latest release?

In that past, not necessarily just now, like they have never put this much effort in before, and I love TTPD

(I have also never purchased a single copy and my spotify wrapped has been very TS the last 2 years)

I’d call myself a massive Taylor Swift fan, I listen to her almost daily, went to Warsaw just to see her, I have 8 copies of ttpd on cd and one vinyl, but when I saw it was the signed one again I didn’t think to buy it as I already have a signed copy! So sure some will be bought by the same person again but I don’t think it’d fair to say 95% of the purchases are the same people again. Plenty of people missed on signed ones last time and now have the chance!

But you're kinda arguing against your own point by admitting that you have 8 copies of the same album on CD 🤣

I was thinking the same but didn't wanna be the one 😅

I guess we all agree that you don't need to buy the 9th lol. With 8 copies you're probably in a small minority already.

I am a huge Gaga fan (well duh), but my only album with multiple copies is BTW (cd and a vinyl). This need to buy several copies is relatively new phenomenon I think and it just feels bizarre to me. Earlier, the collectors were trying to find and buy the whole discographies but these days it's about how many copies of ONE release people own.

Looks like the OCC have two 'versions' of the singles chart update, dated [w/e] 27/04/2025 and 28/04/2025. Open any song's chart run, click on its position for the latter date, and it should display the full top 100.

Sorry I should’ve clarified above, I have the 4 deluxe cds, then the 3 alternate ones with poster and the standard one signed. My point was since I already have them plus a signed one I didn’t have the incentive to get another signed one! And I’d imagine it’s similar for most, if they already have there’s no incentive to get another! My point was against the person saying it’s the same people buying these recent ones who already got them!

I guess as soon as you buy more than one it’s no longer about the music.

Not that I’m criticising anyone who does it at all. I totally get wanting to have a complete physical collection and without multi-buying and shiny tangible products there wouldn’t be much of an albums market left.
