Callum has already explained in the thread - it isn't the final table that mattered, each act was already drawn against a specific opponent and all they had to do was beat the points scored by that opponent. He's only posted the table above so that people can see how it would have looked and so that we can see the points each act got.

Pet Shop Boys were up against Sasami in their battle, and they got more points so go through whilst Sasami went out. They were lucky that they weren't battling an act that finished higher than them.

Elton John however was unlucky because he would have gone through on points alone, but in his battle he was up against Avril Lavigne who scored more than he did, so he was eliminated.
