All I think of when I see the cover is one comment saying "I'd have had him pull her hair tighter". 😂

Having seen her on tour, I agree that everything she does is very tongue-n-cheek, but I can understand the opposing view.

I mean, if her marketing team wanted people to get talking about this album QUICKLY, then they’ve done a great job. My Twitter feed is just flooded with discourse about the album cover. The thing is

Well the parents were in uproar when they took their little darlings to the SNS tour i cant wait for their responses to this 🤭

Did they not watch her at The Brits?

Surely parents have some idea of what they are going to see with their kids?

The way I see it, if you cant even listen to the latest album of an artist you take your kids to see, you lose all right to complain about the content of that artist's work.

The fact the album cover has caused such a ruckus in 2025 has me howling, it’s so Vanilla. I’d get the uproar if she looked uncomfortable or was fighting back, but nahh, some of us like it a little rough every now and then… SUPRISE!! Zaddy can pull my f*cking hair from time to time and I be showing him who’s mans best friend. Duhh. Not that he exists, but you know, one can dream.

Track 1, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 12: Sabrina Carpenter, Jack Antonoff & Amy Allen

Track 2, 7, 10: Sabrina Carpenter, John Ryan, Julian Bunetta & Amy Allen

Track 3, 5: Sabrina Carpenter, John Ryan, Ian Kirkpatrick & Amy Allen

It’s also such backwards thinking and very heavy on the “kink shaming” to think someone can’t be a feminist because they’re submissive for their man in the bedroom.

So, even if you don’t interpret it as tongue in cheek, to see so many people say it’s anti-feminist tells me that people are still in this headspace that feminism means… not being sexy and not wearing little clothing because that could attract the male gaze? How archaic.

Excited for songs 2, 3, 5, 7 and 10 to be my favourites 😭

The discourse online has been insane I made the mistake of briefly browsing the quotes of one post and the algorithm fed me too much since. Sabrina is not some genius playing chess moves with political statement. Shes a pop star and sex sells it’s that simple I fear. You’re not going to get a coherent feminist ideology she’s just having fun

Conversely, 'happening to like' exactly what is the common sex fantasy men are sold and 'coincidentally' as part of your album promo plastering that image everywhere, but its ok because it's tongue in cheek and empowering, is functionally identical in terms of the visual message that women are objects for men's fantasies.

That's why I say it's irresponsible. The album cover isn't going to be sold alongside her commentary, it's going to be on billboards around the world by itself.

The discourse has been insane but I also think this is a bit shallow thinking as well. Even bigger part of her artistry than her sexual music is criticizing the men she dates and herself for continuing to fall for these men. It is a major theme in Taste, Please Please Please, Sharpest Tool, Dumb & Poetic, Slim Pickins, Lie to Girls, and Bad Reviews. And thats just from short n sweet. More importantly, it is the major theme of Manchild and the entire story of the music video. I interpret the cover as an extension of that, critical of men for treating her terribly and critical of herself for falling for these men. She's Man's Best Friend because she tolerates their BS.

I hate though that a pop star can have this image, we mostly agree that at minimum the image will partially be a statement of some kind beyond what it is at face value, and we'll criticize her across all of social media for days without breaks, because out of context men might take it to be a sexual fantasy thing.

Meanwhile, a male rapper can make a worse cover completely at face value and rap about sexual assault and everything else degrading to women with 0 nuance and go number 1 everywhere and there's 1/10th of the discourse.

It's like, are we really doing this in the name of making sure women are being sent the right message or are we doing this to bludgeon 1 woman with the weight of all women in the world? Cause the only conclusion I can make with all of this is that it is every woman's responsibility to make sure men dont objectify women while men are left to freely objectify women as we argue.

For what it's worth I would (and likely have on this site) criticized both.

Agree with your view that to be selectively critical is unfair.

Irresponsible and tone deaf. She could have been biting his leg, she could have been the one standing, or basically anythin else. It's not a good cover.

Actually you know what, the more I think about the conversation around the cover, the angrier ive gotten. Sabrina is a grown adult who by all accounts has complete control of everything she does. She consented in 1 photoshoot to look a certain way. That doesnt mean she consents to be treated that way in any other circumstance. It also doesnt mean she endorses women being treated like objects. If today a man treats a woman worse because of this photoshoot, I'd like to think everyone would say "what kind of excuse is that?" And a step further than that, if a husband and wife were into this kind of stuff but the husband stepped out of his wife's boundaries, I'd like to think every reasonable person would say that he deserves to be punished regardless of what she consented to prior to that or how "objectified" she made herself. And we haven't even gotten into the fact that there is probably something deeper in the meaning.

I'm disgusted to live in a world where we lay responsibility to not objectify at the feet of women when we can't even teach men that consent is situational and conditional. Women have to consider every aspect of how a man might take what theyre doing, and then we accept how men won't consider anything but the face value of a photo they see before they act. That to me is a million times more misogynistic than the worst reasonable interpretation you can give about the cover art.

And i dont even like the cover.

Taking the cover at face value, I don’t like it. But at least it is creating a mainstream conversation, and tbh people will be mad about every little thing if it’s done by a woman so I see no point in getting upset on any side of the argument.

Sabrina’s public image has never been a damsel in distress virgin so it’s very perplexing people are not capable of reading between the lines… and it couldn’t have been spelt out easier. Just yet another excuse to kink shame and project your own insecurities with a strong taste of misogyny into the www void. It’s tiring.
