I waited until I listen to the album in the cinema and I love it. The fate of ophelia, life of a shown girl, elizabeth taylor and Actually Romantic are my favourites.

Taylor has broken the record for the most-streamed album in a single day in 2025 on Spotify with “The Life of a Showgirl”.

I agree it's growing on me to! I think it was the initial shock of it not being what I thought.

I feel a lot of the fans are sad this doesn’t have those 6 minute long, endless, rant-like ballads…

Took a few listens but Im really enjoying this, yes its hardly a flawless masterpiece but I do feel some of the critics are being a bit harsh with their reviews

ok after about 7 listens I think I’ve been able to make a good decision and ranking! Apologies if it formats strange me and my friends were comparing so I’ve copied and pasted the ranking I sent to them 🤣🤣

Ok divas my ranking is done and unlike previous times this was quite easy:
1. The Fate of Ophelia - so slick and catchy, perfect lead single choice. Video is so good too I saw it in the cinema thing but it’s out on Sunday on YouTube
2. opalite - such a banger and ear worm
3. Elizabeth Taylor - I love this one, the chorus is so strong and I love the lyrics comparing her life to Elizabeth Taylor’s
4. father figure - I was a bit gagged at first but I am interpreting this to be about Scott borchetta (the director of big machine records who signed her when she was 15, and then proceeded to sell her masters to scooter Braun)
5. ruin the friendship - not what I was expecting, but super cute. It’s about the guy she sings forever winter about which is quite tragic cos he killed himself :(
6. The life of a showgirl - I think this is super fun, I was a bit disappointed cos this was what I was expecting for the album… and it’s the only song that sounds like it. Sabrina sounds great too, and I love the eras tour sounds in the outro
7. wish list - ok the first 6 are strong, but this is where it starts to diminish in quality imo. This is fine, I do find if a bit chiche and the writing is a bit cheesy but that chorus is really fun
8. honey - again some cheesy lyrics but I do like it, very catchy
9. actually romantic - I was honestly gagged from that first line and not in a good way. This is very tone deaf. I don’t know what has gone on behind the scenes but to the general public this song is a direct response to sympathy is a knife, in which Charli sings about not comparing and how she couldn’t even be her if she tried, so to respond to someone singing about their insecurities calling them a coke head and a chihuahua is a bit insane. It’s a shame cos sonically I love this but I can’t get past the almost trying to hard clap back lyrics.
10. cancelled! - I fear she was trying to make another who’s afraid of little old me except this one doesn’t sound satirical, again very on the nose lyrics that come across a bit tone deaf, and the dramatic Disney villain sound was successfully achieved on who’s afraid of little old me so we didn’t need to try (and fail ) to do it again imo
11. elders daughter - I wishhhhh the bridge was its own song cos the bridge is so good but the other lyrics are just so jarring. The first verse especially. Also she sings about haters, falling off a trampoline, what does this have to do with eldesr daughter 😭I am struggling to hear the idea in the song itself. nd the chorus is one of her worst ever - I’m not a bad bitch and this isn’t savage like seriously this is meant to be the emotional heart breaking ballad
12. and finally wood. Never in my life did I think I’d hear Taylor say dicknotized and yet here we are. I fear this is already growing on me but for now I can’t get past the fact she has a song about his “redwood tree” being the key to unlock her thighs like Jesus girl we get it hour having good sex!! Like trust me I love my girls singing about their sex lives like I’m happy for you and #feminism but this one was so cringey to listen to 😭😭😭

The 1st half is for sure the strongest. Not sure why we dropped off after and only Sabrina brought us back at the end but okay

Definetly not for me. Because the lyricism is so narccistic, hollow and just poorly written. It's so wildly out of touch - especially Cancelled, Eldest Daughter and Actually Romantic.

It's capitalism pop at it's worst. I will say I do really like the lead single and the production is interesting in places but overall this is easily her worst album to date. I can't actually believe this is the same person who made folklore, 1989 and Red....even Midnights! What happened?!?

She sticks up for herself once on an album and she the worst thing ever 🤣🤣 and as much as i am a fan of both her and Charli xcx the amount of people acting like shes whiter than white (charli that is) is actually comical

It's funny too because I don't actually think this is a direct response to Charli's song either, it's in response to things she has (clearly) been told about what Charli has said about Taylor away behind closed doors ("Sympathy is a knife" in public but "Boring Barbie" in private...). Being glad someone got "ghosted" is also legit nasty work too, imo (ghosting is toxic and uncalled for). Taylor has a right (and is allowed) to respond how she wants to respond. Just like Charli can respond how she wants to respond. Also didn't Charli literally set one of her best friends up with Scratty like RIGHT after? (Idk that lore too much (found this out today) but wouldn't surprise me if that was partly why Taylor responded too)

Anyway... this album is growing on me more and more. Still don't really care for my bottom 4 right now, but I'm loving my favourites. 'Ruin The Friendship' is sooo good! Deserves more appreciation!

That's not the problem I or many others have? We don't know what has gone on behind the scenes but the lyrics are so lazy and not even witty or clever. For someone who is capable of so much great she has churned out such lazy lyrics.

Wasn't aimed at you but the toxic fandoms seeing it everywhere 🤣

I mean.....Taylor arguably has the most toxic fandom of them all so 🥲 I hardly feel bad. Completely unwilling to hear any criticism, similar level to Nicki Minaj. Well the die hard fans anyway, which I will just never ever understand - it's okay to critique your faves!

(Not aimed at you or anyone in here btw)

Idk tbh. I’d definitely say Charli’s fans are just as abhorrent and vile (that’s irl too not just online). My friend who loves Charli and has been to several tours of hers say that her fans got worse the bigger she got.

But I think Barbz are definitely bottom of the barrell. Arianators are right towards the bottom with (specifically post-Folklore) Swifties, Monsters, Beyhive and Charli’s stans (but this is a convo for a different topic altogether lol)

I think this is why I like Buzzjack tbh. We have super fans/stans but I don’t think any of us (well kost of us anyway aha) are particularly nasty defending our faves etc..

I don't doubt it! I haven't seen as much of Charlis fanbase, this is no shade to her, probably coz it's not as prevalent or as big as the likes of Taylor and Nicki id imagine.

I think complete and utter standom of any artist is so so weird. I can admit all of my faves haven't really always done the correct thing or put out music to the best of their ability. I'm not even a die hard Charli fan even though I absolutely adore Brat, I don't doubt she has a mean girl streak as seen with her comment about girls bathrooms and her treatment of Rina being questionable. I don't blame Taylor for hitting back if she's been hurt, I just think the lazy lyrics don't help her case.
