Record of the Decade: 2015-2024

It's about time for Record of the Decade! The annual competition to find Buzzjack's most loved song of the past ten years.

Firstly let me say a big thanks to ElectroBoy who has assisted with the running of this with me for the last five years. Alas life gets in the way and he will be stepping down this year.

To keep this grand tradition going I am happy to do all the Excel wizardry however I'm not going to have the time to also come up with decent results commentary. So if anyone reading this would like to volunteer to assist with this please let me know otherwise it will be a fairly bare-bones affair on that front.

For anyone who is new here here is how the nominations process works.

This first round, we just want all nominations that are missing from the current lineup that you think you should be in. You get 30 nominations, and can spread them out however you want, but we recommend 3 per year to keep it even and we won't allow any more than 7 for any one year or from any one person.

Anything can be nominated, obscure tracks, album tracks, but hits that aren't in the list are the best options for actually getting other people to point them. But by all means try that BJSC hit or a cult classic, I'd love to see some new faces among the successful songs. As long as it was released in the last ten years, it's fine (but no nominating any 2025 songs please). A song only needs to be nominated once to get through. You can nominate anything but it may be useful to try and predict what other people like because as much as we love individuality, a song isn't going to make an impact in the yearly rounds with only one person's votes.

Please try and police yourself which year a song is supposed to go in, We will check if it looks suspicious. As a general rule songs that took off commercially years after release (Pink Pony Club etc.) belong to the year of release not the year of commercial peak. "Taylor's Versions" and the like also belong to the year of first release not the year of the re-recording or remix.

The top 40 songs from each year are automatically qualified to save people's nominations for the most popular songs. For 2024, the top 40 songs from the Buzzjack EOY Multichart form the auto-qualifiers. They will be listed in the post below. We will also add nominated tracks to this post, so Ctrl + F before nominating, and also try and read the nomination posts just above you in case I haven't gotten around to updating the first post yet.

(Yes I am arbitrarily changing it to 40 this year it's always bothered me somewhat that it's been 35 soz traditionalists)

((excepting 2022/23/24 - Last Dinner Party 'Nothing Matters' finished in the Multichart top 40 for 2024, but is a 2023 song (having competed for the 2023 round last year), so 2023 has earned itself an extra autoqualifier and 2024 one fewer - likewise Djo 'End of Beginning' finished in the Multichart top 40 for 2024, but was released in 2022))

I will open the first round (2015) on Sunday, you have until then to nominate for 2015. You can wait for future weeks to nominate for later years or do it all in one hit.

there’s no lower limit for nominations you don’t need to use all 30
