Posted August 28Aug 28 The much anticipated film of Richard Osman's The Thursday Murder Club is now available on Netflix. It has received fairly lukewarm reviews so far. I enjoyed the book, but it was never going to win any awards. The same applies to the film. It's good fun, but it won't win any Oscars. For me, Celia Imrie as Joyce is the best casting. She is truly wonderful.
August 28Aug 28 We watched it this evening. I haven’t read the books but I can see why they would be popular. It was okay in a Sunday teatime kinda way, would have been disappointing if I’d paid to see it at the cinema though. Agree that Celia Imrie was the best thing about it.
Friday at 14:195 days Absolutely love the books, the movie on the other n hand not so much.Must admit I’m disappointed.
Sunday at 17:383 days I also wish I could enjoy this more. I love the books and Helen and Celia are very well cast. Nice to see Naomi Ackie still getting roles too. But Ron and Ibrahim I feel were miscast. The latter in particular just didn’t seem to radiate the character we get in the books.I don’t mind when films leave things out because needs must but when they change the plot completely it gets irritating. It was mostly faithful but a key detail leaves me wondering how they could work around it if they get the go ahead for a sequel.
