Posted August 28Aug 28 The much anticipated film of Richard Osman's The Thursday Murder Club is now available on Netflix. It has received fairly lukewarm reviews so far. I enjoyed the book, but it was never going to win any awards. The same applies to the film. It's good fun, but it won't win any Oscars. For me, Celia Imrie as Joyce is the best casting. She is truly wonderful.
August 28Aug 28 We watched it this evening. I haven’t read the books but I can see why they would be popular. It was okay in a Sunday teatime kinda way, would have been disappointing if I’d paid to see it at the cinema though. Agree that Celia Imrie was the best thing about it.
August 29Aug 29 Absolutely love the books, the movie on the other n hand not so much.Must admit I’m disappointed.
August 31Aug 31 I also wish I could enjoy this more. I love the books and Helen and Celia are very well cast. Nice to see Naomi Ackie still getting roles too. But Ron and Ibrahim I feel were miscast. The latter in particular just didn’t seem to radiate the character we get in the books.I don’t mind when films leave things out because needs must but when they change the plot completely it gets irritating. It was mostly faithful but a key detail leaves me wondering how they could work around it if they get the go ahead for a sequel.

Tuesday at 23:574 days I’ve watched it again a few times now and I’m coming around to it.After initially being disappointed I’ve really started to enjoy it for what it is.
Wednesday at 19:324 days I have not read the book, is it part of a series? I loved the film thought it was a great Sunday film, easy watching and entertaining. I would definitely read the book series if it is one, not sure I'd read if it's a stand alone book though as I know how it ends now.
Thursday at 14:053 days I didn't like the book gave up on it, adored the movie though. It is a series so I hope the movies become a series too.

Friday at 16:062 days Funnily enough I realised by watching the film after reading the book that i had completely misunderstood the setting as described in the book.I thought 'retirement village' was a small town where a lot of old people happened to live, not a fancy old folks' home.
