I really don't agree with this.

She has a big fanbase, the song is played on rotation on R1 everyday and it's crickets. It's simply a bad song.

I’m honestly surprised at the criticism the fans have for this song. It is a slightly watered down Angel Of My Dreams copy but it’s still a great pop song.

I think the drop is probably a bit dated or too Christmas/novelty sounding and there’s some cringey lyrics but I don’t think Radio 1 playlisting does anything anyway as they play tons of indie tracks that never chart - see Gossip.

Yes, but you also have to consider every other Jade song except Angel has been "crickets" after week one.

*Edit, except FUFN which got a few weeks in the very lower resches.

Is this not fairly widely regarded as her best since 'AOMD' (and maybe on a par with 'Plastic Box')? To say it's "crickets" just feels a bit bizarre... Without the Christmas songs, it would have easily been another Top 50 hit, at the very least

I like Church but this kind of pop that she wants to do is not where pop music is right now.

It is however what pop fans love so she's probably right in the long run to go for it. She wants to be a fanbase artist.

If she really wants to at some point in the future she has the voice to release something Olivia Dean/Raye esque

Jade has clearly solidified herself as a solo artist though? I don't see why she should be chasing current trends in pop just to try and get a hit. She's got her own formula that screams JADE. Sure the songs need to do reasonably well in order to sell tours / albums but Church was the lead from the deluxe and when you look as deluxe releases it's very rare any songs become hits (Unless there's a viral moment) or the artist is a big global star.

Church is on nearly 5M streams so I'd say that's pretty decent for a deluxe lead where predominately her streams come from just the UK.

The real moment will be the next lead single I have such a good feeling about it. She hits the mark every time she'll be wanting a BIG moment to launch JADE 2 and she'll give it to us!

She's got her upcoming international tours and tours have been hyping up so many artists recently so who knows where it can take Jade.

Just popping in on page 9 of this thread to say that this is such a big song and I love it. It's so JADE. I feel like it might have charted somewhere if it was released in January, rather than December, but perhaps that's just wishful thinking.

I think this benefits people in supporting slots for huge artists more than the smaller acts (and even then, they're acts with some kind of fanbase beforehand - just getting their flowers late etc..) Sabrina benefitted massively from supporting Taylor ('Espresso' came right after she opened the ERAs tour), Zara (opening for Tate) and I'm pretty sure I'm missing someone else - maybe it was Gracie for Taylor? Icr

But I really think this era was about her building a brand (which she has succeeded), getting the critics on board (which she has succeeded) and I think she will open for a major star herself at some point in the next year or so.

I just think the timing of the US tour is interesting... it's around "Awards szn" in the US (I'm fairly sure she'll be in the US on 1st Feb and I can see her being invited to attend the GRAMMYs which is one day before her tour starts!), hearing that big American music industry insiders think she has potential to be huge and "an icon in waiting"... things just point to her blowing up at some point.

****I'm not saying she is definitely attending the GRAMMYs ofc, just that the timing is interesting to me.

Potentially opening for Chappell on a global scale? I could definitely see this happening.

I'm still itching to hear the Kesha collab :(

Is that not 'BOY CRAZY.'? That's been out ages!

There was a rumour that kesha was appearing on a jade track as well as Jade appearing on a kesha track aka boy crazy

They did a swap Jade featured on Boy Crazy and Kesha was on a remix of a Jade song....

It’s gradually been doing ok/climbing streams too, right?

I really hope this can suddenly blow up! It deserves it’s moment!
