Official Charts Report

With the Official Christmas Number 1 results still fresh in our memory, this week’s Official Chart First Look sees WHAM! and Last Christmas potentially back on top to clinch the final Number 1 of 2025.

After Kylie Minogue and XMAS nabbed the most coveted chart award of the year on Friday, WHAM! are looking to put that disappointment behind them and earn Last Christmas its 12th week at the top in all.

This means your Official 2025 Christmas Number 1 song XMAS begins this week at Number 2. Kylie broke all sorts of records on Friday, including the first female solo artist to claim Number 1 singles across four different decades, marking an historic day in chart history.

The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s Fairytale of New York may finish the year in the Top 5, tracking to move one position from last week (5).

Elsewhere in the Top 10, Elton John’s festive favourite Step Into Christmas is on course to rise three (6), Shakin’ Stevens former chart topper Merry Christmas Everyone, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year is currently up four (7), while Gwen Stefani and Shake the Snow Globe could jump an incredible 50 places to pierce the Top 10 for the very first time (10).

Driving Home for Christmas from Chris Rea looks to make its move towards the Top 10, aiming to scale an impressive 17 spots (13).

The Christmas enigma that is Michael Bublé could find It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas break the Top 20 (20).

After beating its personal best chart position on Friday, Nat King Cole and The Christmas Song is set to break that accolade once more, possibly ascending eight places to a new peak (23).

Finally, the holiday hits which may enter the Top 40 this week include:

Merry Christmas – Ed Sheeran & Elton John (30) (up nine places)

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas – Perry Como (36) (up 13 places) (new peak)

Mistletoe – Justin Bieber (37) (up five places)

White Christmas – Bing Crosby (39) (up nine places)

Remains to be seen whether we'll get any info on Wednesday but Sunday and Monday should be as normal!

If 'Last Christmas' returns to #1 for a 12th week, we'd end the year with there having been at least one #1 of every number of weeks from 1 to 16 (as well as 'I Believe' with 18).

So if there are soon to be radical rule changes which prevent it from returning to #1, that would be the ideal point for it to go out.

I wish we were having a first look next Sunday ( after the Christmas clearout ) instead of tomorrow which will just be full of Christmas songs again,

With Christmas falling on a Thursday and Boxing Day falling on Friday and then the weekend which is essentially just extending the Christmas break into a four-day run, the week after Christmas is likely to still be full of festive songs. I don't think we'll get the tumble until the chart for first week of the New Year.

FONY will most likely be played on both radio 1 and 2 tomorrow around the same time as tomorrow’s POTP is going back to 1987 where they were Christmas number 2. It will also be making a POTP appearance on 4th January when they’re going back to 2006 but I expect it to be skipped on that one

Kylie still selling some nice physicals on Amazon, probably including downloads she will be 1k+

She is 3 on Amazon Music and her video is doing well on Youtube.

I think she may well be top 3 on Sunday's first look.

Usually this is the week Amazon go hardest for their festive tracks but I wonder will they still do that since Kylie made the gop spot last week? I imagine she’ll probably still do well, I’m expecting a top 3 finish but doubtful she’ll stay at the top ?

Kylie for that second week at no 1!! She has had too many spending one week at no 1.

I seriously doubt people will still be streaming Christmas songs on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th.

By the way - looking ahead - next year's Christmas number 1 will be revealed on Christmas Day itself !!

Wham! were #10 on Spotify on Friday 27th last year which was a normal working day so I think they will

Some people still do stream Christmas songs after Christmas Day. Christmas Day is actually the first day of Christmas, and it ends on 5th January. In countries like Armenia (which is the oldest Christian country in the world, having adopted the religion over 1,700 years ago), they celebrate Christmas on 6th January and not 25th December.
