I probably should have voted for Mr. President basil

But I prefer faster, synthier 90s dance than that!

Blancmange - Don't Tell Me is a good synth track but the chorus is a bit too Talking Heads influenced for me.

Cast should have a bigger pointer in the #9s rate.

The Mabel track is quite nice but I prefer her other hits including fellow #8 hit 'Mad Love' (how did it not get any points here?!)

  • The cut off point has been reached! It's the same points score as last year. 101 singles had a points total greater than 61 points. There were two on 62 points so I've allowed them both through rathe

VOTING HAS NOW CLOSED Thanks to the 40 people who voted. The results will start this evening.

  • Having a slice of toast while watching the evening news in honour. “I Hear You Now” was a gorgeous discovery at the 80s hit sessions, but I couldn’t quite fit it into my votes.

Cast had some bangers and Sandstorm is up there. Though my favourite came and went in last year's #7 rate (Live The Dream)

Can't believe Walk This Way didn't go through!

I was a MASSIVE Pulp fan 1993 onwards, seen them live so many times. Met up with my Pulp pen pal at the V96 festival to watch them together. We were dancing and chatting then they said they were playing a new song and ‘Help the aged’ started. We both pissed ourselves laughing thinking it was an improvised joke song and then the longer it went on it became less funny when we realised it was genuine. I still thought ‘oh it might just be an album track or b-side’ but no!

glad there were much better songs on This is hardcore.

Oh My God I lost Oh My God! drama

Also didn't understand why Aerosmith weren't credited in Walk This Way #8 singles list? When I was choosing my top 30, I saw Walk This Way without Aerosmith and I thought it was any Run DMC alone version I've never heard it. That's the reason I didn't vote for it! drama Aerosmith are credited on this song on Polyhex.

Heavyweight Champion of the World got big points from me as I knew it wouldn't get many more, it's a great throwback to the late 2000s landfill indie era and the lyrics actually have held up pretty well.

Walk This Way and Summertime feel quite big songs to be that low down (I guess wrong time of year for the latter x)

'Live The Dream' is also my favourite Cast song, it's sublime ❤️ in fact I had the pleasure of watching them perform it live last weekend!

Eminem - The Way I Am

Charli XCX featuring Rita Ora - Doing It

Pet Shop Boys - Se a vida é (That's The Way Life Is)

The Pet Shop Boys have five number 8 singles of which three received votes and this is the first one to drop out. It was the second single taken from their 1996 album 'Bilingual'. In 2000, 'The Way I Am' was sandwiched by two number 1 singles for Eminem, 'The Real Slim Shady' and 'Stan'. Charli XCX has one song still to come.

Dionne Warwick - Do You Know The Way To San Jose

Written by Bacharach and David, this was the second of four top 10 hits for Dionne Warwick. It won her a Grammy award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Really like Rita Ora and Charli's 'Doing It' great pop duet!

Great 60s jazzy song 'Do you know the way to San Jose'.

A-ha - I've Been Losing You

Bellini - Samba De Janeiro

Birdy - Wings

Dr. Dre featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey - I Need A Doctor

Fine Young Cannibals - Johnny Come Home

A-Ha and Fine Young Cannibals both lose the second of their two number 8 singles with all four of them charting from 1985 to 1986. It's a bad day for Eminem who makes a second appearance.

'I Need A Doctor' is quite good even if Eminem is a bit shouty in it!

'Johnny Come Home' is a good song to dance to! Some house vibes with the piano.

The Beach Boys - Heroes And Villains

Backstreet Boys - The Call

Eternal - Just A Step From Heaven

Sum 41 - Fat Lip

Brian Wilson spent about 30 days in the studio trying to record this song for the 'Smiley Smile' album but eventually discarded everything and started again with this simpler arrangement which was put out as a single. The album was never completed. I'm more familiar with Brian's 2004 version with a new band when he recorded the whole album as closely as he could to what it would have sounded like in 1967. Eternal have three number 8 singles but 'Just A Step From Heaven' was the only one to receive votes. The Backstreet Boys depart after the third of their songs goes out.

I only know the Sum 41 song from that bunch, quite a hard-hitting song listening to it now! Assuming All*bySmashMouth gave it a lot of its points!?

"Heroes And Villains" got my 1 point, not one of my favourite Beach Boys songs but appreciate how much work went into it. "The Way I Am" is one of my favourite Eminem songs, very underrated. Glad I wasn't its only voter! Like some other 00s rock classics "Fat Lip" almost got points from me but just missed, "Samba De Janeiro" also just missed out. Lots of good memories from its use in the games Samba De Amigo/Sonic And SEGA Racing!

“Heroes And Villians” took me a while to really get into with its unusual structure but I think it’s fabulous. Another oldie pick of mine falling.
