January 23Jan 23 Afternoon all mostly looking forward to seeing where 'Raindance' and 'Stateside' land today. My top 3 songs from each throwback chart:202501 Gigi Perez - Sailor Song02 ROSÉ & Bruno Mars - APT.03 Lola Young - Messy202101 Olivia Rodrigo - drivers license02 Little Mix - Sweet Melody03 Anne-Marie - Don't Play (feat. Cassandra)02 Feeder - Buck Rogers03 Mis-Teeq - Why?199601 Babylon Zoo - Spaceman02 Oasis - Wonderwall03 Everything But The Girl - Missing15 years since 'Rolling In The Deep' was blocked by 'Grenade'! Both have really stood the test of time where Spotify streams are concerned, with 2.3BN and 1.8BN totals respectively. I got a bit fed up of Adele's big hits for a while, after her post-BRITs career boom, as she was truly everywhere - but 'Rolling In The Deep' has held up so well for me nowadays, probably my favourite from her.'Traktor' was a standout new entry that week as well, a bit of a forgotten gem 20 years since Arctic Monkeys last achieved a #1 single! The group adding to that tally one day doesn't seem entirely farfetched with the right material.
January 23Jan 23 It's probably not in the top 40 ( number 57 on Monday ) but congratulations to Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls on its 200th week in the top 100.The 3rd song to achieve this feat. I loved Iris back in 1998 and it still sounds great today.
January 23Jan 23 Author Missed the top 40 this week? Wizkid and AsakeJogodo1st single from REAL, Vol. 1Released: 15th January 2026Label: Starboy Entertainment / GIRAN Republic / EMPIREVideoBiographyWizkid“Everything about Lagos is me,” Wizkid told Apple Music in 2020. “That’s what shaped me, that’s what made me, that’s what inspires me every day.” In turn, Wizkid is shaping not just the sound of his city but the image of Nigeria worldwide. Born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun in Lagos in 1990, Wizkid hit the stage early, forming the group Glorious Five with church buddies at just 11. A decade later, he had regional success with his synth-kissed single “Holla at Your Boy,” which would appear on his 2011 debut solo album Superstar, but it was the lilting “Ojuelegba,” from 2014’s Ayo, that announced him as a force to be reckoned with. Afrobeats—the 21st-century fusion of styles like highlife and juju with house and UK funky—was on the rise, and for Wizkid, it was a case of right time, right place, right voice. Wizkid’s feature on Drake’s 2016 smash “One Dance” cemented his role as one of Afrobeats’ chief ambassadors, paving the way for 2017’s Sounds From the Other Side, his major-label debut. Assisted by global names like Ty Dolla $ign, Major Lazer, and Drake, the album embraced EDM and dancehall while further developing Afrobeats’ irresistibly airy grooves. It didn’t hurt that Wizkid’s blend of African and Caribbean styles coincided with reggaetón’s explosion, satisfying listeners seeking new sounds from a distinctly global perspective. In 2020, Made in Lagos fused more ideas still into his most cohesive whole and confirmed Wizkid’s role as a musical visionary—not just for African music, but for pop music worldwide. A year later, he won the Apple Music Award for Artist of the Year — Africa, and in 2022, he performed an Apple Music Live session in London. - Apple MusicAsakeWhen Asake released Mr. Money With The Vibe in 2022, the relentlessly catchy full-length debut broke streaming records for African albums and trended on digital platforms worldwide. It seemed as if he was anointed by fate to bring Nigerian street pop to the world. The singer and songwriter, born in Lagos in 1995, supercharges the polyrhythms and harmonies of his genre until they only need to be uploaded to go viral. Rather than attempt to polish the rough edges of street pop, he presses the sound forward while reaching deep into its sources, such as fuji music, for inspiration. The 2023 release Work Of Art, for example, sets a new standard for next-generation Afropop. Stacked with uplifting heaters, its progressive production makes a perfect counterpoint to the sticky beats and West African melodies that anchor it. It’s a formula made for taking the music of Lagos global. Maybe it is destiny. - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart HistoryWizkid2016 01 One Dance (Drake feat. January 23Jan 23 Author Missed the top 40 this week? Madison Beerbad enough4th single from locketReleased: 16th January 2026Label: Epic Records / Sing It LoudVideoBiographyNext-generation R&B singer Madison Beer, born in 1999, launched her career on YouTube. As a young teen, she became known for recording and sharing covers of her favorite artists, like Bruno Mars and Adele. When pop superstar Justin Bieber discovered her buoyant version of Etta James’ “At Last”—which Beer recorded when she was just 13—the world took notice, and Bieber quickly signed the young belter to Island Records. Bieber appeared in the video for Beer’s 2013 debut single, the anthemic “Melodies,” and in the ensuing years she went on to collaborate with some of pop and hip-hop's biggest names, including K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE, genre-bending duo Jack & Jack, and Migos member Offset. On her 2018 debut EP, As She Pleases, Beer proved her versatility on tracks like the retro-tinged “Teenager in Love” and the jittery “Say It to My Face”; soon after, she went on her first headlining tour and made her inaugural appearance at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago. Beer landed at Epic Records in 2019, and during 2020 she released singles in the run-up to her first full-length album, with the glitchy “Baby,” the haunting ballad “Selfish,” and the sweeping “Good in Goodbye” hinting at what the future might bring for one of the brightest stars of modern teen pop. - Apple MusicTop 100 Chart History2019 10 All Day And Night (Jax Jones, Martin Solveig, Madison Beer & Europa)2019 96 Dear Society -NAS-2020 53 Selfish -1-2020 86 Baby -2-2024 50 make you mine -1-2025 81 bittersweet -2-2026 xx bad enough -3-0 x #1 | 0 x Top 5 | 1 x Top 10 | 1 x Top 20 | 1 x Top 40 | 6 x Top 100Social Media Madison Beer
