Results: The Best Song Contest In The World... Ever! 12 – One Word, One Noun

Featured Replies

@Dobbo this is the 2nd win for Chez here (after Television's 'Marquee Moon' in the 70s rock edition)!

Juniper got the exact same split of points that Hiro Shinosawa just got in BJSC (I was the one giving that one 62.5% of its entire total).

This is the updated league table after 12 contests. Addy extends his lead over Dandy by one point while Dobbo and Jim make up some ground on the top two. 1. (1) 72 Addy! 2. (2) 63 dandy* 3. (3) 58 D

Songs without an official music video.

All caught up now - thanks AllStarBySmashMouth, Rollo and Brer (so it was you behind my 12 *.*) for the remaining points since I last commented! Not a spectacular result for Bows but I'm pleased with that inspired winner, congrats Chez, was surprised it had nothing to do with Space of 'Magic Fly' fame as their aesthetic looked so similar and the song isn't a million miles away either, just pure coincidence it was out the same year as that. Great result for Ministry, that was my silver medal, so matching with the results. My bronze, courtesy of Out of Order, finished 4th so almost another snap with the taste of BuzzJack there too. Brer's breakcore choice really stood out to me so I'm surprised it only just scraped the top 15.

Thank you for the well presented results, Wardy! Apologies I couldn't follow along more live.

Many congrats Chez on your first (?) victory in this contest! A very standout entry that I'm not surprised had wide appeal although was impressed with how many medal positions it received! I wasn't far off with St Etienne & Tori being contenders but that's still quite a significant points gap to Onyx in a relatively small field. Very happy to see Infinity up there too.

Really disappointed and shocked at Weatherman coming last though, definitely was my fave of the non-dance entries and I did not envisage me giving it 37.5% of its entire tally.

I'm very pleased with the performance of my entry, thanks to those who threw it support! This was actually a song I discovered a few years ago and had it on the backburners for a good while. I remember regretting not sending it to the Techno and Artistic/Experimental Electronica edition of Club Bizarre simply because I completely overlooked it as it was saved to a YouTube playlist rather than being on my regular Sportify Potentials playlist (obviously) and since that volume there hadn't been another Club Bizarre where it would have fit, but I'm happy I got to enter it into this contest instead as it happened to fit the very specific theme!

However not me manifesting this scenario actually happening to an entry of mine mere days after posting this in the BJSC forum... 😅

Not entirely the same as you did (presumably) at least listen to it but eh... it happens, no biggie!

I see the top 4 of the overall leaderboard all having strong results in this, just can't catch up with Addy & dandy* they're too damn consistent in this! 🤣

Thanks very much to Wardy for hosting. Look forward to volume 13!

Really appreciate the points from you and glad you liked the song

This result has made it clear to me that being unique won’t work, which seems a shame. I’m glad so many of you have a common music interest though :) but I’m out

On the topic of theme ideas, one I've had is like, 'the end of decades' edition. So everyone would send a song from a given choice of years, in this case years ending in 9, from 1909 to 1999. I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of entries were 1989 or 1999 though 🤭 But just an idea. Could also do 'start of decades' or whatever.

It can sometimes I'd say. I think nothing is as clear-cut in these contests as we might think or assume.

If it's of any comfort, I considered giving 'Weatherman' 1 or 2 points. I felt a pleasant sense of nostalgia from the track. I used to hear (and enjoy) those sort of songs.

Addy once did that with the year 1997 and we all had to find a song from that year!

Ah yes of course, should have remembered that one considering the relatively low turnout that time.

Oh sure, that sounds good. My idea isn't identical though as there would be a range of options that ended the decade (or began it). Still, like I said, most entries would probably be from the same two or three years 🤭

In time I might be able to come up with better ideas xD

And have you never had tasks here? For example, everyone asks for a number and gets a task. Like a Zodiac theme, you draw one zodiac sign and then send an artist who was born in that period.

That sounds wildly complicated 😅 I prefer when the themes are straight-forward and not too exclusive personally but there's definitely some food for thought in this thread for future contests.

There have been BJSC spin-offs where you shout out a number and get assigned a country and find a song from that country (Worldvision).

Is it too complicated to find a song or to organize it? 🤣🤣 Zodiac is just an example it could be any other kind of division that’s easier. The procedure itself is actually very simple. The person organizing the theme and assigning tasks by numbers sends the full list of numbers to one moderator. One person then picks a number for both of them in the comments, while everyone else chooses their own number via private message. If a number is already taken, the next available one is assigned. And voilà.

How about combining some of these thoughts, and everyone is assigned a random year between 1970 and 1999 to send a song from (going further back if there are more than 30 entries), but one person receives a 'joker' (nobody knows who ofc) and they have to send a song from any year between 1940 and 1960.

Hoorah - a return to the Top 10 (just). I honestly was expecting bottom 5 for Peace so I’m delighted it came 10th. Thanks for all the votes and especially Rich for the maximum 12 pointer.

Another great contest ❤️

I’d love to get the early 1900s because I’d stand out while I’m used to finishing near the bottom anyway 🤣
