Biography

Kehlani Parrish has become one of the most grounded, inspiring voices in modern R&B, preaching messages of self-care and sexual fluidity in ways that feel frank, funny and real. Born in Oakland, California, in 1995, they embarked on a solo career after leaving the teen-pop group Poplyfe. Since then, they have proven to be a master of contrasts across a series of mixtapes and albums that match heartfelt revelations with an increasing degree of futuristic musical and production flourishes. Collaborations ramped up their star power in a big way, with Kehlani thriving opposite the likes of Chance the Rapper, G-Eazy, Charlie Puth and Ty Dolla $ign. Following the induction into parenthood tackled on 2020’s It Was Good Until It Wasn’t and the overt healing themes of 2022’s blue water road, they took a more empowering turn on 2024’s CRASH. “For once, I’m not attached to some story or some public thing or some trauma or some deep explanations,” Kehlani told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “I have nothing but joyful things to say to you. I’m in such a happy place.” The songs on CRASH were also specifically designed to be performed live, giving them a spontaneous edge. That heightens the tender offer of romantic communion on both the percolating “After Hours” and the country-leaning ballad “Better Not”. By contrast, Kehlani reminds us of their enduring swagger on the Christina Aguilera-sampling “What I Want”, a brash statement of female desire. Through it all, their authenticity rings out loud and clear. - Apple Music

Ordinary will still be top 40 by then!

  • Ordinary will probably be still in the chart

  • I think we can consign to history the 3-year rule for automatic resets - it seems to be anything but Christmas songs that will get reset with a 25% increase now.

"Folded" could've been much bigger. Shame it only peaked at #20.

It was bigger in the USA... A massive Billboard Top 10 hit there.

Happy to hear Jack racing through the charts today, I've got swimming booked for 5pm again today and I think he's considered this ahead of playing Midnight Sun.

Biography

Not everyone gets famous as a teenager—and even fewer escape the experience intact. So congratulations to Harry Styles, who would’ve been fine had he retired after One Direction but instead went on to become one of the more interesting and adventurous pop stars of his era. “I think there’s a lot of things that used to feel like, Okay, there’s a part of your life, then there’s a hard stop, then there’s a next part of your life,” he told Apple Music around the release of 2022’s Grammy-winning Harry’s House. “Things that used to feel so unbelievably foreign to me, sort of terrifying—like, I’m not 19 anymore, so I’m less terrified. And realising [life’s] just one thing, and not chapter over, bye-bye.” Perspective: It helps, whether you’re out there in front of 50,000 people or performing the very first Apple Music Live session. Part of what made One Direction great was that they never shied away from the pleasures of boy-band pop but never patronised their audiences, either: Never mind the no-dancing policy; they wrote their own songs and cultivated their own musical perspectives. Beyond his precision-tooled indie-curious pastiche of classic pop, soft-rock, psychedelia and soul, Styles’ lyrics capture a playfulness and emotional specificity that feels unusual for pop so big, whether it’s the flirtation of “Music for a Sushi Restaurant” (“Green eyes/Fried rice/I could cook an egg on you”) or the image of a kid outrunning an unhappy home on “Matilda” (“You were riding your bike to the sound of ‘It’s No Big Deal’”). That life he’s pontificating about? Listen to the music and you can almost hear him living it. - Apple Music

Hopefully she can get higher to the point of enjoying her after the swim!

I KNOW! She looks gorgeous ❤️

Trying to avoid all spoilers of seeing what they're going to lip sync to because I actually don't know what the obvious option is. (or they do a song by another artist like when Kesha was there lol).

This now takes back the outright record most weeks in the Top 40 while on SCR with 47 - 'Beautiful Things' had been level on 46!
