Ok Spicegirlies, it's been 27 years since the very first albums from members of the band got released! mary

Still today, they are the only girlband from the UK to have all band members releasing a solo album AND the only girlband to have all members debuting their debut solo singles in the Top10 !!

Party La indeed!party2(stream Voodoo for clear skin!)

Now, enough time has passed and some of these debut singles have been forgotten (sorry Goin Down and Tell Me), some have found viral and chart success just this year (hello Not Such an Innocent Girl), some of them get a few 200-like tweets every now and then (hi Look At Me) and some of them still play regularly across European and South America radio stations (hello What Took You So Long! Get that coin Emma!)

It's safe to say that while iconic at the time in their own right, for different reasons, these are not necessarily legendary songs. Only one hit #1 dispite all of them having HEAVY promotion from each girl, but sadly most seem forgotten today, apart from maybe Look at Me and What Took You So Long that still stream well (for Solo Spice standards) today.

But which one is your favourite still all these years later?

Will it be big-band Look At Me?

The rock-wannabe-chick Goin' Down?

Or Maybe.mp3 you prefer the funky and angry Tell Me?

Perhaps the pop-guitar-slightly-UK-country What Took You So Long still gets you going?

Or has the wild virality and #1 on the UK (download) Charts success of Not Such an Innocent Girl revived your love for it?

Here's a reminder of them all, in order of release:

Geri Halliwell's Look At Me

(this damn thumbnail is horrific lol) ☠️

Melanie C's Going Down

Melanie B's Tell Me

Emma Bunton's What Took You So Long

Victoria Beckham - Not Such An Innocent Girl

  • Voted for 'Look At Me', which is my favourite Geri single overall nowadays! It was on the TOTP 1999 repeats yesterday so a timely reminder

  • Look At Me - especially at the time!! GD is epic in live concert 😍

  • Not Such An Innocent Girl Tell Me What Took You So Long — Look At Me — Going Down > Thankfully this is her worst ever song and it didn’t halt or hinder her success - I do appreciate how bold it was

I don't care hun, it's not on the album and was released a whole year before the album even came out and it is not the first single from the album.

Let's focus here hun x

Not Such An Innocent Girl

Tell Me

What Took You So Long

Look At Me

Going Down > Thankfully this is her worst ever song and it didn’t halt or hinder her success - I do appreciate how bold it was for going for something like this though! it’s just unfortunately, not my thing. <

Look At Me is the clear winner. It’s bombastic and makes a statement. The music video amplifies the song to higher heights. The death of ginger spice.

What Took You So Long is in 2nd place. Emma’s voice fits the airy guitar pop sound like a glove. It’s a shame she didn’t record more songs like it.

I do give Melanie C major props with picking Goin Down as the lead single. It was a bold choice for a single. It’s too bad most of her career has been hindered by picking safe and middle of the road singles.

I think Look at Me was fun but it was too 'marketing driven' for my liking, overall... Plus, she flat out sounds flat in some parts of it lol

Emma also recorded more guitar-driven songs, the A Girl Like Me album has lots of them lol just not on par with WTYSL... I do kind of wish she didn't pivot so much from that sound with We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight though, that just killed the era.

Personally I think What Took You So Long takes it. It's a perfect song, perfect video and era overall. It always goes down well and it is still a good radio staple in Europe just like When You're Gone and It's Raining Men.

Mel C might have been brave but she looked a bit cringe with the video and she had much better songs on the album to launch with. Goin Down is a great album track but not a lead single. Just like Not Such an Innocent Girl, they were Look at Me type of singles: meant to gather attention by being extravagant or shocking. Out of those, Look At Me is the better song, for sure.

Poor Tell Me though. I do love it and Mel's delivery on it. It shouldnt have been a launch single though. Feels So Good was right there! I think Tell Me could have been a great 4th single or a double AA-side with another song. Imagine Hotter/Tell Me, that would be great! As an album launch single? naaaa... Love the video though
