Each week (aiming for Sunday evenings) I'll post one of these polls and ask you all to select your favourites from the week's new entries in the UK Singles Chart top 100. Unlike the similar polls in the genre forums, this poll is multiple choice - I'll leave it to your discretion how you want to give votes, if you want to just vote for your favourite each week then go for it, if not you can vote for as many songs as you feel deserve a vote (I will encourage people to make sure they've actually listened to all of the songs before voting but I can't enforce that obviously x). There's also a 'none of the above' option if you want to put in a protest vote. And then feel free to post in the thread any rankings/ratings or general thoughts. The song with the most votes at the end of the week will be the winner.

Apologies for already slipping into flop poll host territory again as I didn't get around to posting last week's poll on time. After a few days I was thinking about belatedly posting it again but then decided I might as well just wait until this weekend and do 2 in 1 considering the week 9 poll only has 4 songs in it. Let's try and make this the only time I do this for a while xxx

Anyhoo, week 8 proved to be a bit of a surprise nailbiter - I was thinking the only question would be which of the Charli xcx songs took it but it ended up being quite close between 4 songs with Charli not even taking both of the top 2! The British BRAT star did ultimately come out victorious though with 'Dying For You' from her soundtrack to the new film version of Wuthering Heights, this song was not pushed as a single but still outcharted the actual new single as people cottoned onto it having a bit more of a typical commercial sound to it. The proper single 'Always Everywhere' takes 3rd place in the poll, just pipped into the runner up spot by Fred again.. and Jamie T, while Bad Bunny's belatedly charting 2022 banger finished in a strong 4th place. Only 6 votes separated the entire top 4 (a smaller gap than that between the top 2 in most weeks so far - there was a 3 vote margin between Charli and Fred). Happy to see 'other side.' at least being the most popular of the also-rans but I do think it would have got more votes if it had actually charted in the top 40.

Full week 8 results:

1 23/43 Charli xcx - Dying For You (#27)

2 20/43 Fred again.. and Jamie T - Lights Burn Dimmer (#49)

3 19/43 Charli xcx - Always Everywhere (#33)

4 17/43 Bad Bunny - Tití Me Preguntó (#18)

5 6/43 Brent Faiyaz - other side. (#95)

6 5/43 Ewan McVicar - Share The House (#79)

7 3/43 Luke Combs - Be By You (#47)

7 3/43 Brent Faiyaz - wrong faces. (#96)

[3/43 none of the above]

9 2/43 Central Cee - ICEMAN FREESTYLE (#37)

9 2/43 Central Cee - SLAUGHTER (feat. J Hus) (#54)

Week 9's contenders:

twenty one pilots - Drag Path (#23)

Lana Del Rey - White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter (#58)

Mumford & Sons and Gracie Abrams - Badlands (#64)

Mumford & Sons - The Banjo Song (#91)

Week 10's contenders:

Alex Warren - FEVER DREAM (#3)

Bruno Mars - Risk It All (#15)

Olivia Dean - The Hardest Part (#19)

RAYE - Nightingale Lane. (#20)

BLACKPINK - GO (#44)

Bruno Mars - Cha Cha Cha (#47)

Skye Newman - Walk (#48)

Bella Kay - Steady (#63)

Sonny Fodera and CHRYSTAL - My Loving (#66)

Gorillaz - The Moon Cave (feat. Asha Puthli, Bobby Womack, Dave Jolicoeur, Jalen Ngonda and Black Thought) (#72)

Gorillaz - Orange County (feat. Bizarrap, Kara Jackson and Anoushka Shankar) (#94)

Week 9 has the most scant list since the first week of the year with only 4 options, 2 coming from the Mumford & Sons album (a new release and a belatedly charting single). Week 10 by contrast is, just, the busiest week of new entries of the year so far with 11 of them, including a couple each from the new Bruno Mars and Gorillaz albums (the latter similarly including one newbie and one that came out a few weeks earlier but needed the album boost to crack the top 100). It also includes an old Olivia Dean song finally getting its turn in the revolving door, but otherwise all fresh stuff. If an algorithmically generated Alex Warren song can be considered 'fresh'. (I'm aware it has a pretty good chance of actually winning the poll but I'll still be shading it - go 'Orange County' instead xx).

(playlist includes all the songs from both weeks, I've not included an option to only vote in one or the other I'm afraid - unless the new site allows you to do that by default? not sure - you can always utilise 'none of the above' if you want to x)

Hall of Fame:

Week 1: Zara Larsson - Midnight Sun [29/49]

Week 2: Fleetwood Mac - Landslide [27/48]

Week 3: Bruno Mars - I Just Might [26/44]

Week 4: Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should've Come Over [23/43]

Week 5: Harry Styles - Aperture [30/46]

Week 6: Noah Kahan - The Great Divide [21/44]

Week 7: sombr - Homewrecker [31/43]

Week 8: Charli xcx - Dying For You [23/43]

Missed voting but seems I was pretty in tune with the consensus here. Week 9: White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter Drag Path Week 10: Orange County Nightingale Lane

  • JosephStyles

Not the strongest field across either week! Only Drag Path gets my vote in the first poll, easily the best Twenty One Pilots song I've heard since Heathens. BLACKPINK got my vote in the second poll,

Week 9: Lana. After initially not getting the song at all, it has really grown on me.

Week 10: To precisely nobody's surprise I went for King Warren because 'Fever Dream' is an absolute BOP D

Only 21P for week 9. For week 10 I've gone with Alex, Raye, Sonny Fodera (Chrystal actually doing a decent job on vocals) and The Moon Cave.

Week 9

  1. Twenty One Pilots - Drag Path

  2. Mumford & Sons & Gracie Abrams - Badlands

  3. Lana Del Rey - White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter

  4. Mumford & Sons - The Banjo Song

'Drag Path' is really nice and definitely one of the best I've heard from them. 'Badlands' is better than the average Mumford & Sons track but 'The Banjo Song' is back to being boring.

Week 10

  1. BLACKPINK - Go

  2. Olivia Dean - The Hardest Part

  3. Gorillaz feat. Asha Puthli, Bobby Womack, Dave Jolicoeur, Jalen Ngonda and Black Thought - The Moon Child

  4. Bella Kay - Steady

  5. Gorillaz (feat. Bizarrap, Kara Jackson and Anoushka Shankar - Orange County

  6. Bruno Mars - Cha Cha Cha

  7. Alex Warren - FEVER DREAM

  8. RAYE - Nightingale Lane.

  9. Skye Newman - Walk

  10. Sonny Fodera & Chrystal - My Loving

  11. Bruno Mars - Risk It All

Far from my favourite BLACKPINK song but I'm never going to not support them. Surprised by how much I liked 'The Hardest Part'. Already my second favourite I've heard from Olivia.

Good to hear some of the new Gorillaz tracks because I've managed to win a free ticket to see them through work! If I was in a more generous mood, I could easily give 'The Moon Child' a vote. Black Thought's rap kinda lost it for me which is surprising as I usually love his work.

'Steady' is a big stepdown from Bella's big hit for me. 'Cha Cha Cha' and 'FEVER DREAM' are both ok. The RAYE and Skye Newman tracks are both a bit nothingy. But 'Risk It All' might be Bruno's laziest, dullest song yet.

Week 9

  • twenty one pilots - Drag Path (#23) - very dull and very uninteresting

  • Lana Del Rey - White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter (#58) - see above!

  • Mumford & Sons and Gracie Abrams - Badlands (#64) - offensively dull and uninteresting

  • Mumford & Sons - The Banjo Song (#91) - ugh go on then, this one isn't too bad

Just Mumford here.

Week 10

  • Alex Warren - FEVER DREAM (#3) - pretty catchy, decent effort

  • Bruno Mars - Risk It All (#15) - a very nice ballad, one of those he does very well indeed

  • Olivia Dean - The Hardest Part (#19) - oMIDia Dean in full effect here, lounge music

  • RAYE - Nightingale Lane. (#20) - too ploddy for me, oversang in parts too

  • BLACKPINK - GO (#44) - wow this is a stomper! their most instant song i've ever heard

  • Bruno Mars - Cha Cha Cha (#47) - this one doesn't do much for me, a bit pedestrian

  • Skye Newman - Walk (#48) - for her this isn't bad but nothing I'd want to hear again, and copying tate mcrae really?

  • Bella Kay - Steady (#63) - good grief i hope this doesn't follow iloveit into the top 10, pretty shite

  • Sonny Fodera and CHRYSTAL - My Loving (#66) - another big W for Sonny

  • Gorillaz - The Moon Cave (feat. Asha Puthli, Bobby Womack, Dave Jolicoeur, Jalen Ngonda and Black Thought) (#72) - meh, too many cooks clearly

  • Gorillaz - Orange County (feat. Bizarrap, Kara Jackson and Anoushka Shankar) (#94) - this album sucks then

Voted for Alex, Bruno, BP & Sonny.

Not the strongest field across either week! Only Drag Path gets my vote in the first poll, easily the best Twenty One Pilots song I've heard since Heathens.

BLACKPINK got my vote in the second poll, but it's not as good as JUMP for me. Also voted for Orange County which surprised me, I'm not really into Gorillaz at all but I really like the vibe of this one! A few others I didn't mind - Bella Kay, Sonny Fodera/Chrystal, Olivia Dean are perfectly nice, but didn't inspire me to vote. That Skye Newman song is her worst yet!

Week 9:

  1. twenty one pilots - Drag Path (#23)

  2. Lana Del Rey - White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter (#58)

  3. Mumford & Sons and Gracie Abrams - Badlands (#64)

  4. Mumford & Sons - The Banjo Song (#91)

Week 10:

  1. Gorillaz - The Moon Cave (feat. Asha Puthli, Bobby Womack, Dave Jolicoeur, Jalen Ngonda and Black Thought) (#72)

  2. Sonny Fodera and CHRYSTAL - My Loving (#66)

  3. Gorillaz - Orange County (feat. Bizarrap, Kara Jackson and Anoushka Shankar) (#94)

  4. RAYE - Nightingale Lane. (#20)

  5. BLACKPINK - GO (#44)

  6. Bella Kay - Steady (#63)

  7. Olivia Dean - The Hardest Part (#19)

  8. Bruno Mars - Cha Cha Cha (#47)

  9. Bruno Mars - Risk It All (#15)

  10. Alex Warren - FEVER DREAM (#3)

  11. Skye Newman - Walk (#48)

Week 9: voted 21P and Lana. Feel bad for blanking both Mumford & Sons songs, but I don't think either are up to their singles last year.

Week 10: just voted for Bella, hope this has some of the success of her current Top 3 hit. Interesting results in this poll as it stands!

WEEK 9

1) Twenty One Pilots - Drag Path (absolute belter, so happy their back in charts)

2) Mumford & Sons - The Banjo Song (it’s alright)

3/4) Lana Del Rey - White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter / Mumford & Sons x Gracie Abrams - Badlands (the latter is penalised for gracie abrams’ sole existence on the track, the former is atrocious)

WEEK 10

1) RAYE - Nightingale Lane. (do i need to explain?)

2) Sonny Fodera x Chrystal - My Loving (what a tune)

3) Alex Warren - FEVER DREAM (tired of lying this is a TUNE)

4) Olivia Dean - The Hardest Part (it’s olivia dean.)

5) BLACKPINK - GO (limited myself here as i didn’t initially like it)

6) Bella Kay - Steady (need time)

7/8) it’s both Gorillaz songs, both good

9) Bruno Mars - Risk It All (its cute, nothing too interesting)

10) Skye Newman - Walk (meh)

11) Bruno Mars - Cha Cha Cha (meh)

voted for...

A couple of hours left for any further votes!

My belated ranking from week 8 as I didn't post it in that thread:

1 Tití Me Preguntó

2 Always Everywhere

3 Lights Burn Dimmer

4 other side.

5 wrong faces.

6 Dying For You

7 SLAUGHTER

8 ICEMAN FREESTYLE

9 Share The House

10 Be By You

Have loved that Bad Bunny song for years so was a moment to see it finally charting, up there with his very best for me, absolute banger. 'Always Everywhere' was a little bit of a slow burner for me but now comfortably my favourite song that I've heard from this soundtrack so far (I've still not got around to hearing it in full just yet but have heard most of it now), can see why it was overshadowed by the more commercial and also good 'Dying For You' but glad it at least got its moment in the top 40 anyway. Great song from Fred and lovely to hear Jamie T on a charting song again, still sounding very much like his own style but blending well with Fred's production. Brent Faiyaz' vocals always sound great to me and two quite different sounding but both high quality songs here, I'd love for 'other side.' to get more of a push as I could really see it being a big hit but probably not happening, the other one is a bit more of his usual niche-ish alt R&B sound. Both of the Cench songs are solid bangers if not career highlights, really like the production on 'ICEMAN FREESTYLE' and while I thought the J Hus feature on 'SLAUGHTER' was a little disappointing it was made up for by me actually enjoying Cench's own parts a bit more. 'Share The House' is pretty dime-a-dozen house but not bad. 'Be By You' is back to the usual Luke Combs slop that I'm not a fan of after not minding his previous hit, it's not totally unlistenable is the nicest thing I can say x

And from this week's polls:

Week 9:

1 White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter

2 Drag Path

3 Badlands

4 The Banjo Song

Stanning the eerie theatricality of this Lana track, such a unique sound and love that she still has the name power to get a song this weird to actually chart. Can take or leave all of the others, 'Drag Path' does get quite good in the last minute or so but it's a slog before that, 'Badlands' was better than I expected a Mumford/Gracie collab to be but still just alright, just sounds like it's trying to be a Bon Iver song but much less interesting. 'The Banjo Song' has grown on me a little bit since I first heard it but it's an appropriately generic title for a song that is just there to fill space in their discography.

Week 10:

1 Orange County

2 Nightingale Lane.

3 The Hardest Part

4 My Loving

5 The Moon Cave

6 GO

7 Steady

8 Risk It All

9 Cha Cha Cha

10 FEVER DREAM

11 Walk

Also no contest for my favourite from this week, beautiful track from Gorillaz, a really nice blending of musical styles from across the world, fairly simplistic lyrics but they work well and the whistling is an earworm. I also still need to hear the rest of the album but the songs I have heard from it have been quite hit or miss, some of them feel like they have too many ideas that don't really work that well together and that is still what I'm feeling with 'The Moon Cave' at the moment, feels like about 3 different songs which are all just alright stitched together. I don't feel quite as blown away as I feel like I ought to by the RAYE track but it is a well written classy tune, and 'The Hardest Part' is Olivia doing her thing nicely enough too, I didn't really like 'Dive' so good to know she did have at least one pretty good song from her debut. 'My Loving' I think is going to grow into a bit of an incessant earworm, it's enjoyable enough but feels just a bit too generic to give it a vote. 'GO' has the potential to be a solid banger but the production is a little headache inducing at parts - it is a bit like 'How It's Done' really lol (although it is a bit better than that). Bella's vocals sound nice as ever on 'Steady' but the song doesn't really go anywhere unlike her other two hits, the instrumental is a bit comatose especially. I've heard all of the Bruno songs from catching up with the Hot 100 and there are some good tracks on there but aside from 'I Just Might' we've really had all the least engaging ones charting here - it is kind of interesting to hear the Latin influence on 'Risk It All' but at the end of the day it's still just kind of a retread of 'Grenade' which is one of his most turgid songs, and 'Cha Cha Cha' just doesn't really have much to it at all (although I'll still take it over the song that's charted in the following week #spoilers). Also feel nothing at all from the Alex song, genuinely still prefer 'Ordinary'. And the Skye song is extremely bland as well and with some pretty subpar lyricism to boot (although at least she's not screeching on it).

Aside: could have had newies called both 'The Hardest Part' and 'The Hardest Thing' in this chart considering 'Orange County' is effectively just a continuation of the song with the latter title from Gorillaz' album but split into its own song for some reason.

Missed voting but seems I was pretty in tune with the consensus here.

Week 9:

White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter

Drag Path

Week 10:

Orange County

Nightingale Lane
