May 12May 12 I like Pato’s cover version with its uptempo reggae vibes, I just prefer the original a bit more
May 12May 12 Baby Come Back is fun enough and I was happy to see Eddy Grant grab a third UK chart-topper as songwriter - but it's not in the same league as the banging stomp of The Equals' original. They have had a comprehensive re-issue of their back catalogue over the last few months, and I hope it helps push them a bit more as a 60's band pushing boundaries that tended to get forgotten in Rock Historian circles, being more pop than rock and all that. Pato and UB40 doing their bit in 1994 for that. People often not fans of UB40 but they did a lot for lesser-known acts of the 60s and early 70's, mostly reggae or soul, not least an income stream that wasn't there before they did a cover.
May 14May 14 Author "Everything changes" was the 5th single from Take That's very succesful second album of the same name. The previous three singles from the album ("Pray", "Relight My Fire", "Babe") all went to #1, so this was their fourth #1 in a row. "Everything Changes" is a nice little uptempo song and much more up my street than "Sure". The Single-CD features also a Beatles Medley (I Want To Hold Your Hand - Hard Days Night - She Loves You) and an extended version of "Everything Changes". Nicely enough, this is no cover version but carries a nice 1970's Bee Gee's vibe for me. A great pop song!
May 14May 14 Better than Babe, but not nearly in the same league as Pray or Relight My Fire. Nice to see Robbie on lead, and it's a pleasant singalong with a fairly unexciting arrangement, but decent enough. Never noticed that sax solo before much. "smokin"!
May 14May 14 Yeah it's a good track, and a nice Robbie moment with strong vocals and a charming performance from him. A very catchy chorus too.
May 14May 14 "We've said goodbye, the taxi cab is waiting."Yes Robbie's distinctive voice is all over this track.A nice track.@Colm reviewed this track recently and your ranking is considerably more positive lol.
Monday at 07:513 days Ah, I love Everything Changes, on some days it may even be my favourite Take That song! Such a brilliant upbeat track with great vocals by Robbie.
Tuesday at 16:122 days Author “Doop” is a great one-hit wonder mixing eurodance with 1920s Charleston jazz. I always found this song very funny and it loved to dance to it. Doop are the dutch duo Ferry Ridderhof and Peter Garnefski. Before they started through as doop they were well known in the Dutch hardcore scene under their alias Hocus Pocus producing party anthems such as "Here's Johnny", which uses vocals from the Shining movie. I heard Doop first in my favourite radio show at that time - The Steve Mason Experience - which came weekly at Friday Night on BFBS radio. It was on the 19th of February 1994: https://www.stevemasonexperience.info/1994/February_19_1994
Tuesday at 17:102 days Doop is unashamedly one of my favourites of the year, it's seen as a novelty song but I think it's quite a genius fusing of styles, I don't think any other 90s dance song sounds quite like it.
Yesterday at 09:231 day I like the retro vibes, but the song could get on the nerves after a while, oops!
Yesterday at 17:561 day Author It is unbelievable that Prince only has one #1 hit in the UK. This event happened in April with "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World", a smooth funky love song. The production is quite minimalistic giving Prince much room for his unique voice. For me the perfect radio song. In 1994 Prince renamed himself to "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince" - later he switch to a symbol. Unfortunately, he died way to early in 2016 aged only 57 years.
