1994 saw only 15 number #1's. Eurodance was at its peak, so there were loads of dance songs. Take That continued their succesful run of 1993. Two songs became #1 on re-release. There were also some long runners at #1. Find out about my ranking very soon!!!

Personally, I was at school at that time and started going out to discotheques - mainly danced to the eurovibe at that time. There was also a nice summer holiday to Lloret de Mar.

Great year for albums, less so for number 1 singles!

There were actually quite a few dance number 1's that year thinking about it, nothing compared to 2014 though!

I have a clear number one for 1994 so it will be interesting to see if you do as well… my second fave is a total guilty pleasure that I suspect would be quite low on most lists

This was somewhat the endboss to beat in 1994. Fifteen painful weeks this song spends at #1 between early June and September. Sorry to be a bit harsh, but Wet Wet Wet are the complete opposite to the music I like. They might have had some good songs in the beginning of their career in the early 1980's, but became quite quickly famous for boring pop-rock songs.

"Love Is All Around" was originally written by The Troggs, peaking at #5 in 1967. Wet Wet Wet's cover version was central part of the soundtrack for the movie "Four Weddings and a Funeral", which might explain the success of the song. Up until today I don't see any appeal in this song and, thus, ranked it as my last favourite #1 of 1994.

I even found this incredibly corny as a 7-year-old.

Love is All Around is okay for what it is, but not something I’d ever seek out - same evaluation I’d give the other mammoth film soundtrack hits from the first half of the 90s. I wouldn’t rank it last (there’s two songs I despise in 1994) but I doubt I’d put it much higher than about 13th

Definitely deserves to be near the bottom. Hackneyed and overplayed.

Love Is All Around was a bad cover of an actually really good 60s pop song. Overblown and pompous but of course massive mainly due to the film exposure, as were many of the 90s biggest songs. I’ll wait to see what is yet to come (I don’t want to spoil your countdown) but there’s a good chance it would be in last place for me too.

Not sure I’d quite put “Love Is All Around” last but fairly low certainly.

In general I like East 17 a lot - from their great debut "House Of Love", over to "Deep", "It's Alright", "Around The World" and "Steam", up to their final songs "If You Ever" and "Hey Child". For me they were the coolest boy band around in the first half of the 90's, because I found them much more authentic than e.g. Take That and NKOTB.

However, my least favourite from them is "Stay Another Day". It is not that it is really bad, but I am not liking these kind of ballads in general. It is really an irony that "Stay Another Day" gave them their one and only #1. No hard feelings against this song, it is much better than my #15 and gave East 17 their well deserved #1.

It is clear to me that this post is controversial and there are many people loving this song. I have to admit that my ranking is quite subjective. In general I like most of the #1's from 1994 and there were many close decisions.

'Wishing I was Lucky' was a brilliant and unique sounding pop debut for Wet Wet Wet in 1987. 'Love Is All Around' is pleasant enough but was overplayed on radio/music channels.

East 17 'Stay Another Day' is a nice song to hear at the festive season but I prefer 'If You Ever' as a ballad. I also like 'House of Love' and 'Let It Rain', the latter has one of those 90s eurodance rap verses that is so bad its good lol!

Oh it should be subjective, much more interesting to see how you rank them rather than list what you think other people may want to see ☺️

A song I adore all year round, not just at Christmas. It gets me right in the feels.

Oh I like both of the bottom two, even Love Is All Around, as overplayed as it was. Maybe it's the nostalgia factor, but I find it quite a good singalong.

Stay Another Day I find to be a genuinely great, heartfelt song. One I rinse a lot over Christmas every year.

Agreed with Dandy though - I love seeing surprises like this, personal ranks are exactly what these countdowns are intended as (or what my original 2000 one was anyway).

I agree that the 'Love Is All Around' cover is a bit overblown but I don't hate it. Maybe it helps that I wasn't alive to experience its overexposure at the time!

I do love 'Stay Another Day' though a genuine gut punch moment lyrically from a boy band.
