The more recent winners here are so much better. In fact most winners from the 2010s, not just the latter half of the decade, were pretty rubbish...

Best: Måneskin - ZITTI E BUONI

Worst: Netta - Toy

'ZITTI E BUONI' and '1944' are all-time favourite winners for me ❤️

Wasted Love

I will say I'm not really a big fan of the songs that win Eurovision in general, songs that tend to finish lower down tend to be more my thing usually. But Tattoo is probably my favourite song overall of the 2020s so far, I really love that. Bangaranga is absolutely brilliant, loved Måneskin and I have a soft spot for the beauty and fragility of Amar Pelos Dois. The next three are all good, very high quality. Stefania isn't winner quality, but is ok as a song. Toy always hugely grated on me and I really can't stand Wasted Love, not my thing whatsoever.

  1. Loreen - Tattoo

  2. DARA - Bangaranga

  3. Salvador Sobral - Amar Pelos Dois

  4. Måneskin - Zitti E Buoni

  5. Kalush Orchestra - Stefania

  6. Jamala - 1944

  7. Nemo - The Code

  8. JJ - Wasted Love

  9. Duncan Laurence - Arcade

  10. Netta - Toy

  1. Måneskin - Zitti E Buoni

  2. Jamala - 1944

  3. Kalush Orchestra - Stefania

Pretty clear top 3, Zitti E Buoni was a generational winner, so fresh and blood-pumping, 'rock & roll never dies' (no matter how their career went after), and the Ukraine winners are both poignant, meaningful and epic, so so good and ones I regularly play.

  1. Salvador Sobral - Amar Pelos Dois

Amar Pelos Dois is the sort of song that does grow on you, I hated it at the time, but it is just pretty lovely from a musical composition point of view and obviously will stand out in the winners list for a long time.

  1. Loreen - Tattoo

  2. Nemo - The Code

  3. Duncan Lawrence - Arcade

  4. JJ - Wasted Love

  5. DARA - Bangaranga

these are all about the same, competent pop songs that are absolutely fine but I'm not currently wanting to return to all that much and didn't hugely excite me as winners, Wasted Love and The Code I think were hurt by winning in subsequent years and getting inevitable comparisons but the drama of 'The Code' is better. DARA... very fresh right now and I'm happy it won but it's slightly underwhelming as a winner.

  1. Netta - Toy

however 'Toy' is loud, shouty and horrendous, easily the worst winner of the last 10.

Agree with @Dobbo that the winners have been getting better recently - the most recent four are my top four!

1. The Code
2. Bangaranga
3. Tattoo
4. Wasted Love
5. Arcade
6. Toy
7. Zitti i Buoni
8. Stefania
9. 1944
10. Amar pelos dois

"The Code" was my favourite of 2024 (in a very tight battle with Baby Lasagna), and when things settle I think "Bangaranga" will be the entry from this year that I go back to the most.

A few years ago I probably would've put "Toy" and "Arcade" the other way round, I was very happy with the former as a winner, and found the latter fine but overrated. But "Toy" does grate these days.

Salvador and Jamala were awful back to back winners for me, they were down in the bottom 3 of their respective years personally.

01 DARA - Bangaranga

02 Salvador Sobral - Amar Pelos Dois

03 Måneskin - Zitti E Buoni

04 Nemo - The Code

05 Kalush Orchestra - Stefania

06 JJ - Wasted Love

07 Duncan Laurence - Arcade

08 Jamala - 1944

09 Netta - Toy

10 Loreen - Tattoo

The bottom 2 is quite interchangeable. I only didn’t place Netta at the bottom because I loved the song and saw it live in Lisbon, although since then I never went back to it. And now even more for obvious reasons. Loreen was okay but the weakest of packages overall.

Top 3 is some of the best winners in the entire history of the contest. Maybe it’ll change with time but Dara is firmly at the top so far. I cannot get enough.

  1. Måneskin - Zitti E Buoni

  2. DARA - Bangaranga

  3. Nemo - The Code

  4. JJ - Wasted Love

  5. Loreen - Tattoo

  6. Duncan Lawrence - Arcade

  7. Netta - Toy

  8. Kalush Orchestra - Stefania

  9. Jamala - 1944

  10. Salvador Sobral - Amar Pelos Dois

  1. Kalush Orchestra - Stefania

  2. Jamala - 1944

  3. Nemo - The Code

  4. Loreen - Tattoo

  5. JJ - Wasted Love

So DARA the best in a while, top 5 were all amongst my favourites from the years, the other five are all competent enough at what they do but never excited me, much preferred the early 2010s for winners.

My favourite is "Toy" - it is the perfect queer ESC anthem and the only downpoint is that it was an Israel entry. Also like the songs from Loreen, Dara, Maneskin and Nemo. JJ was just a Nemo rip off imo - did not like it much. Kalush Orchestra is not bad, but I would have prefered Sam Ryder. Totally forgot about 1944 and Arcade, but if it would be favourites of mine I would remember 🤣. Absolutely dislike the Salvador Sobral song - I watched that final together with 6 people and no one saw any appeal in it - still wondering today how that could win.

Hoo boy some of this is going to be controversial based on some of the answers above, but here goes - starting with least favourite…

  1. Jamala - 1944. I was really happy it won as Ukraine deserved some good news at the time (especially given what we know the future held), and the message behind it is a powerful one, but the song itself just isn’t one I think I’ve ever revisited over all the years since.

  1. Netta - Toy. Nice to have an upbeat winner again, and fun to listen to for a bit after the contest, but again this just hasn’t carried on into songs I still listen to today and I still feel like Cyprus would have been the more worthy winner that year.

  1. Loreen - Tattoo. Which sucks as I really liked Euphoria which may be my favourite winner ever still, but this leaves me so cold in comparison. For how big and well-loved 2023’s contest is for many, it’s only really ‘Cha Cha Cha’ and randomly ‘Solo’ that have stuck with me from then.

  1. Kalush Orchestra - Stefania. Really the definition of ‘mid’ for me in that it’s ok, and was in my top ten that year, but this will always be The Song That Stopped Space Man and unlike 2016’s win, it felt like they could have literally sent anything that year - even three minutes of total silence - and they’d have still won.

  1. Nemo - The Code. Onto the song that stopped Baby Lasagna’s deserved win in a year with so much uncomfortable backstage drama it’s hard to revisit now, it’s also one I don’t mind listening to if it plays but I don’t go out of my way to listen to it. Also the moment I realised I was getting way older than many Eurovision contestants as I’d already started watching the show before this dude was born.

  1. JJ - Wasted Love. Honestly really similar to the above, but this one edges above it for the fast bit at the end which felt like what made ‘Shum’ so good was finally getting its moment.

  1. Dara - Bangaranga. This has the huge potential to be a grower but being #4 already is a great start, incredible shock winner and just a great package of performer, song and staging all round.

  1. Maneskin - Zitti E Buoni. So many people say 2021 was the show at its utter peak and I really can’t argue with that, so many entries that year would have a chance of being on this list had they won. This was a wonderfully high energy winner and seeing them live in London a few months after their win, when just being at a gig again was so fresh, was a hell of a moment.

  1. Duncan Laurence - Arcade. It’s normally a bit of a shame when the odds favourite wins but I was more than happy this did, incredibly emotional song that had a deserved social media comeback while we were waiting for the next contest.

Meaning, yeah…

  1. Salvador Sobral - Amar Pelos Dois. Ok, look, I know this one pissed a lot of people off and that ‘disposable music’ speech etc etc, but hearing this live in Kyiv, especially with those extra high notes at the end, reduced me to an absolute blubbering wreck. It stood out so much among the competition, beat an odds favourite (Italy), was my 12 points that year and the whole crowd in that arena were chanting for it. I loved it and still love it today.

Going back another ten years, as mentioned ‘Euphoria’ would top all of these, ‘Only Teardrops’, ‘Fairytale’ and ‘Hard Rock Hallelujah’ would all do well, and sorry ‘Believe’ and ‘Satellite’ but you’d be joining the bottom of the list I think.

Euphoria is an incredible song, it deserved a way bigger landslide win, it was a country mile ahead of everything (put together) in 2012.

Loreen got very lucky to win again in 2023 and I do wonder if even three years on it would have done it now. It seems the introduction of more jurors and younger jury members has given more televote friendly songs a jury boost too, and I feel like Cha Cha Cha would have got a lot nearer to Tattoo on the jury vote under the new rules. No denying that Cha Cha Cha deserved that win, it was the big moment of the year and way ahead on the televote. But then Tattoo was such a huge hit in the real world in the end, so that winning wasn't really undeserved either, the jury saw in it what music consumers saw in it (plus Loreen's great performance and talent as always).
