Wait, there's a break??

There's always meant to be no (regular) contest in June although we've run over schedule a few times in recent years so the 1x5 contest has tended to creep into it ddd.

Can we have the break in September instead? That's the month I'm gonna struggle to make time for 🤣

open a thread with the notice board so we know everything that might be waiting for us in June!!

In all seriousness. I'm slightly worried I'll forget to enter next time around because of the break 🤣

My unplanned hiatus was after 65, afterall 😭😭

What’s even the point of that break?

To give a nice round number of 10 contests or year (I assume!)

Though I assume contest fatigue is real! I wouldn't know though, I've never managed 10 in a row 🤣

I've never done 6 in a row before.

My previous run long, long ago was apparently 6(?) non-consecutively and I don't remember taking gaps. 😆

I second this one

Scanning the spreadsheets... that Nelly 8 in the semi to 0 in the final pipeline though 😢

went from brat cheeseblock to melted brat cheeseblock

I am currently putting together a playlist of 1980s singles that failed to make the top 40 and added 'To France' to it this morning. I hadn't noticed that it was in this contest so it's a bit of a co-incidence. Good to see a song from the 80s win the main BJSC. Well done Addy.

Congrats Addy, first time I've voted for a winner of yours I do believe!

And yay for me avoiding 42nd cheer

Shocked that you didn’t vote for Annabel Englund o

Also I just checked my calendar and want to add that probably contest will start the end of June, so we don’t have to wait until July cheer

Thanks for hosting @DaTilt

11th for Chalk, I wasn't expecting that, so to finish just outside the Top 10 is an bonus, thanks to everyone who voted for Chalk. The wait for an place on the BJSC rostrum goes on for us.

I got stuck at work again 🥀

anyway congrats addy! winning with a retro song feels just about right ☺️ A shame my 18 couldn’t win. Second contest in a row but glad to see that ILLIT joins Yuri/Seohyun and EVERGLOW in the land of BJSC K-pop medalists! Great to see new peaks for Spodic Empire and yay for Ennea getting another top 10!

Herbilore, Danaeviia & Greenfroze ROBBED 😭

I seem to love placing 12th lately, that’s 3 out of the last 4 entries now! Thanks for the support for Ellen and thank you to @DaTilt for hosting 🩵

So I ended up voting for 6 of the top 10, a little bit of a drop from having 8/10 around the two thirds mark of the reveal but still the first time in (exactly) a year that I've voted for more than half of the top 10 so that's a result. If you'd pressed me to predict a winner I think I might have said Mike Oldfield, it was a song I knew already but only for a bit over a year so not like it's a song I've known my whole life or anything, I'm sure it was a discovery to a fair few of those who voted for it. Mike (and Maggie) being sent to the first ever contest and finally getting a winner the best part of two decades later cheeseblock shall look forward to another Addy contest and moaning about AI usage again. I think this is only the fourth 20th century song to win a regular BJSC following Crystal Waters, X-Perience and Stevie Nicks.

I did also have a strong feeling The Spodic Empire would be onto a big hit this time and was hoping for the same for Sovarasma so brill to see them both in the top 5 (and swiftly another new peak for the former), three of the top 5 getting double figure points from me! Jadakissnia being predicted to do so well felt like a bit of déjà vu to when we both sent German language songs and Jade nearly won (TEMMIS) while I fell quite short of qualifying (Die Nerven) kink not quite the same scale of repeating history with Fr*nch this time but still another top 10 for Jadakissnia, glad to see it though of course. And then fabulous to see Boy Harsher now having the top 10 to their name that they should have got with both of their previous entries (+ Ennea getting that back to back top 10 *.*) and a quite unexpected but very welcome top 10 for Elëdan as well!

I didn't vote for ILLIT but I can see the appeal - that's also exactly a year on from a similarly high energy Asian pop song narrowly missing out in 2nd place (f5ve). Jim's prediction of horsegiirL progressing to a 2nd place finish was almost right magic and oops the DNQ for Tsatsamis' 'Recreational' now looks even more odd in retrospect now he's had a top 10 hit both before and after it, all in the span of just 9 contests, I wonder why that one did not connect in the same way (it is actually my favourite of the 3 ddd).

Was really rooting for East Rukahavian to get another big hit and I suppose 11th is good by their usual standards but a little gutted it couldn't quite hang on as another top 10! Likewise boo at Neliönoir just missing out on the top 20, electronic/post-punk bangers falling just short of milestones all over the shop with FSR Rontvia's very narrow DNQ as well. Happy to see a top 15 for Skall and top 20s for Aelandor and Scotland 2 though. Terra Avium and Danæviia feeling the most underrated this month for me, and although I didn't quite vote for either of them Fljótavík and Dobago do not deserve to be out so far behind the rest oops!

Thanks for the hosting Till, you did a great job as a first time host wave I've checked over the rest of the semi spreadsheets now and I don't see anything else that's obviously wrong in there so should be all good with Scotland 2's 12 pointer corrected barring anyone else pointing anything out x

And a quick YTD update as I've felt on the ball with updating my spreadsheets today x (who needs to go to bed etc.)

Hendinia remain with a small lead at the top, expanding from 13 points to 34 but now with a new runner-up as Bøtanikkä's win pushes them into the silver medal slot, solidly overtaking Fljótavík following a disappointing result for them this month although they at least collected enough points to pass the 1,000 point mark for the year alongside both of the top 2. Cor Lupus and Kluminican Republic hold their places to round out the top 5. A new contest peak for The Spodic Empire also sees them vault up 4 places to 6th in the YTD. Altyr Muunilinst and Neliönoir fall a place each as a result. Sovarasma climb 6 places to 9th after their top 5 hit, while Trifoski just about hang onto their top 10 spot down a place to 10th due to sneaking just ahead of Aeroche who fall 3 to #11.

My rise up the YTD is halted but at least I'm still in the blue zone just barely x

lest we forget, The Actual Republic of Bellamia's last ever result was to DNQ on a tiebreak in a similar scenario

crazy that a DNQ to a tiebreak is the tipping point to why Joseph still holds such a massive grudge against this contest
