  • Climax will have to be tomorrow now sorry guys! Thinking to do it between 22:00 and 23:00 tomorrow evening. x

  • I’ve also listened to Club Bizarre entries that were ordinary and Unknown Pleasures entries that were neither unknown nor pleasurable. 😅

  • The Eurovision style scoreboard. 2nd and 3rd and 10th and 11th swapped, @Bror up to 20th and @CowTzy no longer at the bottom. Oops at Basement Jaxx taking a tumble - I had noticed they got very consi

Me after seeing The Pipettes just about scrape the top half when I naively thought I was gonna be a shoe-in for top 5/10.

Oh wow, what a finish that was! Congratulations Rollo on your first Bop Idol win cheer especially after missing out with the last few votes in the second edition which I hosted. My 11 points might have made a difference, but it's a lovely song to finish runner up to - I first heard of Camera Obscura in 2024 and their song 'The Light Nights' made my top 100 for the year.

Well that was quite a bounce back to the podium spots following my reveal - thanks Scene, Dobbo and Rollo for the points at the end! In all honesty I didn't think I'd be contending this time, so 2nd is fantastic, and it completes my medal set in Bop Idol! Just 4th left for the top 6. In all contests it's my seventh 2nd (sounds like a Youssou N'Dour song), as many as I've had DNQs in BJSC, so more than enough to soften the blow of coming fairly close to a second win in all contests - thanks again Snow Patrol voters.

Thanks Julian for the great hosting, fabulous to see such a high turnout for a popular theme!

So my first choice from 2006 would have been Sao Paulo by Guillemots but I entered that to a previous Bop Idol. I also sent We're Here from the same album to BJSC. I sent Lights by Archive to Unknown Pleasures and someone else sent Dick Around by Sparks to the BJSC. With nothing else from my own music from that year that I thought was good enough, I decided to look for something new. I googled 'best songs from 2006' and found Lloyd, I'm Ready To Be Heartbroken high up on the first list that I looked at and loved it the first time I listened to it.

I had seen the name Camera Obscura on the album chart a few times and assumed it was the group who had a single called Destitution out in 1983 which got some airplay on Radio 1. I had taped it off the radio at the time.

I now know this is a different Camera Obscura. Even Spotify has put 'Destituition' in the same place as the second Camera Obscura.

Thanks to everyone who gave my entry points, especially CowTzy, Chez, Rabbit, Lee and gooddelta for the 18s.

And thanks to Julian for a fantastic job hosting.

This now makes up for Sao Paulo having that big lead in a previous edition but ending up in 2nd place.

Thank you @Julian_ for hosting this.

Also, when can we open up the discussions for the length of the ban / the punishment for @Chez Wombat making us sit through a near 13 minute song? kink

Well now Rollo has won.. we could have long songs as the next theme 🤭

Congrats Rollo. I didn't point it (likely would be one of my next in lines though). Did strike as the sort of song to do pretty well though.

Some great stuff in the top 5. Sneaky Sound System was a great discovery for me. Oops at Infernal losing out on a tie to top 10. Really lush track that and considering I never cared for 'From Paris To Berlin' much either.

18th is still respectable for me. Half way point which I was hoping for if maybe a few spots higher. Thanks for all the votes especially Wow for the 18 <3.

Glad Poets Of the Fall dodged bottom 5 area too.

Great hosting Julian. Smoothly ran as per usual!

Congrats @King Rollo on the win, always good to have a first time winner! I think I gave you 2 points, it all helps D

I can't say I'm not disappointed with my bottom half finish but in retrospect I definitely went a bit too pop with All Saints.

Thanks @Julian_, great job with the results!

You were just testing the waters for next year's instalment of The Pop Factor weren't you! 😄

Congratulations @King Rollo on the win!

Thank you @Julian_ as well for hosting, you did an exceptional job!

I was a little but disappointed with how I fared with Delta Goodrem as I thought she might’ve performed better thanks to her Eurovision exposure. I guess it comes down to the song and competition in the end anyway.

I have learnt now that rather than play it safe I should probably take a bit more of a risk next time.

Would be interesting to see what the results would have been if we stuck with the regular voting system considering how close it is at the top - songs with more niche appeal tend to do a bit better under the Eurovision voting system (learnt from me calculating this for BJSC every month, but also makes logical sense considering every individual vote is effectively ~5 extra points for free under the 18 point system so fewer votes but more higher placings preserves more of the points when converting).

I’ll have to work it out now that you’ve said that!

If you've got a spreadsheet you can quickly calculate it by just find and replacing (1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 to blank cells, 6 to 1, 7 to 2 etc. - although you need to specify that it's the full contents of the cell to be changed so it doesn't change 18 to 8 and whatnot x)

Congratulations Rollo! A great winner!

It’s one of four songs that I almost tried to send (The Knife, Islands and Junior Boys being the others) but I doubt I’d have got any of them as I confirmed very late.

I went with Toop Toop in the end after looking back on my list of #1s from 2006 and deciding that it had been unfairly forgotten about over the years. I’ve always thought it was a really fun track and an unexpected swerve for Cassius.

I'm sorry this one wasn't quite for you, but don't worry, I've sent a wide variety of entries and this one I sent to the retro contest should be more up your street x

Not me thinking All Saints would steal this with ease and actually me putting them top meant they ended up being just one place above me! cheeseblock

@Chez Wombat thanks, I am EXHAUSTED.

despite having the coveted last spot on the song list

Oh no, so if last spot is coveted that means my second to last is the worst position to finish in?! 😢🤣

Thanks for running this @Julian_ it was great fun, I’m sorry I couldn’t join in yesterday. Will have to look for more of these in here.

Now go answer your question in the Lounge so I can ask others some! 🤭
