All I was trying to do was remark about an artist’s success in the context of a recent discussion. There was no attempt at all to insult anyone with what I said and I’ll definitely be thinking twice before I enter any discussion about anything from now on.

I agree that my initial direct comment was uncalled for giving our past, which is why, on reflection, I apologised for it, and that apology still stands, sorry.

My more recent comment was simply because dandy* said that Jason was entering counter arguments at a tangent which was quite unfair really as he was actually making a valid and fair point (which clearly wasn't understood), I was simply saying that if that was to be highlighted then your initial comment should be too. Not having a go at all (again I do apologise if it comes across that way ❤️) just stating a fact.

The rest has really just been a fair and interesting discussion, you actually sparked a good debate. ☺️

I also want to say, I do agree with you Janet Jackson was a big artist for sure, I personally don't think anyone was saying she wasn't successful, just that they didn't think she was on the same level as certain other acts mentioned. That was my take on it (I may have read that wrong of course).

Ooh, I loved Janet Jackson.

Like her brother, she released so many singles from each album and loads of those were massive in the US - I think she had 5 or 6 #1s over there just in the 90s - and I think they all just got thrown out here as well with diminishing returns or varied success.

She wasn't Madonna. She wasn't Whitney. But she was Janet... Miss Jackson if you're nasty!! 😉

80s 7.635.200m

90s 3.301.100m

= 10.936.300 m

I’m pretty sure only Madonna is above him when you combine the 80s and 90s totals

Will Smith wasn’t on my radar for this either! It makes sense now he’s been revealed but I think it would have taken me quite a while to guess him

Good old OCC and not combining the discographies when its the same person 🙈

Although I have just learnt another novelty act had 13 top 40s in the 90s im guessing they missed the top 100 sales though as the highest only got to 9 (sorry random tidbit I thought they released something under their real names so wanted to see of the OCC was consistent like with Will )
