I'm surprised Olivia's team aren't popping out some physicals for Stupid Song or dropping additional versions and the price on iTunes. Sales are super low at the moment so she could easily nab the #1.

If it was going for number 1 in the States they probably would

I really don't get why the point of Sam/Rein Me In not being as big in the States as they are here is being brought up repeatedly

  • Jessie Where

Something which has NEVER been true

This literally isn't relevant, let it go. Also since when has the chart been a ranking of the biggest names in music? Being #1 doesn't mean you're bigger than Taylor Swift as an artist, it just means

Yeah they don't seem to care as much even though its far easier to get a number 1 here then it is there unless you are Ella or Taylor

Surely it's just the 3 biggest selling formats of any given week that count?

It’s 3 formats maximum, the only way around it is to ‘discontinue’ a format and apply for the replacement to be counted.

It's definitely not better than Once Upon A Time In The West but yeah it definitely deserves to be doing better than it is. They've been promoting the hell out of it so I'm surprised it isn't contending for the top 10!

Their success really nosedived after Once Upon A Time In The West, I remember the singles from Killer Sounds were supported by Radio 1, but they still only just scraped Top 10!

I see them in a similar vein to The Feeling / The Hoosiers / Scouting For Girls / The Pigeon Detectives (in some of their cases they never disbanded, and are sonically different to Hard-Fi), in that they never developed a core dedicated fanbase large enough to push their new albums to the upper reaches of the chart (regardless of quality), but they have 1 or 2 albums that people are very much fans of and that they can repeatedly do anniversary tours/rereleases for!

I guess when so many similar bands arrive at the same time, only a few will pick up those dedicated fans (as most people will only buy from their absolute faves these days). This probably points to Once Upon A Time not actually connecting as, if it did, Killer Sounds would probably have done decently in the first week at the very least - the majority clearly already saw them as a band that it wasn't worth pursuing new music from (and I think they'd be in the same boat whether they did or didn't split!). It's a shame, I always liked them and like the recent stuff they've put out too!

Actually none of the singles from Killers Sounds even made the top 50 (you're probably thinking of the singles from Once Upon A Time) but I agree with the rest of your post. They're very much a band of their time. Stars Of CCTV I think is a very well regarded album (and quite rightly so) but people definitely lost interest in them quickly after that. Having said that Once Upon A Time In The West for me is right up there with Stars Of CCTV, I still play both albums a lot. Killer Sounds was a definite step down quality wise, so coupled with the drop in interest it basically killed their career for a long time.

Olivia Dean, Olivia Rodrigo & Sam are all signed on Universal labels seems ‘Rein Me In’ is their priority atm in the UK to go for the record.

I actually was referring to the album! (I can definitely see how it looks like I was talking about the singles going Top 10 though, I worded that terribly 🤣)

Killer Sounds scraped the Top 10, despite Radio 1 support, because people had lost interest (as you mention, the singles made no impact, and I think alot of that was also down to a lack of interest) they just were never really gonna get that fanbase developed!

(actually, I think they were dumped by R1 during this era - a further sign their last album didn't really connect with many?)

Personally, Once Upon A Time is my favourite by them! Maybe the added polish compared to their first album felt inauthentic to many (I'm clutching here, the songs were brilliant so there must have been something which put fans off!)

I'm glad someone shares my love for that album, I don't know anyone else who does heart

It's definitely a bit more polished compared to the rawness of the first album but the songs are just as good! It should have strengthened their profile but it did the opposite, I'm really not sure what put fans off tbh. But as you say they're not a band with a big fanbase, which probably explains why the new album isn't doing a little better.

They can leave Bryan Adams’ and Al Martino’s records alone. It was bad enough when Drake nearly beat it in 2016 which most people on here complained about

Stupid Song is only number 3 in the US so hopefully, they do a tactic to get it to number 1 and hopefully pass it on over here

Records are made to be broken - can’t say Bryan Adams is a personal favourite or one I’ve heard for decades played anywhere and Al Martino spent 9 weeks at #1 so hate to break it to you they passed that weeks ago (although his was consecutive so don’t think they’ll be challenging that).

Frankie Laine I meant. His 18 non-consecutive weeks at number 1

Think it was meant to be Frankie Laine instead of Al Martino!

That’s the one. Wet Wet Wet might have beaten Bryan Adams’ record if they didn’t withdraw Love Is All Around. You’d think they’d wanna go for the record but they themselves got sick of being number 1

Both their long running #1 songs are dreary and dated they have better upbeat tracks that charted 'Rachel' by Al Martino and 'Rawhide' by Frankie Laine.

Does Blessings have a vinyl release or something?

Any particular reason the big leap for American Girls?

Sorry if I missed either of these answers elsewhere previously

Both benefiting from multiple songs going to ACR. Blessings got a reset a few weeks ago due to good weather so it's having another boost from that too, it seems, while American Girls is also riding high from Harry's tour.

To answer your question, "Blessings" got a limited RSD 2026 vinyl release, but I don't think this is the reason why it's getting benefitted on the Official Charts and it's basically what Joseph mentioned above, plus his UK shows.

I still haven't heard that album, but by the time it came around in 2011 it was 4 years later and they felt like ancient history by then.

I’m surprised Glass Animals and Wiley’s songs aren’t being streamed thanks to the heatwave

Heatwaves is in the Apple Music and Spotify charts
