After an double from Harry Kane to spare them from an shock defeat to DR Congo by scoring twice in the last 15 minutes.

England will be taking on Mexico at the Azteca Stadium, one that is memorable for England not necessary for the right reasons at it was 40 years ago where they exited to Argentina which gave us the 'Hand of God' and 'Goal of the Century'.

For Mexico they have an more comfortable path to the last 16 and their record at the Azteca is quite something, they've played 89 matches there, won 70, drew 17 and lost just two.

The game will be a late one for England fans is at 1am (BST Time) live on the BBC with commentary from Guy Mowbray and Alan Shearer (what joy).

Please use this thread for speculation, pre and post match chat on the England game.

Tuchel asking parents to let kids stay up. "Plenty of school. This is once every 4 years" he said.

3-2 England is my prediction but we got out in QF to Brazil.

I'm sure with every kid having a smartphone these days the ones that do want to watch it will find any way they can.

I can't justify staying up for this when I have work the next day, which is a shame as it does seem like it'll be a great match, England would likely win in any other setting, but with a home crowd at the altitude like this and with Mexico winning all their matches without conceding so far (albeit not really facing a top tier team yet), it'll be a harder fight. Wouldn't be surprised if it goes to penalties.

I'm in Liverpool this weekend for Magic Weekend and staying till Monday afternoon (God bless the 12pm check out of Premier Inn) so I will be finding somewhere to watch this.

The altitude, the atmosphere... everything will be against us and the environment will be hostile, Mexican fans are very passionate and make a lot of noise.

It's England, we can't seem to go a tournament without the drama of ET/Pens so I am fully expecting that outcome for this game.

I missed England's match against DR Congo yesterday but will tune in for this one. This is bound to be England's toughest test so far and they will have to put in a good performance to win, no way they can win by playing lethargic football.

You would hope that the BBC show an full replay of the match at 8am.

Thomas Tuchel asking parents to let their kids stay up to watch the match saying "There will be a big match in four days, and we need the support of everyone, especially the children."

How is that going to help England? the only people who can have an influence on the match will be the people inside the Azteca stadium. Literally all 58.6 million people in England could be watching this match on TV or whichever device they use and they will all be watching on helplessly at whatever unfolds on the pitch. It's only match going fans that can have an impact through the atmosphere that is created in the stadium.

It’ll be great for the fans at home but would be bad for the players because it’ll be midday and at its hottest in Mexico.

That was my first thought, but the forecast is for temperatures in the mid-20s.

Even if the 5am extension is not rescinded, I can't see many pubs going for it.

Many people will be in bed now since the game's at 7pm

It hasn’t definitely been confirmed. It’s only been in discussion although I want them to bring the match forward to 7pm

England and Mexico are locked in talks with Fifa about moving their World Cup last-16 tie to 19:00 BST on Sunday.

Fifa was set to make the change and confirm in a statement on Friday, but both teams' officials have been angered by the late proposed change.

The game was due to be played at the Azteca, Mexico City, at 01:00 BST on Monday (18:00 local time on Sunday).

Forecasts suggest there could be thunderstorms and heavy rain around that time, though Fifa is yet to provide any explanation for the proposed change.

Under tournament safety rules, any lightning strikes detected within eight miles of the stadium result in an automatic 30-minute delay to play.

Fifa regulations for World Cup 2026 state it has the right to "cancel, reschedule or relocate" matches "at its sole discretion".

I’d be happy with the change for selfish reasons as I’m working Monday morning and was gonna stay up anyway but work would have been a nightmare.
