England's normal approach to a match like this would be to fly to Mexico City late, play the match, and leave. That is because the effects of the high altitude really start to kick in around day three. However, FIFA insist that the teams have to train in the stadium the day before the match, meaning that England have had to travel to Mexico City earlier than they would have liked. It also means that they will be getting close to the time when the effects really become a problem.

It was less of a problem when Mexico were the only host country as all the teams had plenty of time to acclimatise. It is a much bigger problem this time. Host countries always have an advantage. That can't be helped, but this added advantage for Mexico is arguably blatantly unfair.

If this is true then why didn't they do it in America or Canada to make it fairer? Or is the altitude the same there too? (It all goes over my head a bit tbh)

I've got 20 July off. It's the first day of the school holiday I've had some fun telling students that they get the following day off if England win

  • I'll be in Greece so will be at 3AM for me D: On the plus side I'll be on holiday so no falling asleep at my desk later on.

  • I won’t be able to watch live as I’m working and it just ain’t worth it. I do however think il be able to catch the second half when I wake for work at 7am with the weather that’s planned 😂

Altitude is only in Mexico.

Game delayed by an hour at least. Reckon the way to do this now unless you're in the pub is for a sleep before hand!

I'm a dedicated World Cup viewer so I'm staying up tomorrow night too to cheer on Belgium in their match. I think that's the last early morning match for a while.
