Obviously there is stuff unreleased that we cant anticipate and viral hits but 2026 looks lean

Aha! I’m glad I’m not the only person who spotted that. I saw that on Facebook and made a comment. Ridiculous!

That article is yearning for yesteryear with mentions of TOTP, The Chart Show etc., - music focused TV has long gone.

The world has moved on, many chart followers still live in 1994 it seems.

The article makes some fair points and generally The Guardian is a reliable source but it definitely is undermined by that 60k error. I hope they correct that because it makes the numbers sound way more pitiful than reality. Readers will think 1 stream is equivalent to 1 download.

Well exactly, I feel like everyone is totally disregarding the whole article because of one error and because they want any excuse to act like the article is nonsense. In reality the chart rules are so convoluted and have such little relevance in culture anymore that it’s no surprise journalists can’t get their heads around the rules, we barely can!

Tate McRae is teasing a new album, first likely single out for the VMAs in late September.

Wild chart but Troye Sivan is also releasing Q4 as well (only teasing so far) and after his most successful era last time, I imagine there will be more interest to potentially go at least top ten.

I don’t think the artists matter as much anymore. Artists like Harry, Okivia, Ariana can release and yes they will get no1 First week as people listen to the song and they stick around as the songs pushed on a lot of playlists and start off on a high level but it’s the songs now that matter and they are the ones that stay stable and are the big hits. (Taylor is the only one that goes against this trend albeit maybe her songs are decent but we are moving into the range of opinion at that point).

As for the article it is a good article. I kind of looked at the 60k number as the general sales that’s needed to be no1 rather than literally 60k streams to be no1.
